Looking for dinner with flash? It doesn't get flashier than the Medieval Times in Orlando, Florida. Literally. The sparks fly, the cheers are loud, the food is good and the battle IS on!

The boys with their aunt doing a silly photo opp before the show
We did some goofing around before we went in to the actual show and meal, and got some photo opps with the 'knights' that were all over the castle.

The venue is spacious, with lots of time allotted for mingling and pre-party goings on before the actual dinner, including photographs with the King. The area shown in the photo above is filled to capacity with those eager to enter the dining area. Before that takes place though, the king will head to  the top balcony area, where he does a great job getting everyone into the battling spirit and mood.

Everything is 'suited up' accordingly, including this awesome painting on the wall that my camera accidentally took when I fell flat on my face running up these stairs, lolol. No injury but I did think my camera was toasted (it made a loud cracking sound when it hit those hard steps). Thankfully, it was and is still working, and I am none the worse for my momentary dunce moment. ;)

Our front row seats were phenomenal, and the storyline that ensued took us back to another place in time, where chivalry was alive, announcements were made with trumpets, and men fought while on horseback.

Each section was divided by color, and our color was blue. The man doing battle for each color would encourage their section of the crowd to cheer. It was a good excuse to let loose and hoot and holler, and that's exactly what everyone was doing, us included. :)

In the photo above, you can see what the floor looked like from our seats. In the background you can see how the different sectioned colors looked like. The gentleman on the floor is getting the crowd riled up to make some noise.

The show includes competitive games on the floor, such as jousting and javelin throwing, and it has a complete storyline.

There were times throughout the tournament, besides the cheering, where characters were interactive with the audience.

So what's the food like? Well, before the show starts patrons are treated to a lovely tomato soup (so good!), and then throughout the tournament, items for the plate are brought in one-by-one. The vegetarian option for me was a kettle of beans and veggies. It was served in an authentic kettle and the only option that gave you an eating utensil.

Everyone else in our party ate their chicken, potato and corn sans eating utensils, from heavy iron plates. Beverages were served as was coffee and dessert at the end.

Patrons are given a banner flag and specifically colored towel to wave, to help represent their team when they were on the floor. We had the 'blue team,'  with the fighter who ended up being the actual victor for the night (woot!). The winners change with each show, so as to not be predictable. Everyone is also given a Medieval Times cardboard crown to wear throughout the show, and take home as the perfect keepsake.

It was the fighting though that was spectacular. Real wood splinters, sparks from metal hitting metal, and horses running and jumping through the arena made for quite the dining and show experience.

The fighting is so up close and personal at times that a permanent net is up to protect those who are sitting front and center. Those in the audience cannot help but gasp when the fighting is at its most intense.

The experience is one to remember, and left me with no wonder as to why there were so many birthday and special occasion announcements given at one point in the show. It really would be the perfect place to help one celebrate.

There are 9 Medieval Times' located around the US and Canada (one in Toronto).  Orlando, Florida though, is the only one to have a Medieval Village as well, to help enhance the experience. After the show we took a walk through the various buildings to see what they had in store.

The look and feel of those rooms made it seem as if you had truly stepped into a different era. There were so many things from those times to show how they lived, that it became an instant history experience as well.

Many of the items on display also left you with a genuine appreciation for how easy we have it today, especially when it comes to chores and everyday living.

There was a kind woman in the kitchen to bid you adieu and kindly send you on your way, but otherwise the tours of those rooms were self-guided walk-throughs. It was definitely worth it to take the extra time out and go visit the village.

The Medieval Times Dinner, Tournament and Village walk were a highlight of our most recent Orlando trip. I highly recommend a visit to most anyone, but especially those looking for a unique way to spend time together as a family.  You can learn more by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.
