October is National Children's Health Month

October is National Children's Health Month, and in our family that is important because we have a lot of littles running around. Keeping them healthy and safe is always paramount, so I am glad there is a month set aside each year to remind us that awareness should always be in the forefront of our minds when it comes to protecting our children.

Newverest Trek Scratcher Maps: Display Where You've Traveled

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

I have a thing for travel, and I have a thing for maps (and globes too!) so being able to combine the two, in a fun scratch-off map seemed like a great idea to me. I knew my son would enjoy scratching the places we'd been (some of you may remember he had a fill-in map last year when we took our road trip south to north and back again). He still has it, and intends to bring it along on our next road trip, but now we also have this large, full-sized map from Newverest to hang on a wall in our home. It reminds us daily of how wonderful it is to plan and take an adventure, and we look forward to seeing it change colors as we are able to visit more and more places. You can see my son has two maps in his hands...

TV Store Online Halloween Costume Giveaway

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

When it comes to a Halloween costume, people definitely have preferences. Some like to go all out, some like to be cute, others like to have matching outfits with their friends or partners, and others still, just want a minor tweak, like a pair of Super Hero Socks, or a character hoodie to help them celebrate the holiday. TV Store Online caters to all of the above, with costumes and costume items available that will appeal to the masses.

Personalize Your Pillow for a Good Night's Sleep

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

So, he's super comfortable catching some zzz's here, in no small part because he is sleeping on his new contour pillow from Dollop. I think he's all balled up like that because he fell asleep on top of his covers, instead of under them and he has a fan facing him and turned on full blast (even though the a/c is running). He does that often. Sometimes I cover him up, to no avail. He likes what he likes, and so be it. One thing he doesn't like is a pillow that doesn't feel nice to him. If it's too fluffy, too flat, not flat enough, etc., he's not a happy camper.

Moosh-Moosh is a Great Gift Choice for Children with Autism

Children are so different from one another and so are their needs. Even when choosing a gift. For those with loved ones on the autism spectrum, buying the right sensory toy is especially important.  Autism Live interactive webshow has just released their annual Holiday Toy Guide. The 2019 Top Sensory Toy/Gift is Moosh-Moosh plushies.

Download our guide and take it to the store,” recommended Autism Live host Shannon Penrod, a mom of a teen on the spectrum, during last year’s holiday guide webcast. The 2019 Autism Live Toy & Gift Guide will be featured at www.Autism-Live.com starting November 1.

A recommended autism toy can help a child build essential developmental skills as they play. They are safe, durable, and work well in the home, classroom, or in a therapy center. Sensory toys may help children with autism focus, calm down in stressful situations, or relax.

“This is huge,” emailed Sean Price, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer of Moosh-Moosh parent company MMG Brands to his staff. “We are the world’s softest plushie, adored by kids, tweens, teens and college co-eds. This 2019 Autism Live Top Sensory Toy/Gift Award fortifies all of the reasons why we offer the soft fabric characters that bring pleasure and comfort to so many.”

About 1 in 59 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control. ASD is about 4 times more common among boys than among girls. And it is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

Playmobil Take Along Sets and Carrying Cases are Perfect to Entertain on the Go!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Trips in the car (or even on a train, bus or plane) are far more fun for kids if they have something to occupy their time that is engaging and fun. Everyone knows when the kiddos who are traveling are happy, everyone is happy. Enter Playmobil. They make these great toy options to bring along, for when children start to complain about being bored (and if the trip is any length of time, they will say they're bored). The best thing about these items is they have handles that also lock them into place, so they are super easy to take on the go. This Take Along Western City is new to the Playmobil lineup, and it was a huge hit with my son.

