Johnson's Popcorn has been around since 1940. The store is famous at the Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk, where the red and white awning beckons visitors to come inside and smell the hot caramel being tossed over the giant kernels of popcorn. These kettles, where the hand mixing takes place, are worth a visit. Caramel is not the only variety that they serve. In fact, there are many others.
My favorite is the Johnsons' Cheddar Corn. This isn't your typical generic cheese, this is a rich, flavorful cheddar that leaves you asking for more. It's honestly downright addictive, and once you try it, no other brand quite lives up to it (which is a good thing!).
Today is Mother's Day, and one thing my son and I have been known to do is help feed those in need at a local shelter-type-of-place (we have donated, food, time, cooked meals, served meals, etc.). I always think of the people who might be going there on holidays, and today was no exception. Late in the afternoon, after visiting my daughter and her family (I got to keep her girls overnight on Saturday, woohoo!), we headed there just to drop off some dessert items. One of those was a big container of this Johnson's Cheddar Cheese Popcorn. I knew this would be well received. It's a salty, flavorful snack that's just right for ending a day of quality food and good conversation.

Here is my son walking up with a tub of the popcorn, but what else is in those bags?
We also had some Tidbits to drop off. Quite a few of them! These are perfect because they are packaged in a resealable pouch. They come in so many flavors. All are low-calorie. Some are safe for diabetics, others fit in with a Keto diet (and are labeled as such), etc. All of them are delicious.
We tried the chocolate merigues. You can see them in the bowl. These are melt-in-your-mouth goodness that just have the feel of summer to me. The perfect treat for us, and the perfect after-dinner or take-it-with-you-on-the-go snack for those still at the facility after the big meal (and there were quite a few).
Going to the center always helps me to really put things into perspective as far as my blessings go. I may not be exactly where I want to be, but I do know that we are very fortunate to have a safe place to live, food on our table, and family who loves us (and vice versa). So many have lost everything due to big reasons (medical comes to mind), or even one small change that set off a domino-effect in their lives. If you can help, in any way, I encourage you to do so. I think that people are hard-wired to feel fulfilled by helping others. When we serve in any capacity there, we intrinsically reap way more than we could possibly ever sow.

We kept a tub of popcorn and a couple of bags of the meringue cookies for us as well. The cheddar corn is perfect for an after school treat for the teen, and the meringue cookies are great to take to work. I'm sure everyone who passes my desk tomorrow is going to want to give them a try. There are 40 in each bag, so I am happy to share.
Keep these snacks in mind. With summer fast approaching, they are excellent treats to keep in the house.
Happy Mother's Day to the mamas! I hope you had a wonderful day!
I don't like flavoured popcorn so I will pass there. You got a lot of other treats though, and I am sure I would have found something to enjoy.ReplyDelete
