The Protein Snack that Makes Sense

It started with a strange twist of fate.

Seventeen weeks with an injury (broken bone), trying to teach on my feet, pushing through the day while silently praying it would heal properly—even when I knew it wasn’t. How could it? I wasn't able to stay off of my feet. The final weeks of school are hectic and I was reassigned left and right to different places across our very big campus, for various types of duties related to testing (even when I requested not to be because I knew it was agitating my injury). When summer finally came and I had time to rest, I made myself a promise that I would do all I could to heal and recover as quickly as possible. That included a follow-up visit to a specialist, where I found out some things I'd have never known if I hadn't gotten the injury (silver lining, I suppose!).

Out of all of that, it became clear that some things had to change. One thing I knew I needed to do was clean up my diet. I'd fallen into the bad habit of snacks and soda, two things definitely not good for healing. I also wanted to up the ante on my nutrients, particularly focusing on calcium, things to help absorb calcium, protein, etc.

As a vegetarian, finding enough protein has always been a bit of a puzzle. I’ve tried powders that taste like cardboard, bars that are more sugar than substance, and snacks that claim to be healthy but are full of ingredients I can’t pronounce.

When I stumbled across Scott’s Protein Balls, I was intrigued and immediately pulled in by their story. This was not a flashy brand cooked up in a lab somewhere, but a family making something real, something born out of love and necessity. A husband, trying to support his wife after a breast cancer diagnosis, started experimenting in the kitchen until he came up with a snack that checked all the boxes: clean, plant-based, satisfying, and full of actual nutrition.

These little protein balls are the real deal. They’re not overly processed. They’re not sickly sweet. They don’t have that weird aftertaste I’ve come to expect from “healthy” snacks. They’re just good—in every way that matters.

They’ve become my go-to when I get a little sweet tooth or want something to snack on.  I enjoy all of the flavors (peanut butter cacao is my favorite) and they feel indulgent. As I've started to eliminate junk from my diet, I'm feeling more alert, less sluggish and a lot more motivated to put in the hard work to rehabilitate and heal. Scott's Protein Balls will play a part.

Though resting a lot during summer vacation has never been a goal, it is this year, and because I want to heal, I welcome it.

Cheers to a good summer, however you may be spending it.

  1. Now that school is out I'm sure you'll heal up nicely. Good for you.

Yay on the healthy protein snacks. Everyone needs protein. I checked them out. They are pricey, but worth it. I'm glad you know that snacks and sodas aren't a good thing. Gave them up long ago.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Big healing hugs. ♥
