Protecting Their Eyes in a Stylish Fun Way: Real Kids Shades

Summer is definitely in full swing, and one thing you want to make sure you do is protect your children's eyes when they're outside. Real Kids Shades always has the best sunglasses for kids. They do look stylish but they also have a lot of features parents can appreciate.

I LOVED this pair of Bolt Youth shades and it was for many reasons, but mostly it was because of the light, flexible sides. They were perfect for days spent outside, because they didn't wear you down. In fact, these were so light that you couldn't even feel them on your face. We opted for the lime/black. There are other color options available.

My son liked them so much, he wore them in the pool. Silly boy. Thankfully these frames are durable and help up just fine. I did have him rinse the chlorine off though, when he got out, just in case. ;) The funny thing is, he wasn't the only kid in the pool with shades, lol!!

All of the Real Kids Shades come with a plastic carrying pouch that has a clip on it, so you can hang them on the stroller (they have baby sizes too), your purse, a belt loop, etc., when they're not in use.

We made the Bolt as an alternative to banded sunglasses. These sunglasses have classic temples and fashion-forward, two-tone coloring. The frames are super flexible so they can survive all the twists and turns of kid life without breaking. P2 technology lenses provide both polarized and polycarbonate lenses.

The second pair of Real Kids Shades we received, the Storm Young Adult (you can get them in a smaller size too, and you can opt to have the polarized version), were cool because they had a techie vibe to them. Maybe I felt that way because they were silver (there are other colors available too), or because of the cool wave work design on the arms of the glasses, or perhaps it was a combination of the two.

Real Kids sent us a removeable retainer for the shades and my son used them when we were at Sea World. You're in and out of attractions when you're there, some of them dark, so though you definitely needs shades in the sun, you don't need them all of the time. The strap helped us keep track of them when we were inside buildings or attractions with no sun. You can also use the retainer to cover the shades when they are not in use (nice, right?? especially for super busy people, or when you are just in a big hurry).

Here's a better view of the strap. You can see it's nice and thick, but i tis made of cloth so it isn't a bit heavy.

The shading's off a bit in this picture, and I'm no whiz with photoshop (never tried it), but you can see how they looked on him. Perfect fit and cute as can be.

Rubber-tipped temple pieces and wrap-around metallic frames make these shades perfect for any activity. Storm is also available with P2 lens technology, providing both polarized and polycarbonate lenses.

We were really pleased with these sunnies. Both pairs, in fact. For the record, my son and I did each love both, but we did also each have a favorite. I was instantly in love with the first pair (Bolt) because of those non-breakable flex frames (nice!!). My son's favorite were the second pair (Storm) because of the cool construction design on the sides.

There are more where these came from too! In fact, there are all kinds of designs, in all kinds of colors, for kids of all sizes!

  5. I think the most important features of not just kids, but adults as well, are light weight & UVA & UVB protection. Good to know this has both.

  8. It looks really good and the polarized feature is important for protection. The frame looks durable. Does it scratch easily though? Usually polarized lenses scratch easily.

  9. That's great that they are non-breakable. I don't know how many pairs of shades I bought my daughter, only for them to end up in pieces!

  10. He looks great with those on!

I got a pair of their shades to review, but I let Emerson review them. I figured with the band on the back he needs them the most. They worked really well for him.

  13. The kids' eyes are often neglected because of their young age, but they need more protection than adults because of their vulnerability. If this is able to protect their eyes, then it's a good brand.

  17. I personally do not buy shades because I have glasses. I had my lenses coated with color that appears when I am out in the sun. In that case I do not have to bring another pair of shades anymore when I am outdoors.
