The Last Week of my 30 Day Challenge

The video above is interesting, and it reiterates what I have been learning from"Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks--While Burning Fat Overnight" by Joel Marion. The video debunks some common myths we have heard for much of our adult lives. One of those is that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Is it? For those of us who often skip it, the good news is that it doesn't have to be.

“Always Eat After 7 pm is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriest—in the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. It’s all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods.”

This is my fourth post talking about the book (post 1, post 2, and post 3 found here). It has been interesting to try new concepts and recipes, and I have decided that rather than use it for 4 weeks, and stop, that this has just become something I will integrate permanently into my lifestyle (along with the walks I have been taking a few times a week with my son, to make sure we are outside and moving).

Why? Well, one thing is I appreciate that my sleep has been sound. I have to believe that is related to my new habits for eating because my sleeping patterns have been light for years. I've been one to get up at 3:30 a.m. for years, and while I relished that quiet time in the wee hours of the day, getting a truly restful sleep has felt amazing.

“A research paper published in Sports Medicine in 2014 showed that people who eat the majority of their carbs at dinner actually sleep better. Carb-induced, quality sleep decreases cortisol (a fat-storing hormone) and ramps up the production of your sleep hormones, serotonin and melatonin. Restorative sleep increases fat-burning hormones—the main one being growth hormone—overnight.”

Another reason is that my goal to lose a few pounds, while eating food I liked and not having arbitrary restrictions on my diet was absolutely shred early on in the time frame of four weeks that I set for my goal. Feeling energized in the day time, resting well at night, and shedding the few pounds that thought they could permanently camp on my my waistline, has made me a firm believer, and one who is happy to recommend the book:"Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks--While Burning Fat Overnight" by Joel Marion.
