I was mildly interested when I heard about the new movie coming out called Route 60: The Biblical Highway. I do enjoy a good documentary, especially if travel is involved. When I watched the screening of it though, I was blown away. It was SO good that I watched it again, immediately. It is jam-packed full of information but presented in a way that is so compelling.
You have two extraordinary men running the show: David Friedman, former U.S. ambassador to Israel and Mike Pompeo who was once the director of the CIA. Then there are excerpts put in that show actual footage from famous events past and present, that took place along this famous route. In addition to that, a scripture is read in certain places that help bring the road and its history to life.
I'm telling you, when they read, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" in the context of this story and the events happening when Jesus said it, I was breathless. I've read that line in the Bible, or have heard it in sermons, many times over. But in this documentary, it just hits different. It's strikes a chord that leaves you ready to weep.
Take the time out to see Route 60. This movie is worth the time invested and then some.
Synopsis: Carving through the heart of the Promised Land is the biblical spine of Israel, sometimes referred to as the Path of the Patriarchs and officially designated as Route 60. A highway of deep historical significance while often the scene of unrest and violence, this 146-mile road of asphalt and concrete begins in Nazareth, Israel’s largest Arab city, and ends in Beersheba, one of Israel’s high-tech centers. Running north to south, Route 60 connects ancient Israel with modern Israel, Jews and Christians with Muslims, and Israelis with Palestinians.
This trek is far more than a two-lane highway; it is a historic, sacred link to the roots of Judaism and Christianity and the stories of the Old and New Testaments. Follow world-changing diplomats David Friedman and Mike Pompeo as they venture down this sacred road, treading the very ground Abraham, Jacob, King David, and Jesus once walked. Discover the history, witness the healing, and realize the hope along Route 60, the Biblical Highway.
