Wordless Wednesday: London Phone Booth

We were excited to see the red telephone booths in London.
This was almost a decade ago now, I wonder if they still have them?
It'd be a pity to lose them, but would anyone really use them today?
We were only using it to get pictures even way back then.

The Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo (w/$10 Amazon Giveaway)

Disclosure: A free download of the book was provided to help facilitate an honest review. No other form of compensation took place and all opinions stated are genuine and my own.

The Book:
Have you ever read a book that you didn't want to end? A book that left you longing to know more about what happened to the characters once you reached its conclusion? That is how I felt after I read Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo, and a continuation of the journey is what The Holy Ghost Writer has offered to readers with The Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo. Reintroducing the riveting original (story) to the reader, as told through the voice of Sherlock Holmes, The Holy Ghost Writer (an author who at the moment remains a mystery) spins the tale of Edmond Dàntes as eloquently as ever, and then kicks it up a notch [or twenty] by continuing the story.

Offering an intimate look at a good number of additional years in the life of the beloved count, the tale is intricately woven with historical events and people throughout and leaves the reader spellbound, and at the end, again, longing to know more.

My favorite part regarding the expansion was that you learned to love the characters that Dàntes loved; you experienced the life lessons that he did right alongside him; and you got to explore some interesting takes on true-to-life events that have happened in the past (within the glamorous context of Dumas' expounded upon fiction).

The Contest:
There is currently an international contest going on regarding the identity of this author. The Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo is but one of several Monte Cristo sequels he/she has written, under the guise of Holy Ghost Writer. Each of the books offers clues to the identity of the author. Collect the clues and send them in an e-mail to along with your guess of who it is you think is authoring the books. The winner of the contest will receive a cash prize. Persons aware of the author's identity or who have worked with him/her are unable to participate in the contest.

You can purchase The Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo, or any of the other Holy Ghost Writer books on Amazon.

Information on the international contest to identify the author can be found here:

You can also follow The Holy Ghost Writer on Facebook and/or Twitter.

One lucky Mail4Rosey reader is going to get a $10 Amazon Code to download the book I read (or perhaps to use towards another by the author instead). Enter on Rafflecopter form below.

Local Library Dress-Up Event

Our local library hosted a costume/dress-up program for the kids last night. It was a 2-hr. long event with books being read in different rooms by very animated speakers (in costume, of course), a scavenger hunt, and various activities on every floor, in most of the rooms. There was also a cotton candy machine, and though the line was long, it was our first taste of it this summer, and well worth the wait. :)

Dressed up for the library event last night.
My son dressed up in a pirate costume and thoroughly enjoyed the craft tables and story rooms. Usually there are not a lot of people at our library, so I really didn't expect a big turn out. I was wrong, there were tons of people in attendance!! I guess a free activity night for the kiddos in the summer (in a safe environment) is always a good idea. :)

My daughter got into it a little bit too by painting around her eye. It turned out great (she even added a little glitter) but she didn't want me to post pictures... and so I shan't. ;)

The library is a great place to go for summer events and things to do. Our offers a reading program with prizes, movie days complete with popcorn and a drink, crafts, and a regularly scheduled story time. My 5-yr. old LOVES to go (even if there's nothing going on he wants to go), and I like to take him. :)

If you haven't utilized it as a source for keeping the kids entertained over Summer Break, I suggest giving it a whirl. Most events are free, and it's a great way to encourage summer reading.

Letter to the Weather

Dear Michigan Weather,

It was 56 degrees this morning, almost chilly. It was equally cool yesterday evening.  While we enjoy such temperatures in the Spring or Fall, please realize that we are supposed to be right in the middle of summer and we do not want cooler temperatures (especially if they are indicative of cold weather being right around the corner). Some of us (raising hand frantically here) actually like the weather warm.

Thank you,

Anyone else getting this unusually cool weather in the morning and evening?  It's got me wondering a little bit if summer is going to be over way too soon. I sure hope it isn't... I missed it far too long for it to come and go so quickly.

Teespring (an EXCELLENT service for fundraising and the like)!

Disclosure: This is a compensated post. All opinions stated however are my genuine and my own.

Creating custom apparel for events or fundraising can present many challenges, some of the most formidable of which are high prices, low quality, and the fallout associated with ordering too many or too little of the item (or pre-ordering the wrong sizes).

Teespring is an awesome service that is changing the way such things operate. Offering a service that allows you to design a tee shirt (with  no upfront costs) and then offer it for sale online allows participants to select only the size(s) and/or quantities they want or need. That means a more streamlined process for you, as only the exact number of shirts requested by buyers will be ordered, at the sizes that are needed. Adding to the allure, Teespring claims a high quality product and offers to deliver directly to the recipient, if desired.

Teespring is excellent for fundraising, campaigning, and the like. The process is extremely simple, being done entirely online. You upload your custom design or create one with the Teespring tools. You create a price, provide the backstory of a cause/explain the campaign, and you set your trackable campaign goals (viewable by anyone visiting your website). An URL will be created for you where people can purchase the shirt you designed. Of course you can add the URL to Twitter, Facebook, your Etsy shop, blog, or any other place you would like to advertise and/or sell.

I love the idea of this service for school fundraisers, campaigns, and issues of particular instance that might arise where fast funding is needed (medical instantly comes to mind). It eliminates the need for face-to-face selling, saves you a bundle of time, cuts costs considerably, and aids in tracking procedures. It also allows for the utmost in convenience for both you and those who will opt in to buy and/or otherwise participate. When it comes time to raise money at one of the kids' schools (and I'm sure the time will arise), I will be keeping Teespring in mind.

