The wrapping paper is nice and thick, and it's also pretty to look at. You can choose from a selection of designs. I like the classic Happy Birthday print you see above.
The card says Happy Birthday on the front, with a balloon design.
My son will be 12 very shortly, so it is his last year as a tween. That's a big year to celebrate. I gave him this gift just a little bit early because it's something he can use on the beach, and we were vacationing at an oceanside resort.
The gift I selected for my son was the Metal Detector 6" Depths with LED Lights so he could discover lost treasure in the sand! This is fun at any age, but it's truly just perfect for a tween. He's at that age where he's a little too old for traditional birthday toys, but still young enough to enjoy toys, if that makes any sense at all. Having a toy that adds the ability to discover new treasures others have lost along the beach, holds a sense of appeal a child his age cannot resist. :)
The metal detector is easy to assemble.
It's really only a matter of screwing together the two pieces and inserting the batteries.
The only challenge we had was finding a way to get the little screws out so we could install the batteries. Like I said, we were on vacation, so there was no toolkit just sitting around. Fortunately for us, there was a kind maintenance man who came to our rescue.
Just so you have an idea of what this looks like close up, the handle is nice and chunky, perfect for children's hands, and it has finger grip grooves. The speaker holes allow you to hear when a hit under the surface has been made. There is an on/off switch.
The bottom piece pivots so you can lay it flat on the surface. When the little black cord you see is parallel to the ground it has the best reception.
It has a clip-on light so you can use it when the sun starts to set.
We tested it in the hotel corridor, and as you can see it works pretty well.
We took it out on the flat sands of Daytona Beach, FL. and at first we didn't get much of anything. One ping led to a chip bag that was lined with foil.
We then went to explore under the pier to see what we could find there. That too, turned out to be a no-go. We were just hoping for some good luck there because there is a restaurant on top of it, and a lot of people walk across get to it. Though we didn't find any treasure, it was still an awesome place to explore. You don't really see scenery like this too very often.
We came back out from under the pier and lo' and behold he got a ping. He was pretty excited to dig in the sand and find his silver treasure. Unfortunately the once pretty item was mangled and ruined, but it was still a treasure find, and it felt like a big victory. This was a great birthday gift idea.
Wicked Uncle sells gifts for children of all ages. I also selected a Hungry Pelican for my newest grandbabe.
Open the pelican's big squeaky bill to feed him mini sea creatures. The belly has a clear window so you can see the goodies you fed the pelican plush. This item is for children ages 9 months +.
Any time you are looking for a gift, head on over to Wicked Uncle where you can select high quality items that are sure to please. We are oh so happy with ours, and will definitely be using this online website again. You can learn more about them by visiting here. You can also follow on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter.
haha I can imagine the kiddos here would be afraid of the pelican. The metal detector would be fun. Never know what treasures you might find. I know there are a few people here that bury money in the back yard, might work. Great for the maintenance man to help with the screws too.
