(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Alligator Affection

Alligator Affection? Well...'affection' is a bit of a stretch.

While these fascinating creatures do ruin all chances for us to ever swim in fresh water,
and I'm certainly never going to befriend one (which I don't think is even possible),
I still don't think they should be confined to a pool surrounded by glass.
It seems almost deplorable even, to do so.
I may be getting soft in my old age
I'm fine with that... 🌞
and secretly, I've always been soft anyway

How Much House Can You Afford?

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Seven years ago, my sister-in-law whose only child is grown, downsized to a 2 bedroom, 1 bath home in South Florida. She purchased that home for $145,000. It is a concrete structure (important in Florida), with a nice kitchen, an extra room for entertaining, and a sizeable yard. She got a killer deal on it because the family who had lived there prior, had already moved on to a new home and didn’t want to keep up the payments on two places of residence.

The house had an offer on in when she first saw it. In fact, it had two offers, one that was under contract and one that was on a waiting list in case the first one fell through, so she was the third in line. Her realtor pretty much told her she wasn’t going to get it, but in her heart of hearts, she knew it was the home she wanted, and she kept checking on it. She looked around at some other houses, at her realtor's suggestion, and even considered one or two of them, but nothing made her heart sing like the one she knew she loved. Long story short, the people who had it under contract were unable to close, the second in line did not qualify and she got the house!! Hurray and that's the good news. Even better...

Wordless Wednesday: Fill 'er Up

Back when a tank of gas didn't cost more than groceries.

I'm not sure what year this is from...it's definitely before my time (and I can't say that a lot lately). 😄

It is appropriately located just outside of the Antique Car Museum in Put-in-Bay, Ohio

There are 7 children under the age of 9 in our family (and one on the way). FOUR of those are my grandchildren!! Seems like it was just yesterday that I was blogging on here about my kids who were for the most part, all still at home. Now they are (with the exception of my teen), all grown up with families of their own. With Easter fast approaching, I am starting to think of things I can do that the littles will enjoy. The Easter Letter Factory is the first thing that comes to mind!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Perry's Monument

We always called it Perry's Monument when I was a kid. The proper name is Perry's Victory & International Peace Memorial. It was established to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 and to celebrate the long-lasting peace among the United States, Canada and Britain that took place after the war ended. It is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry who led a fleet to victory during one of the most instrumental battles of the war.

At 352-feet, it is the world's largest Doric* column. It stands 47 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty in New York City. The upper deck platform is 12 ft. higher than the Stature of Liberty's Torch. For a nominal fee you can take an elevator ride to the top  and see a wonderful view of Lake Erie, the neighboring islands and mainland of Ohio, and even parts of Canada. The only monuments in the US that are taller are the Gateway Arch, San Jacinto Monument and Washington Monument. This memorial is located on Put-in-Bay Island in Ohio.

* Doric: architecture characterized by a sturdy fluted column and a thick square abacus resting on a rounded molding.

Those who visit do have to climb stairs to get to the elevator.
