Even though it’s summer, I can’t stop thinking about the new school year. That may seem premature, but quite honestly, it'll be here before you know it. My mind is already spinning with lesson plans, classroom layout and—and yes, this is very important, snacks. If you know me, you know I love to spoil my students. They work hard, (this school year was just magical with close to 200 absolutely wonderful students under my care and tutelage) and sometimes a surprise treat is exactly what they need to push through the day. Not to mention, they LOVE snacks.
But as much as I love a good snack stash, high school is full of allergy concerns—serious ones. I’ve had students with peanut allergies, dairy sensitivities, soy issues… the list goes on. I never want to be the reason a kid feels excluded or unsafe. So I’ve gotten really careful (and picky) about what makes it into my classroom snack bin.
That’s why I was so happy to discover Cooper Street snacks.
Cooper Street is a woman-owned, family-run brand making nut-free, dairy-free, and soy-free snacks—with no artificial junk in them. They’re made in nut-free facilities and use real, locally sourced fruits. For a teacher like me, that’s a big deal. I want to feel confident about the snacks I share. I want snacks the kids enjoy and that are filling them up with garbage.
This summer, I tried two of their flavors—Blueberry Lemon and Orange Cranberry 2-Part snacks (part cookie, part biscotti)—and I was genuinely impressed. The texture is just right: soft, cookie-like, not dry or flavorless like some biscotti-style snacks can be. And those little bits of dried fruit? Chef’s kiss. The flavor is bold and bright, not fake or sugary-sweet. Just really good.
I also tried their Banana Bread Granola Bakes. These delicious little treats have real bananas, semi-sweet chocolate, pumpkin, chia, and flax seeds, and rolled oats. These are tasty and filling enough to be a whole breakfast, perfect for my students in first period who are often running last minute.
Since I’m stocking up slowly over the break (because, let’s be honest, snacks on a teacher's budget add up way too fast), I’m keeping Cooper Street on my go-to list. I love knowing I can offer something that’s both safe and satisfying. There are plenty of flavors to choose from for both of the snack types they sell. Take a look and you're sure to find something you'd love to try as well.
So if you’re a teacher, parent, coach, or anyone who’s ever tried to juggle flavor and food allergies, OR you're just looking for great snacks that check all the boxes, check them out. I’ve already spotted them at a few retailers, and they’re expanding more in 2025; that is great news for snack lovers everywhere.
And if you’re like me and already thinking about back-to-school, just know: you’re not alone. I’ll be over here, planning and stocking on snacks for my incoming students, in equal measure. 🧡
