Just reminiscing over Scotland. The castles were remarkable, our hosts even more so, and the land was just beautiful beyond anything I could describe. It's not a place I will likely return to for more than one reason, but I am surely appreciative for the chance I had to go, when I did.
Even the castles that were in ruins were beautiful. In fact, this one was probably my favorite to see because it just seemed remarkable to me that something that had the intent to be, or was so gorgeous is left in this condition.
Our hosts were friends, and they really made the trip for us. I can't imagine we'd have seen and done as much as we did, had we not had their gracious housing, touring and transporting throughout our entire stay. What a gift. What good memories. I have pretty much lost track of those friends, which is a shame, but I will forever more be grateful for their kindness while we there in their home.
What a lovely memory. I do wonder why it wasn't your favorite trip though.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, my friend. ♥
Hi Sandee, I almost wished I hadn't written that when I did because I don't want to undermine the visit. It was a lovely trip. Just lovely. It was unique and our friends were amazing and kind. I just don't think it's a place I would return. I guess because there are so many other places I'd like to see? And then, it's weird to say, but Paris is the place I MOST wanted to visit, and while I loved it, it wasn't the favorite I thought it would be either, though I would LOVE to return for a vacation there. So weird how the mind/heart works. I guess it's the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower that draw me back to Paris. I admit, I'm a touristy traveler. :) My favorite international trip was hands-down, Prague. It was the only place I visited abroad, that I missed immediately as we were driving out of it.
DeleteI'm sure walking down memory lane today!
Nice post Rosey it's a shame you lost touch with your hosts :-(
ReplyDeleteI went to Edinburgh years ago with a friend we got a coach up from London 6 hours LOL I was only young then I couldn't believe there was no underground trains there heheh!
Have a tartantastic week :-)
It is very different from London. My youngest has never been there and he wants to go. I look forward to it someday. I loved my visit to London. :)
DeleteScotland will forever hold a place in my heart. It's where my husband proposed to me.
ReplyDeleteI can see why it is a special place for you. :)
DeleteI've been to Scotland twice (lived in London for a few months) and I thought it was incredible. Did you visit Edinburgh? That was the highlight for me both times.
ReplyDeleteI also visited Paris. Once was enough. A little snotty.
We did visit Edinburgh. Went on a cheesy ghost tour there that was fun. There was some kind of scent in the air, unlike anything I've ever smelled before. Someone said it was malt.
DeleteThe photos are so beautiful. I would love to visit a castle. Seems like a nice place to visit, if only once.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am happy to have gone, if only once. :)
DeleteScotland looks wonderful! It’s definitely on my list of places I’d love to visit someday
ReplyDeleteIt did have some one of a kind places that we got to see. I loved the castle that was in ruins.
DeleteSorry it wasn't one of your favorite trips! Scotland or a place like it is on my list though. I'd love to get amazing views and cool castles!
ReplyDeleteI did for sure love the amazing views. :)
DeleteI've always wanted to visit Scotland. It looks like such a gorgeous place I've been to a few places in Europe, but didn't make it there. I love the old castles and lush, green land.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to return to Europe about 99,000 more times. Def. my favorite place to holiday. :)
DeleteScotland has been in my mind for a while now! I might be traveling there in September. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures. Scotland seems like a wonderful place to visit. It's always nice if your hosts are friends.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to visit Scotland someday. It's on my bucket list.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Rosey!
Beautiful pictures - makes me want to book a trip right now! I will definitely get to Scotland sometime soon!
ReplyDeletePrecious memories.
ReplyDeleteI was in Edinburg few years ago but too bad I was only staying for a short time and wished I could stay longer to explore more part of Scotland. I love the Edinburgn Castle which was built high up.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you have your reasons why it wasn't your favourite trip. I have never been to Scotland before but I hope it will be soon.
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit Scotland. Have been planning it for a while. Thanks for sharing these photos and your experience in such an alluring country.
ReplyDeleteA tour of any country is the best with a guide. It's even better when the guide is a friend! You'll have memories to last a lifetime for sure!
ReplyDeleteOmg I would love it if I ended up visiting Scotland one day!!! Such a pretty place to visit
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit Scotland. It seems so fun and exciting!
ReplyDeleteWe're actually considering Scotland for our trip next year. We're England first then train to Scotland. Wondering why it's not one of your favourites?
ReplyDeleteNothing I can put my finger on really. I honestly can't say. I enjoyed myself. I really appreciated and liked our hosts. Everything we saw was beautiful. Some of my favorite photos from any vacation I've ever taken were there. The only thing I can think of is I like to walk to a lot of places to visit, and here we had to take long drives to get everywhere? I honestly don't know. I did enjoy the trip, for sure, and I am grateful that we got to go.
DeleteI never visited Scotland. Heard people are great there but as I live in the Netherlands everytime I am able to go on holidays, I go for sunny destinations.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of pictures of Scotland and I must say it is quite a beautiful place. It's really great when your host is so friendly and accommodating.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and looks like a place to have fun! not sure why it wasnt fun for you. Sometimes it is not the place but you who has to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteScotland is on my top travel list. I want to stay in an old cottage by the water!
ReplyDeleteWow! Scotland is beautiful! Makes me want to insert myself in your photo right now! Lol!
ReplyDeleteScotland is on my bucketlist for sure. It is seriously an amazing place and I would sooooo love to go there!!
ReplyDeleteScotland is one of my favorite places in the travel bucket list. I really hope to see it soon as one of my favorite players (Andy Murray) is from Scotland.
ReplyDeleteWe went to Scotland a couple of years ago, and we loved it so much. It's such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad it wasn't as enjoyable as you thought it would be. Scotland is super high on my list of places I want to visit. I really wanted to go there next year, but that's probably not going to be a possibility. Did you see any highland cows when you were there. Maybe you've noticed, I have a slight obsession with pinning those cows on Pinterest (Allison sure has been yelling at me about all the stupid cows that keep showing up in her feed because of me lol). Jason wants to go on a whisky tour. I told him just drop me off near some cows and head on down the road and do his thing. I'd be so fine hanging out countryside all day there, I'm sure lol. How wonderful you had such gracious hosts to show you around too. My best friend's daughter is headed to Sweden next month to visit her boyfriend (he was here to finish his senior year as a foreign exchange student). Before he left, I told him that he BETTER show her the best spots Sweden has to offer from a local's point of view. I expect lots and lots of pictures because Sweden is another place I'd really like to explore.
ReplyDeleteAh she's lucky. He probably does know all of the best spots in Sweden. That will be a once in a lifetime trip for her!! I think those cows are cute. I did not see one while we were in Scotland. :) I hope you get to Scotland soon. :)
DeleteSure some great castles. Stinks you lost touch with the family. Having someone show you around is great indeed.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t yet visited Scotland. I got on England every year, but haven’t quite gotten up to Scotland yet. I’d love to, even if just once.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of Scotland!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great place! If I'm ever headed that way I will stop by!
ReplyDeleteScotland is my bucket list! Love your photos!
