Royalty Scents: The BEST Perfume Subscription Service

Royalty Scents has nailed all of the things we love in a subscription service.

One reason I love samples so much is the whole 'try before you' buy thing. When I was stuck at home during the pandemic I started watching videos on YouTube. I started with the makeup videos (my daughter profited from that because I started picking up the best of the best for her to make a really fantastic makeup gift box to give her for the holidays).

That transitioned into fragrance videos. I was swayed at first to buy a few scents that SO many people raved about, only to find I didn't really care for them. Lesson learned: try before you buy. Or at least that lesson was learned after a few blind buy tries.

High quality fragrances are not inexpensive, so purchasing samples for them just makes good financial sense. For a few dollars I get to see if I like them or not. Sometimes I get very lucky and end up finding a scent that I love, and I immediately purchase the bottle. Those bottles bring me joy because I already know they're fantastic, and not regret (because I spent money on something I don't really want in my collection).

Another reason I enjoy purchasing from Royalty Scents is that they have a lot of selections to choose from, both designer and niche. It's easy to find some of those fragrances people in my online fragrance groups, or on YouTube are trying.  I live in a small city, so there isn't a shopping district or mall to go to where the stores have the niche fragrances. Sometimes I travel to Palm Beach Gardens to perfume shop (they have great retail stores there) but it's not a short drive, and my life is overly occupied with work so it's challenging to get down there.

These are the fragrances in my latest order.

Can you guess which one is the fun, summer scent? LOL!

1. Moschino: Toy 2 Bubble Gum

🎜One of these things is not like the other...🎜

Sing it with me!! That's the song that instantly came to mind when I put together the picture above. I think it's a song from Sesame Street, which for me is going waaaaaay back. Funny what you remember, right?

Clearly though, one of these scents just looks playful and summery, and the other two have a more serious appearance (and scents). That's the beauty of Royalty Scents, you can mix and match to try what you like, and let's face it, we're not in the same mood every day. It's okay for our fragrances to reflect that... mine do.

The Moschino Toy 2 Bubble Gum is such a summer must-have if you like fun, flirty, playful scents. It smells just like those big Bubble Yum or Hubba Bubba rectangle pieces from our youth (I still pick up a pack every once in awhile).

It's lighthearted, lighty scented, and also a little bit floral (rose). I suppose that is too keep it from getting overly sweet on your skin, or keeping it grounded, if you will.

I run the gamut when it comes to fragrance preferences. Sweet gourmands and Orientals seem to be my most preferred selections, but I have found that I just pretty much like a sampling of everything. For the days I feel like wearing a sundress and heading out to have a bit of fun, or even the days I'm going to stay in and have some down time with one of the grandkids, this is the perfect summer fun-loving scent to own. I love every single thing about it, and am so happy to find that a full-sized bottle of it is SO very affordable!

Some might say this is a 'young' scent, but let me tell you, I wear what I like. And every time someone gets close to me when I'm wearing this, they tell me it smells so good. I couldn't agree more. A full-sized bottle of this has been ordered, and is on the way.

Top Notes: Candied Fruits, lemon and bitter orange. Middle Notes: Bubble Gum, Bulgarian Rose, Peach, Blueberry, Cinnamon, Peach Blossom and Ginger. Base Notes: Musk, Ambroxan and Cedar.

2. Tom Ford: White Suede

Tom Ford did a nice job with White Suede. This selection is wonderful for a woman or a man, and it would not surprise me one iota if I purchased a full bottle in the future and I only purchase full bottles these days of fragrances that I love. I've been collecting for a couple of years now and that means the bottles are adding up. I've done a couple of declutters (selling or trading with others) in the past, but I'd really just rather have fragrances I am fully committed to, sitting on my shelf (in a cool, dark spaces so heat and light doesn't ill affect them), so that those things aren't necessary.

I have some Tom Ford in my collection already, and I've purchased a couple for one of my grown sons. They are always high quality fragrances, smooth, and unique to other brands. They definitely are worth the cost if you like the scent. They last a long time and always seem to project well.

