Standing in front of the Musée d'Orsay |
This is where I should be today, well not today since the museum is closed on Mondays, but you know what I mean. :) Driving home from the kid-run this morning, the feeling to travel enveloped me. It does that from time-to-time, I'm used to it. I get these overwhelming urges to just go-go-go. I suspect I got it from my father. He passed when my mom was expecting me, but every once in awhile I hear about his spontaneity, or willingness to just go-go-go, and I'll think, 'ah, that must be where I got it from.' No one in my childhood family likes to travel like I do, most of them don't even like to fly. ;)
Thankfully, my kids like to travel and they enjoy the places we go. Me? I'm busy saving for the next trip as soon as the first one is over. Why? Because I love it so very much.
Some of our friends and family don't 'get' the travel thing, they can't understand why we take our trips. I'm always surprised at their disdain for international travel, or their lack of support that we want to go. For me, it's the only one thing I'd change in life. I'd have started traveling much earlier, had I known how much it would mean to me. There are so many places to go, so many things to see, learn, experience... and today I wish I was in Paris. I was dreaming of it on that drive home this morning. I could feel it, see the Seine in my mind...and so I came home and pulled out the photo album. And there it is...and the pictures help. A little. I'm still dreaming of our next trip though, and saving. :)
I really really wanna do a trip abroad someday - it's the #1 thing on my bucket list :)
ReplyDeleteThen it'll be one of the first things you get to cross off of your list!! I look forward to hearing about your travels on your blog someday! :)
Deletei think it is AWESOME how often you travel and all you show your children, rosey! keep doing what you're doing! wonderful photo of you! i hope this year (and many more) bring you to more and more adventures together.
ReplyDeletethank you for always leaving such sweet words on my blog! you make me smile!
i hope your week is off to a great start! piper and i send our love xoxox
maria
Thank you for your good adventure wishes, I hope we get lots of them too, I just love to go!!
DeleteYour blog's awesome and I always love coming over there. You make me smile too, and you've got the cutest baby evaaaaaaaaaaaah!! You and Piper take hugs from me, I'm sending 'em over. :)
That same urge, yes I get it. So strong! And I think it makes me feel unattached like I'm not going to stay in one place for too long (ie. purchasing a home is hard)
ReplyDeleteI have always felt that way and even as a child, it seemed I lived in a new place every few years. I liked the new, the travel, the excited nervousness, the unknown, the learning and that other feeling that is hard to name. I love it all and wish, wish that I could travel more often.
Enjoy it dahlin'
Some of us are born to adventures!
The love of travel, woot!! Well we've got three big things in common (at least!). :)
DeleteI think you're right, I was traveling when I was young too, just not out of the country. We didn't start that until we were older. I cannot even count the places I want to go, some of which are too dangerous to even consider now...and I don't, but I can still daydream. :)
I would love to go to Paris again! Have only been one other time, and it is so very beautiful! I love all your photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Maria. And thanks for your visit. :)
DeleteI have never been to Europe, but Paris and London are at the top of my list. My sister, who is getting married next month, is going to Spain and Portugal for her honeymoon and I bet it's beautiful over there at this time of the year.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty great honeymoon. :)
DeleteI saw your picture and you made me smile! If I had the income I would be traveling with you in a heartbeat! in fact, God willing perhaps one day I can take you to my homeland! You will love it there! Besides you will be saving in hotels since you be staying with me...we just have to figure out what to do with our respective hubs..LOL....oh you didn't know...it was a girls gone wild kind of trip!!!! JK! Hugs
ReplyDeleteHubby's taking a 'boys trip' to Brazil this summer, no reason at all we shouldn't be able to take a girls trip to Panama. :)
DeleteOf course, I'd have to bring the kids, which I don't mind, but it doesn't seem fair, does it? ;)
Someday I will get to travel abroad, but until that day will totally live through your trips Rosey!! :)
ReplyDeleteAfter you get in your house, the world's wide open. :)
DeleteI wonder if I'd miss home if I got to travel as much as I wanted. I do think it's a good thing I don't ever win the lottery. ;)
That is awesome that you love to save up and travel. We have currently have a dilemma where that is concerned - Grant would rather save up for a trip out west and I would rather take that money and use it for home improvements. While I like a good adventure, I also would like to improve things around the house. I am hoping we can reach a happy medium. :)
ReplyDeleteWe could use siding to deter the woodpecker that won't leave (third year running) but I'd rather travel somewhere. ;)
DeleteI love your system of paying for trips. That way you never take a trip you cannot afford AND you are always saving for the next one. Your kids will appreciate being well-traveled one day!!!
ReplyDeleteHubby's anti-charge (he's smarter than me), so it's save long beforehand or we don't go. I choose 'save.' :)
DeleteSo jealous!!! I want to visit there so bad.