Lion Country Safari is Florida's Only Drive Through Reserve

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

This week, every precaution has been taken to ensure the animals at Lion Country Safari are safe. The week we went, however, there wasn't a storm cloud in sight, at least not at first. :) A 600-acre piece of land in Loxahatchee, which is located just outside of West Palm Beach, Florida, this property is unique because a large portion of it is drive-through. That's right, you drive at your own slow speed, through the property, stopping to look at whatever animals tickle your fancy. There is plenty of space for the other cars to go around, so you never feel rushed. I took my youngest son and my oldest granddaughter. We had a wonderful time!

Let's Call a Truce: Back to School Germ Fighter

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Let's  talk about chemicals in products that don't need to be there. I'll admit, I still keep bleach on hand that is sometimes needed in the bathroom (we have one small bathroom that sometimes gets mold starting on the tiles and I like to catch and get rid of that quick), but for the most part (and I'm still trying to convince myself to get rid of the bleach), we have made the switch to cleaning products that are simple and natural. Truce is one such company that gets the job done well, with basic ingredients that work such as baking soda, vinegar, etc., and these products are sold at affordable prices.

Throw It Stick It and Hyper Strike from Zing Toys!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

This Zax Throw It Stick It looks like a hatchet, but instead of being heavy or dangerous, it is lightweight and fun, and totally designed for kids.  My son just celebrated his birthday, and while I thought this was going to be a fun 'side' gift to add to his present table, it ended up being a featured fun gift that he can't put down!

Back to School with Brooklyn Cloth

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

It's time for back-to-school and for us that means updating the wardrobe with items from Brooklyn Cloth. This is a company who makes comfortable clothes that are also trendy (things the boy likes!) and affordable (raising my hand high, that's something that makes me super happy). I also like that they last a long time. When you have a growing middle-schooler, finding clothes that grow a bit with him, matters a lot.

Schleich Makes Quality Toys Built to Last

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

When my granddaughter comes over, I often like to slip her a little gift to take home with her. She's 6-years-old, so at that age where she is so easy to make happy. Right now, we have some great memories from a trip we took to Lion Country Safari (which I wrote about here). The giraffes and lions were my grandbabe's favorite animals, so I thought getting her a couple of the high quality animal figures from Schleich Toys would be a roaring good idea.

Back to School with Discovery Prehistoric Slimygloop Dig

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Discovery Prehistoric SlimyGloop Dig is the perfect rainy day activity to do at home or in the classroom. Taking slime to the next step up, this kit is a wonderful way to help teach children about so many different things, depending on the angle you take while you are working with them to put this together. What child doesn't love getting down and dirty in a pile of slimy goop, only to discover something amazing like dinosaur bones, or in this case, 2 sets of dinosaur bones!

Top Students Top Parents by Kathleen Burns

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

There have been times where I've said it would be nice to curl up with a good book, but there is rarely ever time in my life anymore to do so. Enter Hurricane Dorian, and voila', I found the time. In addition to catching up on some things I needed to do, I also found a couple of hours to snuggle into a pillow on the couch, with my new book: Top Students Top Parents by Kathleen Burns. An approaching storm is not the best way to find some down time, truly, but I was still grateful for it.

4 Reasons to Avoid a DIY and Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaning

Disclosure: Please welcome a guest poster on the blog today.

Carpeting covers 51% of flooring needs across America, and most carpet is made in Georgia. So while it is an investment, it’s easily obtained and replaced. Nonetheless, keeping it looking fresh, new, and beautiful for as long as possible is the goal of most home and business owners. Store-bought or rented carpet cleaners are practically everywhere, so DIY cleaning is a common go-to option for many people. After all, why shell out the extra dough and trust strangers to enter your home if you can just clean your own carpet in a few hours or a day? However, quite often, those DIYers get a shocking wakeup call that expert professional carpet cleaning isn’t just a good idea, it’s often the only sensible one. But why should you consider hiring a professional carpet cleaner instead of doing it yourself?

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

My son is at the age where his friends want to play cards during their downtime, and I'm talking about games like Rummy or Canasta, which is a lot harder than the Crazy 8's or Go Fish that I am used to playing.
