Unexpected Things You Might See During Your Next Visit to New York City

It’s no surprise that New York City is on so many peoples’ bucket list of must-see places, with so many things to see and do in this historic city. If you’ve been to New York before, however, you’ve likely exhausted your list of tourist destinations, or perhaps you’re simply a more adventurous traveler looking to see some unique sights in this wonderful city. Here are a few unexpected things to see and do in The Big Apple during your next trip.

Outdoor Street Festivals and Concerts

During almost every season, New York is home to street festivals, block parties and outdoor events and concerts that are welcoming to native New Yorkers and visitors alike. Whether you stumble upon a street carnival with amazing food from around the world or see street pianos in New York with a world-class musician playing a beautiful sonata, there’s always something unexpected to see if you look hard enough. Rather than paying for an expensive restaurant or concert, you might get to experience one for free just by walking down the street.

TV Shows and Movies Filming

Another unexpected sight is seeing an entire city block shut down, with brightly colored fliers plastered to every street light letting residents know they can’t park there on certain days. This is often a sign that a movie or television show will be filming there. You can sometimes even catch a glimpse of celebrities while they are filming, but don’t draw too much attention to them or crew members will send you away from the filming area.

Beautiful Parks and Outdoor Spaces

While everyone knows about Central Park in Manhattan, you might be surprised to know that there are almost two thousand parks and outdoor spaces in New York City—some that might even make you forget you’re in a city at all! There are many types of experiences, from cliffside views at Wave Hill in the Bronx to the ocean at Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn, there’s sure to be an outdoor space that appeals to everyone. Although you’re in the middle of the largest city in the country, there are plenty of places New Yorkers find to escape the busy city life.

New York City offers many one-of-a-kind experiences to tourists and locals alike. You could live there for many years and still not see everything the city has to offer. As long as you keep your eyes and ears open to new experiences, you might see some of the things on this guide, and many more.

  1. It's a place I've never wanted to go. Okay, I'm not a fan of any big city. I'm more of a Mayberry kind of gal.

Have a fabulous weekend, my friend. ♥

New York is not on my bucket list and it is unlikely I will ever get there, but it is nice to see/hear a different perspective.