ReplyDeleteMilitary commitment makes it challenging to visit out of the US, I know. Eh, it makes it hard to travel in the US if you're wanting to leave the state. ;)
DeleteNice post..when I was younger my family drove through Paris from London to Spain Costa Brava always remember the traffic and how fast everyone drove heheh" sadly we didn't stop off anywhere there.
ReplyDeletehave a tanfastic week Rosey and don't do anything I would ;-)
You're fortunate to live in a prime spot (for living and travel!). :)
DeleteI too love to travel, but we have an old dog and we'll stay with her. We promised to give her the best of care and we've always done that. When she goes to the bridge to wait for our arrival we'll travel. I can so relate to the excitement of traveling.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day and week ahead. :)
Hubby's nixed pets and out of the blue said we could discuss a kitten for our son's last birthday (this month). We weighed the pros and cons and don't want to put him/her in a kennel during the times we travel, and we don't have anyone we trust to watch him/her so we put off the decision for a bit.
DeleteI love travel. Just love it! Though I haven't been abroad yet, the hubby and I have plans to do a lot of out of country travel once the kids move out. Until then, it's a lot of family trips here in the states.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a popular national park, 84 million acres of land designated and I've never been to one. I'd like to see Yosemite, Redwood, Yellowstone and/or Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I think the kids would like any of the above too.
DeleteI haven't done it a whole lot of vacation traveling but I like going someplace I've never been. Going to Tennessee this summer for me was "the best vacation ever" as Christopher would say. I didn't grow up having a real vacation persay because we always went to see family and then just went from one house to another. That was fun too but also all we could afford to do. It's been the same way with us as a family with both our families living in different states but the last couple years we've started going somewhere different and it has been worth it!
ReplyDeleteI imagine living in Japan for a bit, you've got some pretty great photo albums to thumb through yourself. :)
DeleteMy husband loves TN., says it's built for writers. ;)
I totally get the travel thing, I'm just glad I got it out of the way before I had kids. I worked for Continental Airlines so my whole family flew for free EVERYWHERE. It was awesome. I did go to Ireland last year and we're taking a family trip to South Korea next year because the boys love tae kwon do but I generally don't like to travel with the kids.
ReplyDeleteWe went to Ireland this year. :) Our first time there, and I liked the people. Everyone we came across was really nice.
DeleteWorking for Continental probably had some really great perks. :)
I want to go to Paris too! But it is not going to be soon because kids are too young to reminisce it...Hopefully in the future when they're 16 & 18.
ReplyDeleteBut before I got married since I used to work in a multi-national company back in the Philippines. I was able to travel a little bit of Asia like, Singapore, Malaysia(Kuala Lumpur), Hongkong & Macau. I like the shopping galore of Singapore & the cultural richness of Hongkong. Different places gives me different experience♥
i would travel even more to see the world if i have all the money right now! let my family see what's out there!
Hong Kong is on our list of 'soons.' I'd love to go, and I heard they improved the runway. It was supposed to be one of the scariest landings. I'm all for improvement there. ;)
DeleteDo you ever blog about your travels? I'd love to read about them.
Love these photos! We went to Mexico on our honeymoon and it was amazing, but I've never been anywhere else outside the US. I'd looooove to visit Paris someday. And the Greek Islands. And Tuscany....the list goes on and on! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who dives Cozumel every once in awhile, and she loves it there.
DeleteI'd like to visit Greece and Tuscany too (though the driving on the hairpins in the latter might make me nervous just a little/LOT bit). :)
I think it would be grand to see faraway places, but I'm a big chicken. You won't catch me on an airplane or cruise ship. So, if I want to experience the world then I'll have to do it through your eyes, my friend. lol When is your next trip? lol I think it's wonderful that you & your family enjoy it a lot and wish for you many more fun travels ahead. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteMy mom won't even drive a car. She doesn't understand at all why I like to travel. :)
DeleteWe're thinking Copenhagen for our next trip, OR we'll be skipping the next one because hubby has a trip so close after the time we usually go. It's up to hubs. ;)
I would love to go to Paris. It's so cool that you get to take trips like that! It's not in our budget right now, but maybe someday it will be possible for us. Before we had kids, my husband and I did get to travel to some neat places, and I do miss it!
ReplyDeleteI like traveling with the kids, but it is more expensive, esp. when hotel prices are per person, per night instead of priced by group.
DeleteI'd like to go to Paris too, today. :) Well, if there wasn't school...and work... and soccer. ;)
Good for you! If it's something you enjoy, I say keep on traveling as long as you can. Like you say, there's sooooo many amazing things to see in this world. Not sure if we'll ever do any international travel. My hubby has no itch for it, so for now, I content myself with our more localized adventures.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind growing old, it doesn't scare me a bit, but I do worry there will come a time I can't travel because of age. Silly to think about it, but I sometimes do. :)
DeleteTraveling is so much fun, but I have not been able to do it for years now. It is fun to go to a different City and see all the sites. I would love to go to London and Paris. It would be lots of fun. I can understand why you would love to get away to somewhere new! It is exciting!
