There are some items you can buy in generic or cheap form and they work just fine. There are others where you want the best quality you can get, and gamine headsets, for so many reasons, fall into that latter category. In our house, Audio-Technica has proven their products to us, over and over again. I am seriously thinking of buying this exact same pair for my oldest son to use, since he is doing a lot of work online with his real estate work and personal screening business (no way his youngest brother is going to give up these, he's fallen madly in love with them).
The official model is the ATH-ADG1X Openair and they are a great set of high-fidelity headphones geared towards gaming, or any other way you might need them to communicate online.
As I noted before, we have audio-technica products in the house, so I knew when we unboxed these that they would be packaged nicely, and in a manner that would keep them safe. You can see from the photo above that we were exactly right to think so.
They are made very considerately as well. For instance, the Left/Right designators are listed on the outside of the headphones, to ensure you are wearing them the right way.
The double decker, adjustable head rest is super lightweight metal and rests easy on the head (important if you are going to be using these any length of time).
Even so, they also have padding on the inside that also ensures a high comfort level.
The large round muffs on each side are also padded on the inside, and feel nice against your skin.
A mute/volume switch is on the cord that attaches to your headphones, which enables the user to talk to someone in the room without the other person on the line hearing what is going on in the home. That makes these ideal not only for gaming, but also for working at home, or using them to communicate with others in any other professional or personal way. An optional windscreen pad is included too, to go over the end of the microphone. There is no echo or feedback whatsoever when you use these. There is also no background noise and the quality is instantly felt once you put these on. There is no mistaking these for anything but the best from the moment you set eyes on them, and quite frankly, once you use a pair of this caliber, there is no turning back.
The microphone has a nice reach too, so you can just talk naturally (not increasing your own volume) to get your messages across.
Here is a close-up too, of the ear muff and how easily and comfortably it rests against the side of your head. Truly, these are the most comfortable fit I've found for headphones with a headset. The honeycomb metal is nice and light too, and they allow air to circulate, so you're not working up a sweat while you're working on your game!
The premium gooseneck microphone is adjustable too, so you can move it away from your mouth with a slight movement, which of course comes in handy if you don't want to use the mute switch.
