Roar Like a Lion NEW BOOK Release (with giveaway)

Disclosure: I received a free product or a discount to purchase one. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

It's been awhile since I wrote about a good devotional so I'm here to talk about a really nice one I've found for children: Roar Like a Lion by Levi Lusko (with Tama Fortner) and illustrated by Catherine Pearson. We were fortunate enough to receive a copy prior to the release date, which is today, September 14th, so we've been using it for a little while now. It's been a huge blessing to our family, a way to encourage children to open up and talk about topics that might be heavy on their little minds and hearts, or a way to help them express happiness, and their internal joy (which children just naturally have an abundance of in their sweet little hearts).

We have had a lot going on in the past few weeks, the return to school was filled with uncertainty, the anniversary of 9/11 took place, and then all of the other little, normal things that go on day-to-day living. On the flip side, there were also good things to deal with, like the return to school, the tribute to 9/11 and other little, normal things that go on day-to-day. My repeat of each was intentional. Some of the things we experience have both positive and negatives that go along with them. School days bring with them the apprehension of uncertainty in terms of health scares (and we did have students and teachers being sent home with Covid-19). It also brought with it the joy of returning to see friends, be in a social environment with children their own age, and focus on getting back to a routine that feels 'normal.' Likewise, the 9/11 tributes had our kids questioning the threats to the world, for sure, but it also showed them how people come together in times of need, how we still remember those who died unjustly and how it is important to have a strong faith to turn to when things become rocky and unsettled (which they will, that's just life).

We also appreciate that the Roar Like a Lion devotional has small bites of information, that are easily digestible for our little ones to read. Small pieces of information that make it easier for the littles to grasp what is being said. I want my children and grandchildren to have a strong faith to draw upon on as a source of strength when they need it. From school bullies, to just trying to fit in, to understanding how faith works, this devotional has a little bit of everything that is important to our kids (and to us FOR our kids).

Chockfull of scripture-based insights, each of the 90 devotionals covers a topic that is universally important to teach and learn. It offers a great opportunity to sit and read together for a little bit each night, to bond as a family, and to grow our faith in the word, as well as to become closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This devotional also has little blurbs on the side bar of each page that offers fun facts or challenges to our children. Here is a copy of one, so you can see what I mean:

GET READY TO ROAR!

Make a list of things you've always wanted to try. Maybe it's simple things like joining the chess club, eating Thai food, or cooking your own meal. Maybe it's daring things like jumping off the high dive or rock-climbing. Or maybe it's spiritual things like leading a prayer or putting on a puppet show to teach younger kids about Jesus. Be brave and try something new this week!

The words in this devotional are written so children can easily understand them, and each devotional features a corresponding Bible verse. This helps children see that the words in the Bible are relatable to everything that we do in life. I like the messages, the sweet illustrations and the facts or calls to action on the side bars. I think this was very well written, and I am happy we have a copy in our home.

To recap, Roar Like a Lion is a wonderful devotional book for kids. With eye-catching art, fascinating stories and facts, Bible verses and prayers, and simple action steps, this 90-day devotional will help your kids approach both fun moments and tough times with their hearts set on God's faithfulness. It covers highly relevant topics such as:

  • Facing fears about school and friendships
  • Dealing with peer pressure and bullying
  • Handling new challenges, disappointments and grief
  • Having courage to try something new
  • Understanding how we fit into God's great story