ReplyDeleteI would really love to see Angkor Wat in Cambodia but the youngest is too young to go. Hopefully we'll get around to it before we get too old to go. :)
DeleteYou deserve to go then since it's so meaningful to you! I hope you take many, many, MANY more trips throughout the years!
ReplyDeleteI remember from one of your posts that you got to go to Paris as a teen. My French class went but my mom didn't pay for me to go, maybe that's when the longing for travel all started (?) because I really wanted to go on that trip. ;)
Delete(Paris, France review) Looks like a wonderful trip, but you forgot to take something with you? ME! Hope it was awesome.
ReplyDeleteLOL, it was a good trip. I could go there many times and be a happy gal. ;)
DeleteWhen you like to travel like you do.... you should, if you can. You only live once.
ReplyDeleteYOLO, lol
DeleteThat teen phrase is thrown around this house all of the time by the kiddos in and out of it. ;)
Lovely picture Rosey! I hope you get to travel to all the places that you would like to visit and that some day you will make it to Jamaica!:) Enjoy the rest of your day.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to come have lunch with you in Jamaica some day! :)
DeleteI often get that urge to go go go, but I have to stay fairly close to home. Hubby is not a traveler and so I don't get to go to as many places as I'd like. I'd love to travel abroad, but he would never go. Plus I'm not sure I could handle that long a flight. Go whenever you get the chance and see the world! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteHubby and I have SO many differences, I'm glad travel isn't one of them. :)
DeleteI love to travel, too; however, we don't get to do this much anymore after sending kids to college. It's just too expensive. I've been to Paris twice and love it! International travel is the best.
ReplyDeletehttp://joycelansky.blogspot.com/2013/09/musical-monday-cup-song.html
College is expensive, ridiculously so at some points. BUT it does have great return values. ;) Not an expense I mind, though I could use a hefty coupon discount on some things at times. :)
DeleteI'd like to travel abroad, most I've been is across the border. Only thing that annoys me is dumb airports and not overly fond of planes, but I'll still do it.
ReplyDeleteAirplanes have their moments, and this comment inspired my latest post. :)
DeleteYou are a smart traveler. I can tell. You love my scarf? Well, I love that you travel. now we are even. LOL
ReplyDeleteI haven't been anywhere in my life; just the western US but not Alaska or Hawaii. boo. Oh well, I can see pictures. LOL
I do love that scarf, Renae!
Deleteoh i would love to be in paris...i have yet to go...and it is high on the bucket list...i do have the travel bug...i am ready to go exploring new places....
ReplyDeletePretty sure I'd want a home abroad half of the year if I was swimmingly loaded. :)
DeleteI love that you make it a point to travel with your family. It's such a great experience and your kids will definitely appreciate it when they are older and realize all the fun places they got to go.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to travel more with Reagan!

It'd be nice if I could make the youngest remember...but he won't. He already doesn't remember most trips prior to last year. That's okay though, we'll remember and he has a good time while he's there. :)
DeleteTraveling is fun, so many places
ReplyDeleteMore than we'll ever have time to visit. :)
DeleteGreat photos! The travel bug lives in me too!
ReplyDeleteParis is one of my favourite places xx
You have such great taste in destinations! :)
DeleteI have a girlfriend, a blogger, in Paris right this minute. I would love to go to Paris and see our of rose colored glasses.
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with rose colored glasses ( I say sometimes always ). :)
DeleteSo think this is a great idea! I can't wait until I get to pairs...some day!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been poking around websites looking at the travel deals. :) That just makes the itch to travel worse, but I like it anyway.
DeleteTravelling is great if you can afford it. So many countries and places and cultures to see and experience.
ReplyDeleteSo many I'll never get through my bucket list, but it'll be fun trying. :)
DeleteI totally get it and love traveling, even for just a short getaway. There's something amazing about going to another culture, experiencing their life there and learning more about the world outside our comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Agreed on all accounts. There are some places I want to travel that are too far out of my comfort zone, especially with children, but they're nice to read about anyway, from time to time. :)
DeleteI was always in a place where I was unable to travel, even though I don't have a lot of money, I don't rule it out now... I have the travel bug. I am going to Alberta in April and I look forward to seeing a fair amount of the province...
ReplyDeleteMostly I want to travel in Europe, I know I need to make it a priority, so saving a little here and there is what I need to do to make that dream come true :)
Alberta sounds like a lovely destination for travel!
