fl How To Create A Memorable Vacation For Your Family

Disclosure: this is a collaborative post. Please welcome today's contributor.

It is okay to take a vacation trip to unplug and recharge your batteries. Vacations offer an excellent time for families to catch up and spend some exciting time together. However, planning a near-perfect vacation may seem daunting even for a seasoned traveler. Although 40% of US families take at least one vacation each year, about 89% feel vacation planning is stressful. From defining your budget, choosing the right destination, to creating an activity list, here is how to create a memorable family vacation experience.

Decide your vacation destination

This may seem like an easy decision, yet that is not precisely the case. After saving up to take your family on vacation, deciding your destination can feel overwhelming, especially with social media throwing travel and vacation photos and videos in your face. Many families are caught in a fix to pick the perfect destination. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an ideal family vacation. Every destination can be perfect with the proper research and planning to select a location suitable for your family's needs. While you may want to consult a travel agent, there are travel apps that help you find a place by pressing a few buttons.

Define your trip budget

Cost can quickly build during a vacation and easily take the bite off the holiday. It is best to set your vacation budget like planning for a wedding reception. Defining your travel budget may seem like work and no fun, yet the effect on your trip can be very pleasing. Determine your entire trip cost and consider other areas such as accommodation, transport, food, and vacation souvenirs and memorabilia. Start with a checklist for your vacation essentials and cross out every item after measuring its cost requirements. You can likewise include a little buffer to take care of any last-minute changes.

Dine like the locals

It is tempting to think of the Subway and McDonalds as places to eat when traveling; however, finding a restaurant where local food is served can be one of the best family vacation decisions you would make. You and your family can learn more about other cultures of which food is an essential part. Whether you are traveling domestically or abroad, enrich your mind and body with cultural influences from the various parts of the country and world. For example, you can try a Philly cheesesteak on your to-do list whenever you’re in the area and create a fantastic family trip memory.

Enjoy your vacation

This is arguably the best tip out there. Vacation planning and traveling can be stressful, especially one that involves the entire family. Your accommodation may not be as comfortable as you thought, the kids may get grumpy, or your family may even get lost. However, it is essential to relax and embrace everything that comes with the vacation trip. While you may not remember every family vacation, the laughter, smells, and those not-so-great moments can leave a print on you and make your vacation worth remembering.

  1. I love these tips. I also like to just go in with realistic expectations so I don't feel let down. It won't be perfect and that's okay. We won't get along the entire vacation and that's okay too.

  3. Dine like the locals- YES! We have a rule when we travel. We cannot eat anywhere that we can find back at home. Experiencing different cuisines is a big part of the travel experience for us.