The White Suede does smell like soft, supple suede to me. I like it. It reminds me of my youth, I guess because I grew up in the era where suede jackets were popular (first the fringe and later the suede bomber jackets... I owned both). I also had the tall suede boots, lol. I loved all of the above.

The top notes here are Thyme and tea. Mid-notes: Lily-of-the-Valley, Saffron and Rose.  Base Notes: Suede, Musk, Sandalwood, Amber and Olibanum.

Honestly, these are not usually fragrance notes that I gravitate to, but in this particular fragrance, they just work for me. I can definitely smell the suede from start to finish. That's the most prominent note on me. I can also detect the tea and thyme (or something slightly green/earthy) on the top and the Saffron in the mid. Both the thyme and saffron (or whichever of the two I'm detecting from time to time) are soft, and very subtle, and they add to the fragrance. That surprises me because I don't usually like those two things in my scents. I do here though.  I smell a very slight bit of the rose, not much at all though, and I don't smell any of the Lily-of-the-Valley. The final dry-down is mostly suede, slightly woody and it has a touch of something sweet.

I think people are going to say this is a cold weather fragrance, but I like it and would wear it year-round. As noted above, I honestly just wear what I like, when the mood strikes. There are some fragrances I have that I wouldn't wear in the high heat, like a walk along the hot beach in the middle of a very sunny day, because they'd get too cloying, but this is not one of them. This is solid, a good purchase. I could own this and be happy.

3. Kilian: Single Malt

Honestly, I'm not much of a drinker at all. I can go years and years without having a drink at all. Every once in a blue moon though, a situation arises and I will have one. When I do, it's usually a shot or two of whiskey. This Single Malt starts off with a scent reminiscent to me, of a cork from an expensive drink (a cognac, maybe?). I can definitely smell the wheat note. As it starts to dry, that's when I smell a little bit of the plum (and I think that's backwards because I read the plum is a top note and the wheat is a mid-note), but that's how my nose catches it.

It's a pleasant scent to me, and though it's a unisex scent, and I can definitely see it working for both, I'd say it leans masculine, in a very non-traditional way, to me. After the initial spray of this though, I find that I keep putting my nose to it. It just keeps getting better and better with dry down.  It's high quality, like all Kilian fragrances are, and that is instantly evident from the moment you put it on. Everything about it smells expensive, and really, really nice.

For some reason, it reminds me of being in Europe.  More specifially, Paris. I don't know why though, because I didn't go anywhere that smelled like this in Paris. Nonetheless, anything that reminds me of vacation is okay in my book.

You can find the refill bottle still for sale on the Kilian website. I don't see an original bottle though, so that leads me to believe that if you try this one and like it, you'd better get the refill bottle fast because it's probably not going to be around for long.

And that leads me to this revelation: I hate when I try a fragrance and fall in love with it, only to find it's discontinued or about to be. I am, however, extremely grateful to have been able to try it. This is very unique, unlike anything in my collection. If I happen across a full-sized bottle, I can see myself making the purchase for that reason alone.

"The unique smell of a 20-year aged Single Malt at the opening is driven by a single perfect whiskey accord. The golden reflection of wheat absolut flirts with sweet yet sophisticated drunken plum at the heart. Wood-forward, the drydown wafts with a lingering from oak barrels, softened by vanilla and tolu balm. Intoxicatingly neat."

 ROYALTY SCENTS

So now let's talk about where I got them from... Royalty Scents is a subscription service. If you love perfume like I do, a subscription site is a wonderful thing. It will have you running to the mailbox each month like a child who is waiting on a gift to arrive.

How does it work?

1. Sign up for the subscription service you like. Plans start at $19.95 (this is a bargain rate, as some of the niche offerings they have are very expensive retail) and you get one fragrance in a free atomizer case to sample. If you sign up for two fragrances, you get a discount. It is easy to sign up and you can cancel at any time.

2. Create your scent calendar. You can add scents to you calendar up to 12 months in advance.

3. Enjoy your scent selections every single month. They are delivered in a travel sprayer, with the free bottle cases (I have three scents from them and they all came in different colored atomizer cases, which I love!) and have approximately 120 to 140 sprays.