If you are interested in learning more about Teespring, you can visit their website here:

#WW: Baby Girl Rockin' the Up-Do!

She looks SOO much like her daddy did when he was her age (minus the little pony tail on top of her head ;) ).
Little sweet, awesome, cute grandbaby.

FIFA World Cup 2014

Each year in March, hubby and I pack up the kids and take a fabulous Spring Break. We save a little here and there all year long to be able to take the vacation that appeals to us most. Next year, however, we will not be taking a family trip because my husband will instead be going on a trip with his friends.

Teaming up with a group of fellas he went to college with, one of whom moved to Brazil for business and lived there a good number of years, 'the boys' will be going to Sao Paulo in 2014 to see the World Cup. This is no small thing. In fact, if Brazil wins it could be one of the biggest celebrations of all time.

Though he and his friends have already rented property for the stay, and he will have an experienced guide (his friend who lived there), my husband still has a lot of questions:

What vaccinations, if any, does he need?
Will he need a Visa? And if yes, how does he apply and within what time frame?
What are the cultural norms that he should understand?

And those are just the TIP of the questions-to-be-asked iceberg. To better help him prepare for his trip, he read FIFA World Cup 2014 - Your Complete Guide to Brazil's Largest Soccer Celebration Since 1950.

Written by a native South American, and full of interactive maps (that can be used in real-time with your electronic device of choice), pdf's, charts, conversion tables and the like, it is a must have if you are taking the trip. Penned in a no-nonsense and very informative manner that was both pragmatic and very helpful, the book helped him to understand so much more than he could have ever even thought of his own.

FIFA World Cup 2014 covered the basic information expected/required from a travel book/guide and then kicked things up a notch or ten by offering the insight only a person living in the area would be able to provide. There were tips on where to stay, what to do, and a great history/background offered on each of the cities (and info. on the stadiums too) that will be hosting the games. Then there were safety tips, debunked myths, and actual facts about what one might want to watch out for, just to be on the safe side when traveling there for a visit. The writer has a great love of the area that was transparent in the writing. With 6 million visitors a year to the areas being discussed, it is certain his enthusiasm for Brazil and all it has to offer is not singular.

This is the must-have book if you're traveling to the games, but it's a viable option for traveling to the area, even if you won't be watching them. We've traveled quite a bit over the years, and hubby always picks out a travel book to bring along that he has examined and determined will be helpful. He does a good job with his selection(s) and I trust his judgment. For this book, he gave a 5 out of 5 for it being a good read.

You can pick up a copy of the book on Amazon.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good/useful for my readers.

Look Who's Washing Mom's Car???

A water hose and a phone because of course you have to tell your friends how you're washing the car...why, I'm not entirely certain (but I do know it's a necessity).

There's a boy across the street my daughter likes. He's too old for her and doesn't pay her a bit of mind. Yesterday he saw her at the mall and gave her a big, 'You look different!!!' thing. *sigh*

Today she's outside trying to grab his attention, seeing if 'you look different' means, 'you look hot,' or whatever it is kids say these days that means the same thing. So since she was aimlessly hanging out in the front yard and blatantly looking like she was trying to grab his attention, eek, boys... I only like my own boys around my daughter, lol...I called her in and said, "Hey, since you're out there, you wanna wash my car?"  She jumped at the chance.

Knowing I was on to a good thing (I'm trying to write to pay bills today), I pressed my good fortune with, "Do you want to take your little brother with you (who would, of course love to help)?"

"I don't care."

Woo hoo! Double score! I'm so loving this teen thing... just so long as "the boy" keeps not noticing her.

The best part, I think she's somewhat forgotten the boy...she's too busy laughing with/squirting her brother (who is delighted to be out there playing with her and the water, by the way).  The worst part, if she's really forgotten about the boy, that's when he'll start to take notice.  I remember how these things work, and as much as things change, some of them stay exactly the same. ;)

Worth the Wait

This morning we left at 6:30 to go see the balloons. It didn't say cancelled online today, so we thought we were in luck.

You can see the sky in the background was dark and the clouds were low, so they sent a ball up to test the weather. It came back negative.

They decided instead, since a good number of people did show, to blow all of the balloons up and leave them tethered. It was fun to watch them inflate.

One of the balloons did go up, though I'm not sure why, even the MC sounded surprised when she announced that it was in the air (a rebel amongst us, perhaps???  Or maybe not, who knows. :) ).

It was great to get to see the balloons so up close and personal.

Sparty was there, representin', and he was looking good, as usual. ;)

There were quite a few balloons, and it would have been spectacular to see them all taking off, but this was different, and peaceful, and nice.

Hubby's off work today and was supposed to go with us, but when we tried to wake him up, it was clear he was no longer interested in our early morning adventure. Same scenario in the teen's room. So it ended up being me and little man. He loved every single thing about the balloons, but when he wanted to watch he sat way back here. I asked him why so far and he said he was scared of the fire (that keeps the balloons up). ;)

The balloons weren't up too long at all before they started taking them down again. It wasn't what we went to see, but it was just as good, in a different way, and I'm glad we stuck around for a bit.  We'll head back later today probably, to see the car show and the fair (if we can ever get the rest of the family out of bed). ;)  It's going to be hot today, but that's okay... it just means summer's here, and for that I say a big woohooo!
