I have written about Matthew Reinhart's work before (you can find it towards the bottom of the article here), and if you read it, you already know that his work is extraordinary. First of all, the pop-ups are huge; second of all, they are sturdy...we've had our other book (DC Super Heroes: The Ultimate Pop-Up Book) for a couple of years now, and even though it gets read a lot, it's still in pristine condition; third, in the corners of each page, there are smaller pop-ups, just as intricately made beneath 'surprise doors;' and fourth, I guarantee that you have never seen anything like these. Mr. Reinhart (thankfully!) does not make ordinary books.
When we opened this book, my son was as interested as he always is...he loves reading, loves pop-ups, and these really large pop-ups are by far and away his favorite. You can see he is engaged and interested in this story from the get-go.
The moment of glee, however, came when he opened the page that featured Darth Vader (his favorite of the characters). You can see in the picture below that he screamed (happily), which made us all laugh.
|You can see the ultra cool fold-out flaps with even more pop-ups in the picture on the right.|
And then as with any of the books created by Reinhart (or so far as I have seen), there will be an item or two that actually lights up, in this case it was a light saber on each side of the book (how cool is that?!?).
This book was a HUGE birthday present success, just as we suspected it would be. I cannot recommend the creator of these books enough. If you are looking for something special to give your little one, take a look at the selection of books you can find here. I think you will be amazed once you get a closer look. I found the site on Facebook today, and if you're interested, you can like the page too: Pop-Up Books by Matthew Reinhart on Facebook
I am going to put these books (there are many selections, geared for both boys and girls) on my Holiday Gift Giving Guide, and maybe after you take a look, you will want to too.
-Cheers to happy reading & happy birthdays: And a ton of hugs and well wishes to my big boy, who just turned 5!
