Carrera Slot Cars for the Win!

Sitting around the house tonight, fighting the urge to put up the Christmas Tree. We did that too early a couple of years ago and it kind of lost its magic and wonder by the time the holiday actually rolled around. I got a really cool tree last year for 90% off after the holidays were over. It spins so you can see all of the ornaments on the tree, and not just those on the front. I'm getting excited to pull it out of the box and get it set up. We discussed it though, and have decided to wait just a wee bit, or at least until it's a little closer to Thanksgiving. To squash my urge to decorate, I had to find something to do, so I pulled out some of the gifts I've gotten for the holidays and began wrapping them. Pretty early, I know, but pretty smart too because while I don't mind wrapping, I do hate doing it too close to Christmas Eve. When I wait too long, like I usually do, there are too many to do at once and that strips away some of the joy, making it a task instead of a privilege. You get what I'm saying, right? :)

I pulled this little beauty out and wrapped it in some Paw Patrol gift wrap for my niece. She's been crazy about this show and it's characters for a couple of years now. This year, she's old enough to have more complex toys than she has had in the past, and I have a hunch these slot cars are going to make her pretty dance-in-her-jammies happy, come Christmas morning. Carrera has always been popular but the 55-year-old slot car company sold sets like crazy when families started staying home during the pandemic. I was one of those people who got a set, this one with the cute little Paw Patrol characters.

Slot cars are a super easy way for families to get together and spend some quality time. You can get simpler sets like this one, or more complex ones that will be more challenging to build. Setting up the track is always part of the fun. "Learn how to master the hand controllers to operate the miniature cars, and then become daring enough to take the curves at top speed without losing the cars' grip on the track's guide-slots. Compete against one another for bragging rights," because, hey, why not? We are in a competitive family, so dropping the speed and control gauntlet makes for a very fun day (especially if I come out the winner, hahahahaha, I'm kidding...at least for the Paw Patrol set... ;) ).

There are a lot of models to choose from and build. I think this is a perfect gift idea, for the littles if you're buying a character set, for the older kids if you're going all out with loops, and even for some of the adults too!! Carrera is no joke. They take their love of slot cars/tracks very seriously and work hard to please the people who have a passion for their products. I think they're doing a great job. I also think my niece is going to be very happy with her Paw Patrol slots. With that in mind, the holidays are already off to a good start (and yes, I consider this time of year to be the start of the holidays). :)

  1. Hi Rosie - I'm glad you're waiting for your tree 'put you up' ... but wrapping presents now does make sense! That game sounds ideal for your niece and well done for getting one of those precious sets. Take care - Hilary

  2. Like Hot Wheels for us older folks, except better.
I think everyone will be putting up a tree early this year.

  3. The kiddos here would sure enjoy it. The cats and dogs would enjoy whacking them too. Win all around. You got a tree that goes around? That is neat. But yeah, wrapping early is good, tree up early, not so much.
