Mental health corresponds to a state of well-being and balance between your thoughts, your emotions and your behavior. What is good mental health? It is simply the satisfaction of the mind and the psychological state. Mental health is often associated with a negative aspect and it is high time to take the restrictions off of the subject. It's true, you don't have to be in burnout or depression to start taking care of your mental health. We all go through this: low morale, period of demotivation, or stress due to work or studies. There are solutions to find a better mood and take care of yourself. Meditation, sport or nutrition, we give you all our tips to preserve your mental health and boost it! Simple things such as joining a gym, going on more day trips, or treating yourself to a favorite meal. What comes to mind for me is going to the Local Steakhouse; since they have huge salads for me and hearty steaks for the rest of my crew.

Get out in the air!

Walking or starting to run will improve your well-being. Small sessions are enough to disconnect from the sometimes stressful daily life. Sport is the best way to get out of home and take a deep breath. And little by little, you may be able to find your flow! You know that uplifting feeling when you're immersed in an activity and nothing can disturb you? When you are in your flow, your mental state is at its maximum concentration and satisfaction. It is all about clearing your mind and breathing in the fresh air.

Sport, the ally of morale

By practicing a sport, you will naturally secrete endorphins, the famous “happiness hormone”. Goodbye the accumulated stress of the day! After 30 minutes, your body will begin to feel the benefits of the sport. The benefits are multiple: reduced stress and fatigue, renewed energy or even a feeling of exhilaration. It is a good way to preserve and stimulate your mental health! Gentle sports such as walking or jogging can give you pleasure goals, and in this you regain confidence.

Sleep, a pillar of mental health

Sleeping well improves attention, behavior, memory and overall condition of your mental and physical health. It is therefore essential for your mental health to sleep at regular times and for an appropriate length of time. But with the stress of life, the accumulation of hours spent in front of the screens, finding sleep can be more and more difficult. Did you know that sport also brings you "good fatigue" and the quality of your sleep improves. These are the well-being hormones secreted during sports practice that will help and promote sleep. It is just one more reason to try these gentle sports!

Eating well does you a lot of good!

Several studies show it - nutrition is important to improve your mood. The effects of diet on your mental health can be remarkable. Your brain is constantly communicating with your gut and vice versa. Our intestines are also called “our second brain”, or “nicknamed the “seat of our emotions. ”It is therefore possible to optimize our morale by adopting a diet that facilitates the functioning of the brain and regulates our moods. More concretely, certain foods should be favored when we are not well. For example, foods rich in vitamins B9 and B12 because they have a role in the production of neurotransmitters that regulate our mood. In the morning make yourself a good squeezed orange juice with your breakfast and you can eat a handful of almonds and hazelnuts when you are feeling hungry.

Fill up on omega 3 fatty acids which are essential for the proper functioning of our brain and also for the regulation of our sleep. You will find it in fatty fish such as salmon, sardines or mackerel. And if you have a hard time with fish, try chia seeds which are seeds packed with omega 3 and fiber, perfect for intestinal transit. It keeps your digestion healthy and the acid to a minimum. The more you feed your brain with better thoughts and eat better food, the more your digestive problems will ease. You should always consider healthy foods if you want to feel better. It is just a simple rule of thumb!

Finally, consider eating foods rich in magnesium, a macronutrient that plays an important role in the transmission of nerve messages between the brain and the body. It is also good for the intestines and therefore regulates our stress level. Luckily for us, it's found in chocolate, as long as you choose one with a minimum of 70% cocoa.

  1. All of these things have to work together. My diet has been off the last few weeks and I can feel it in my body. I had Covid a few weeks ago and my body is still telling me it needs to sleep a little more. You have to listen to what your body is saying.
