How to Fall in Love With Cooking All Over Again

Disclosure: This is a partnered post. Please welcome today's contributor.

It’s hard to truly love something if we feel like we don’t have a choice. You might like what you do for a living, but since it’s not really voluntary, there’ll be times when you wish you could be doing something else. The same principle can apply to cooking. Most people have a love/hate relationship with cooking, and in an age when we’ve had to cook more than usual (since restaurants have been closed), the pendulum is increasingly on the hate side of things. The good news is that it’s always possible to reignite your love of cooking! In this blog, we’ll take a look at a few tried and tested methods that’ll have you on the right path in no time.

Improve the Kitchen

You’ll find that it’s much more enjoyable to cook if you’re doing so in a space that looks and feels clean and pleasant. So if your current kitchen setup is a little underwhelming (for instance, it’s dirty or cramped or overly dark), look at making some improvements. Giving your kitchen a deep clean, organizing the space, and adding some atmospheric lighting will all make spending a few hours in the kitchen a much more appealing prospect.

Invest in Tools

Don’t forget about the tools that you’ll be using, either. This is something that many people overlook, since they believe that all tools are the same. However, this is not the case! There’s a big difference in experience between preparing ingredients with a top-quality knife and preparing ingredients with a budget knife. Even your pots and pans and other kitchen tools (such as your blender) can make a difference to the overall quality of the meal. Plus, if you need another excuse to upgrade, just remember that it’s much more fun to use new and shiny tools!

New Recipes

One of the reasons why people fall out of love with cooking is simply because they carry on making the same meals over and over.

While this is convenient, it’s not all that exciting; after a while, you’ll just be making your meals on autopilot. So to rediscover your

love of cooking, you’ll need to bring some new recipes to the table. It’s always good to step things up and branch out a little!

Could you look up a deviled crab recipe for instance? Or what about dishes from around the world? There’s plenty of awesome

dishes out there -- so don’t rely on your old favorites for every meal!

The Right Setup

Finally, take a look at the atmosphere when you’re cooking and the attitude you’re bringing to the process. If you go into the process thinking it’ll be boring and time-consuming, then that’s just what it’ll be. If you can bring the fun, then you’ll have a good time. It’s that simple! So what can you do to ensure that you’re pushing things in the right direction? Playing some music and making a beautiful table setting to enjoy the meal you cook will set you on the right path!

  1. I've found that hubby and I working together is fun. We do try new dishes too and that's most fun. We only cook dinner so cooking is not tiresome as it was for my growing up years. My mom fixed three big meals each day. On a wood stove for a very long time.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  2. Cooking and I sure never have and never will go hand in hand. Think the cat would have more like and like it more lol but yeah, indeed you can have the best job ever, the one you want, etc. but once you do it for a living, there will be days you don't want to do it. Job and cooking. Guess I'm double screwed lol

  4. Talking about improvement, I definitely could use better lighting in my kitchen. I love grabbing a new (to me) fruit or vegetable and trying to figure out a new recipe.

  9. Jason decided to step down from his management position earlier this year and is home by 2pm now every day. It's giving him a lot more free time to figure out what he might be interested in doing around the house and he's mentioned that he wants to try his hand at cooking several of our meals a week. He's only done small things, like grilling burgers or making omelettes in the 23 years we've lived together, so it will be interesting to see him actually make more complicated meals now.