DeleteI would kill to get off my "island" and travel overseas, go you live those dreams :)
ReplyDeleteMost people would push and shove to get over there where you are and just visit. :)
DeleteI would love to visit there its always been a dream of mine
ReplyDeleteI've got such a long list of places I'd love to go. It's fun looking at them (and pinning them). :)
DeleteI think the travel bug came from my father too! I have handed down to at least 2 of my sons. One of them went to Spain to run with the bulls. I could travel constantly if I could just come up with more money? Paris is my favorite, as you probably already know.
ReplyDeleteI would go to Spain and watch the run from a very high hotel room. :)
DeleteI did know you love traveling. I liked your birthday post, that Sombrero celebration looks fun!
I used to love to travel.. Well, I still do.. but it is just so expensive when you start planning for 6 of us...
ReplyDeleteyou know?! I would love to go to PARIS and LONDON
Traveling in numbers can be expensive. London is my husband's most favorite travel destination in the world. It's the one place he'd go over an over without reservation.
DeleteI've worked the travel lust out of my system, not that it was ever that strong for me.
ReplyDeleteI guess I've always had the travel bug in one form or another, I really just love it (local or abroad).
DeleteI think it's neat that you love to travel and are able to set aside time and money for it. My husband and I hope to make it overseas someday together. I've been a few times myself, but I'd love to go with him! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt would be romantic to take him if he's never been!!
DeleteMy family would take a long 1-2 week vacation every summer when I was little - I loved visiting all of the different states and the historic places that my dad took us to. I often get an urge to just drive off to see where I'll end up! We haven't been able to do very much travel but I do hope my kids can do so when they are grown and on their own!
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents or aunt/uncle (on my dad's side) used to take me camping with them sometimes in the summer, but we didn't take vacays in my house. Maybe that's why I like to do it so much now? :)
DeleteI am too scared to travel outside of the USA these days :-( I would love to see the Mayan Temples, go to Egypt and Ireland some day .. but doubtful I will if our world keeps being all in scary turmoil :-( It makes my anxiety and nerves kick in.
ReplyDeleteI think Egypt would have been a wonderful visit too, and we did want to go once upon a time. I'd like to go to Cambodia and see Angkor Wat but we've got a child way too small for that kind of trip still.
DeleteI would love to travel to Paris! I admit I'm a big chicken about airplanes and esp international travel, but I agree starting young is best because you value it early on and probably not as spooked about it. Sounds wonderful to be able to go with the family - enjoy every minute (and share it!!!)
ReplyDeleteWhew, it's my favorite thing to do besides spending time with the family, and luckily it's something I can do and enjoy both (knock on wood).
DeleteI'd love to be able to do it more. :) I'd love to do it for a living! IF the family could go with... :)
Paris! Oh, how I wish I could see Paris! Why didn't I make this trip when I was young and free to travel?? scain54@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI could go to Paris 50 times and be happy every single time. :)
DeleteParis! Wow you are so blessed. I've never beeen out of the US. This had to be an awesome trip.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my most very favorite trips. Thank you for the visit!
Deletewhat a beautiful picture. I hope to travel there on day.
Deleteknickgirl_3 at yahoo dot com
Thanks for visiting, Michelle. I loved visiting Paris. That destination for me was a dream come true.
DeleteI would love to travel to Paris in the very near future, thanks for sharing your trip!
ReplyDeleteI would love to travel there in the near future too. I'm almost always up for a trip to Paris. :)
DeleteMy Dream land Paris!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, isn't it wonderful!!
DeleteSomeday I hope to get to Europe and especially France. So many gorgeous sites to see!
ReplyDeleteThere's so many places on my bucket list, that I quit writing one. ;)
DeleteI would love to go here
ReplyDeleteI would love to go there today. ;) :)
DeleteSuch a beautiful place, planning on going next summer!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time!
DeleteParis France is such a dreamy magical place to me, great place to visit with the husband. This place is on my places to go still.
ReplyDeleteI so want to visit one day
ReplyDeleteI like to visit here
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to do your vacations you sound just like my sister in law. She picks out where she wants to go and as you say saves. They take a cruise every 3 years and take their adult daughters and their family. I love to travel my sister and I take trips a couple of times a year
ReplyDeleteI love your pics. I have been to Paris several years ago and loved it. I hope to go back again in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to visit Paris and this post just made that sooo much more intense!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to travel more. Oh, there are times I just want to be home, but I like the idea of seeing new places and people, too.
ReplyDeleteParis looks very beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have never traveled abroad. Paris is one of my top 5 places I'd love to visit. That would be a dream come true. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to go to paris!
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to go to France!
ReplyDeleteI hope to go to Paris for my 4th visit in December
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to go, that'd make for an awesome birthday.
DeleteI'd love to go during that time frame too. It'd be awesome to see the Christmas Markets.
