fl 6 Ways to Stay Healthy when Traveling for Business Trips

Disclosure: This is a collaborative post. Please welcome today's contributor.

Business trips can be a great experience, you’re getting to go on a small journey for work in possibly an unfamiliar area. The job usually pays for everything such as the accommodation, transportation, and even the food. It can be very tempting to indulge in junk food, especially if you’re on business trips often. Traveling gives us this relaxed mindset, even if we are traveling for work. This relaxed mindset tends to make us gain weight from indulging in unhealthy food, plus there may be little to no time to work out either. Your diet and exercise routine doesn’t need to suffer just because you’re on a trip, in fact, these healthy habits from home truly can go anywhere. Here are some tips for having a healthy lifestyle while traveling for work.

Every step counts

If you’re too busy to work out during your work trip, you can still get some steps in. Try to aim for 10,000 steps a day if you can. During lunch, you can try to walk around, get up early to walk or workout, but try out smaller things such as taking the stairs instead of an elevator. Other ideas include skipping the cab ride and walking to your destination instead.

Don’t indulge

Something else you need to think about is the food you eat. While it’s very tempting to eat junk food, especially if the company is paying, just skip it. Instead, have healthier alternatives such as yogurt or fruit. These healthier foods will not only make you look better, but you’ll feel better too.  This includes savory food as well, if you’re having a meal with a client, opt for a salad rather than a burger.

Log your calories

There are plenty of free apps that you can use to count your calories. Counting your calories is one way to be more aware of what you eating as well as the portion sizes.

Exercise in your hotel

Many hotels have gyms, and if that’s the case you should take advantage of it. However, you can always just work out in your room too if that amenity isn’t available. There are plenty of exercises that you can do that do not require equipment such as squats, lunges, crunches, and pushups. These help build energy, muscle, all while burning those calories. This is a simple solution to staying active.

Go to sleep at a normal time

Try your best to avoid staying up late, while hotels make it tempting to stay up late, getting enough sleep will not only make your job performance so much better, it will make you feel physically better too. If you get enough sleep, that also means you’ll have the energy to take on the day and do activities such as exercise too.

Know what you’re eating

Be aware of what you’re eating. Just because you’re eating a salad doesn’t automatically make it healthy. Salads from hotels and restaurants are often smothered with meats, cheeses, dressings, and another high in fat calories. If possible, it may be best to avoid going out to eat if you can and instead visit the local grocery store. You can then make things such as real fruit smoothies and so much more.  Even for short business trips, this can make a massive difference.

  1. So important to do these things. The diet is the killer part of this. Eating out is filled with calories. I was always careful to order the most healthy meals.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. ♥

  2. I am super unhealthy when we travel, eating all of the cuisine we don't have here and running on limited sleep so I can see as much as I can. However, we walk A TON so I hope that balances it out a little LOL.

  5. Great tips. I travel a lot and it is easy to skip the regular routine, but then soon I don't feel as good and energized. For me it is important to keep exercising regularly and eating healthy food. Also, being careful of how much alcohol is consumed is very important. Many people want to meet for drink or have drinks after work and it can quickly add up to many drinks over the week.
