I was in the thrift store, hoping to find a good elliptical and came across this little beauty. We didn't buy it, but we sure did admire it. The turntable was made of metal! I've honestly never seen a stereo quite like it. Cool, right?
I blurted it out right away, "Look at that old stereo!" but if I hadn't, no, he wouldn't have a clue. Way before his time. He's all about everything being digital. :)
That stereo is so awesome! I love old steroes like that. They have so much character to them. They're entertainment, conversation pieces, and antiques all rolled into one.
I wonder what the sound quality was like? I always remember my mom and grandmother's stereo systems having such great sound. Today you have to do everything through bluetooth and it's easy to get poor sound quality if you get a cheap speaker.
That's awesome that your grandfather had one. My grandma had a horizontal one. The top lifted to find the turntable. I'd never seen a vertical one though, so I was geeked.
One of my bloggy friends says it's a 78 record player and radio. I do remember the 78s, they were thicker than the 33 vinyl albums that came later. MY gran had some. :)
Hi there! I dropped by your place but comments were off. Happy to see so much good news going on over there, and it's nice to see ya! Thanks for the info on the radio/record player. :)
I remember quite a few music players, but this one was new to me. I always wanted a jukebox. I'm glad I didn't get one!! To big, too heavy, and way too hard to move around, but those were cool too. :)
Yes, it is surely a classic. I was thinking it would be great in a museum. I think it was the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame that had a lot of old radios in it, this would be great there!
What a cool find. I haven't been to a thrift store or yard sale yet this year (still leery of catching the virus). I do miss stumbling upon these vintages treasures though!
Yep, my parents and my grandparents had these back in the day.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, my friend. ♥
My grandma had a horizontal cabinet that lifted to have a record player under the top. :)
DeleteNow that is a really old record player. Did your son know what it was?

DeleteOh what fun.
ReplyDeleteWe still have a collection of vinyl records - but nothing so stylish to play them on.
I gave my records up a long time ago...and then vinyl became stylish again. Who knew? :)

ReplyDeleteWordless Wednesday is awesome.
DeleteI love the feeling of owning a Vintage Stereo! Sound retro for me!
ReplyDeleteRetro sound can be good or bad. I remember 8-track tapes skipping in the middle of the song, and records skipping. ;)
