Last weekend, my second oldest son's sweet daughter was here (her first time to spend the night) and she wanted to have grandmama next to her, which of course was perfectly fine. I soon came to discover that she is an all-over-the-bed kind of sleeper. She went from the head of the bed, to the side, to the bottom, all before I could even finish the chapter of a book I was reading (and she was sound asleep).
My bed has a comfortable split king mattress, and is super roomy, but I knew that in no time flat she was going to end up on the floor. She's a little tiny one, and my bed is up very high, so I bargained with the teen. I told him he could take my room, and we'd put his mattress in the living room on the floor (to ensure if the sweet little one toppled off, she would be fine).
He readily agreed, and I had him sit next to her while I set up the makeshift campsite. I transferred the little one to the living room and she didn't even wake up. She was again, all over the place with her precious little rolling around self. My teen's mattress is significantly smaller than mine, so I chose to sleep on the floor next to the mattress. That way I could be a barrier if she fell off of the one side she kept gravitating to (LOL!!). It was perfectly fine though, I'd do it all again in an instant. She's a joy, and I loved having her here. All of my grandbabes are sweet little buttercups, and I enjoy every second I can get with any one (or all) of them.
When my teen woke up and came out to see the sleeping arrangement (namely me on the floor and the babe on the comfy mattress) he started cracking up. He made a big deal of stretching languorously and telling me how restful his sleep on the big comfy mattress was... to which I promptly threw my pillow at him and told him he was in charge of making breakfast. :)
All is well that ends well though. The little one was delighted to wake up on a mattress in the living room. To her it was a big adventure. And the teen didn't have to make breakfast afterall because his big brother (lil'-bit's daddy) called and wanted to meet for breakfast. We ended up at a cute diner with perfectly-sized silver dollar pancakes and fresh fruit on the menu for the baby grand. And a teen still telling (and laughing) about the mattress story.
Honestly though, I cannot wait for the next grandbabe adventure. Whoever said grand-littles are the best, surely knew what they were saying. :)
I have been sleeping on the floor for over a week now and i love it!!! I heard it helps aligning the body...
ReplyDeleteYou reminded me of when my granddaughter used to sleep with me. She ran in her sleep and I had the bruises to prove it. I loved every minute though.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, my friend. ♥
Of course it was worth it. And not cooking breakfast was a bonus.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awesome video with the little one exploring the soccering! And the story is heartwarming.
ReplyDeleteGrandchildren are the sweetest in the world. I hope to see my grandchildren ( my eldest just got married) soon. ha.ha..
ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a little adventure for everyone.
ReplyDeleteAwww. I grew up with my grandma so yes, a grandmother's love is so true that they'd be willing to give you everything that they could. Your grandson is so lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteAwww, this is really cute. Makes me miss my grandpa a lot! I am not little though.
ReplyDeleteThe things we do for our loved ones. I've slept on the floor a time or two myself and would do it again in a heartbeat as well.
