Prepare For Your Next Road Trip The Right Way

Disclosure: This is a collaborative post. Please welcome today's contributor.

Are you thinking about going on a road trip this year? If so, then you need to make sure that you are approaching this the right way. A road trip is different from a typical vacation and will require some planning. You need to make sure that you don’t end up in a situation where you run into trouble on the road. This could completely ruin a vacation that you have been looking forward to for months. Here are some of the suggestions we recommend.

Choose The Perfect Vehicle

First, you need to make sure that you are choosing the perfect vehicle for your road trip. You have two options here. Either, you can use your car, or you can consider leasing a vehicle for your trip. The big benefit of leasing a vehicle is that you won’t have to worry about putting a large mileage on your car. However, you do have to think about insuring the vehicle. It’s important to make sure that you do arrange the full insurance. This is going to stop you from ending up with a heavy bill at the end of the road trip if you did get into any trouble on the road.

You might even decide to buy a vehicle specifically for multiple road trips that you are planning in the future. If that’s the case, then it could be worth investing in a used car. There are many benefits of buying a used car instead of opting for a new model. If you click here, then you’ll find out more about this choice and how it could benefit you in the long term. You just need to make sure that you are being careful when you buy a vehicle like this. It’s important to make sure that you don’t end up with a dud.

Complete All The Checks

Next, you should make sure that you are completing all the right checks. It is essential that you do this as it will make sure that you are completely safe on the road. The first important check is the tires. You need to make sure that these have the right tread and it’s important that they have the right air pressure too. If you don’t make this check, then this is always going to impact how easy the car is to handle and steer. We recommend that you think about doing this the day before a long car journey.

You should check the brakes of the vehicle too. Brakes that need replacing will typically squeak and squeal often intermittently. As such, it’s important to get them checked out if you notice a sign like this. All the liquid levels also need to be filled to the right point to ensure that the car isn’t going to end up at the side of the road.

Decide Where To Stay

You might think that you can decide where you are going to stay on the go. While this might sound exciting, it’s a recipe for ending up with nowhere to stay on a long trip. You need to think about whether you are going to stay in hotels, hostels, go camping or even get an RV. The options here will typically depend on your budget and it’s important to make sure that you do work out how much money you can spend on accommodation for your road trip. If you choose to camp, you’ll also need to make sure that you can fit all the equipment in the vehicle.

Plan A Schedule

When you are heading out on a long road trip, it’s important to make sure that you do put a plan in place. Without a plan, you are going to run into a few issues. For instance, there might not be a place free to stay where you are traveling to. This could be the case right now, due to the high level of demand as people start traveling again after the COVID-19 pandemic begins to subside.

A plan will also ensure that you know where you are going to stop on longer journeys. This helps reduce the chances of you running out of fuel or getting tired on the road. It might seem as though planning things like this out is going to take the fun out of a road trip. But it doesn’t have to. If you put the right plans in place, then you can avoid the speed bumps that could ultimately end up ruining your road trip completely. A plan will also ensure that you can keep the costs under control and ensure that you don’t overspend on a trip like this.

Entertainment Options

Finally, you need to think about entertainment options on your road trip. There are numerous examples worth exploring. However, we recommend that you think about a range of different entertainment choices if your kids are going to be involved in the road trip. For instance, you can plan a sing-along. You just need to make sure that you are choosing the right playlist and ideally one that isn’t going to drive you insane after a couple of playthroughs.

If you are taking the kids, it’s also worth packing in some technology too such as an iPad. You can get an iPad holder so that you can fit it to the back of the seat. This means that it will be easy for your kids to watch films or TV shows for the duration of the trip. If they’re watching TV in the back then they likely won’t be annoying you. Remember, if you have two kids, you need to think about their temperaments. If they’re not likely to share it’s best to set up two screens so that they can each watch what they want individually. You can also get headphones that fit like headbands.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key steps to ensure that you are preparing for your road trip the right way. By going through the right process here, you can make sure that you have a fantastic time on your car journey without some of the typical speed bumps.

  1. Planning is key to making the road trip a success and then it may not work out. I always had contingency plans. That helped when something went wrong. We had a big trip planned for last summer, but it never happened. This year we have no desire to go anywhere except out boat.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, my friend. ♥

  6. At one time, we loved planning road trips and getting there seemed to be part of the fun. These days, we prefer hopping on a plane, train, boat, etc.

  7. Jason and I have talked about going on a road trip again this fall. He was bummed he missed out on Louisiana, so we might take a trip there. However, I'd really love to see Virginia in the fall, so I'm leaning more towards that. We may stay home though. One of our boxers has become paralyzed in her hind quarters, so she needs extra round the clock attention and I really don't trust anyone other than Jason and I to see to her needs.
