There are times when we just can't seem to get enough of mundane dinners, with the same routine of roasts, potatoes, and vegetables. Sure, they are tasty, but they become boring after a while. So, why not set that rack of spices in your cupboard to use, and start experimenting with different ideas that will add a little zing to your average dinner time? In this blog post, we're going to run through some simple and easy ways you can spice up your dinners.

Use Spices

If we look at the history of cooking, cultures all over the globe have been using spices to flavor their food for centuries. So, why not do the same? Experimenting with different spices would make a huge difference to the taste of your food — for the better. Some suggested spices that are commonly used are cumin, paprika, turmeric, red pepper, basil, and cinnamon. So why not be brave and try new things?

Try New Techniques

You could also try out new cooking techniques that will take your cooking to the next level. If you're used to roasting your vegetables, try grilling them. If you've always fried your meats, try baking them instead. To add a boost of flavor, you can also experiment with marinating your meats before you cook them too. Just be sure to let your creativity flow when you’re cooking — it will be a lot more fun that way.

Make Sauces and Dips

Don’t you think that food is always ways more exciting when it's dipped in something delicious? Think about it — a rich gravy on your mashed potatoes or a zingy vinaigrette with your salads makes it so much better. So why not see what's in your fridge that could be turned into dip or sauce? You could go for a homemade lime crema sauce or try tzatziki. It’s all about adding an extra element to all of your meals.

Get the Kids to Join In

If you have fussy eaters or lots of complaints at mealtimes, why not make it a fun experience by getting your children involved? A good way to do this is by giving them simple tasks such as setting the table or stirring the ingredients. After all, cooking is a great way to bond and makes everyone feel great. They could even add their own suggestions to make things more interesting. You could take frequent breaks to give them an opportunity to taste and adjust based on their own preferences — it’ll also mean you’re teaching them to cook young too.

Invent Your Own Recipes

And finally, never be afraid to create your own recipes! You don’t have to be a Michelin-starred chef to do this. Why not use ingredients that you have in your fridge or pantry and make a meal out of it? It’s always fun to try and whip different things up. And who knows — you may just end up making something that the whole family will love! Start by thinking about your favorite ingredients and then researching what spices and other ingredients could complement them. Do some experimenting and adjust your recipe along the way. This is what cooking is all about!
