Looking After You in 2023

This is a collaborative post. Please welcome today's contributor.

2023 is but a week away which means many will be forming their new year resolutions. Most people like to take the time to reflect on their resolutions and decide what would be better then, but one thing you should be doing for yourself no matter the year is looking after yourself better.

Most people ponder how tired and exhausted the year has been before they move into a new year, but the holidays and the new year is the chance to get the renewal that you need. It's like turning a page in a notebook that is blank and fresh; You can't wait to draw on it because you know the pen is going to glide over the paper. Looking after you in 2023 is going to look different compared to others, so you need to ensure that whatever you do you are taking care of yourself first. So, here are some of the things that you can do to make sure your 2023 goes without a hitch.

Start by changing your mindset. Whether it's going online and shopping with Paisley Grace Boutique as a New Year's resolution rather than trolling the High Street, or you have decided to stop talking negatively to yourself, you need to change your mindset before you do anything else. How you think about yourself and how you consider yourself is important, and self care is never selfish. It is simply the best gift that you can possibly give yourself, because the best version of you is only going to come out when you remember who you are.

Take the time to meditate. Sometimes you just need the silence in your life to remember exactly who you are. Taking the time for silence is important because life becomes incredibly busy as soon as the new school terms begin after Christmas. There are plenty of things out there that are going to vie for your attention, so if you ensure that you are making time for some quiet, you're not going to find it too hard to send to yourself again. Making space for silence is so important, and it gives you time to truly reflect.

Be intentional with your effort. When you surround yourself with good people, it can actually be quite hard to keep up with your emotional reserve. Taking care of yourself can be very hard when the world around you chooses to only focus on the negative. You don't want to fall into this trap. Instead, ask yourself what practices you can get involved in that will intentionally help you to keep good focus? This is going to help you to ensure that you are always intentional with everything that you do.

Work on your health. It doesn't have to be a weight loss regime or joining a gym. Working on your health can be something as simple as learning how to sleep well, reading the books on your to-read list, or visiting that museum you've always wanted to see. When you do these things you will be able to maintain your vitality and remember who you are as an individual. Sleeping well, keeping up with your reading and making sure that your world is culturally enriched is all going to help you to be a much better, much stronger person.

  3. For me, this next year will be about finding peace in my every day life. 2022 was full of a lot of toxic opinions affecting the woman I am or want to be. Stepping back from friendships and family members who don't support and uplift, but bring negativity to my life will no longer be tolerated. It's a painful thing to have to do, but sometimes in order to grow, no matter how old you are, you have to let go of people and things that you once loved. Some may see it as being selfish, but I am ready to focus on self love for once.

    1. High five to creating a distance between yourself and toxicity. It's hard a hard pill to swallow when your inner circle is dragging you down. I think we all have to face this at some point or another and the decisions to be made are never easy. I have distanced myself in a few cases too, and I still care about the people but it's freeing to not have to carry around the negative that they bring every time we visit.
