Please Pay Attention to Your Roof!

In most cases, houses are in pristine condition on the day you purchase, but that will always change over time. If you are like most people, you pay attention to the more obvious things affecting the comfort and livability of your home like the HVAC system. One of the most commonly overlooked areas of the home is the roof.

Many homeowners don't notice a problem with their roof until it is too late, leading to a leaky roof that can cause extensive damage throughout the rest of the house. Like your own personal health, prevention is the best cure. Your budget will take less of a blow if you replace your roof before you absolutely have to. If you are a homeowner and don't know much about roofing, here are four signs that your roof needs replacing soon.

Age - This is the most common sign. Any roof more than ten years old should be checked out by a professional on an annual basis. Regular maintenance is proven to increase any roof's lifespan. Most roofs have a lifespan of about 20 years, so you should definitely consider replacement if you have had yours for that amount of time.

Shingle Particles in the Gutter - Of course, you clean your gutters out on a regular basis. When you do, take a look. Do you notice shingle dust and particles collecting in them? This could be a sign that serious problems are around the corner for your roof.

Sponginess - Get out and walk around on your roof. If you feel it's spongey or sagging in certain areas, there could be a serious problem. This means the padding under the roof is taking on water. This moisture could eventually get into your attic and cause serious issues like mold and even flooding.

Missing Shingles - If you have missing shingles in spots on your roof, have it looked at immediately. At the least, you should replace those shingles, but it could indicate an even more serious issue down the road.

These are just four signs that your roof could need to be replaced. One key is to have your roof regularly inspected during the time you live in the home. There are many great companies for roofing La Plata MD has to offer its residents like Ace Home Improvements to help you keep you and your family safe and protected from the elements with a new or updated roof.

  1. The roof sure is something to keep an eye on. Seen so many get screwed by what would be an easy fix at the start, but then created one big mess before they got to it.

  3. Our roof has to parts. The first part was replaced 3 years before the second part that is how I keep track. Roofs are one of the most if not the most expensive parts of a house to repair, therefore your post is a very important one. Repair before it needs replaced!

  4. This is a good reminder for us to check our house especially the roof. It's very costly to do a renovation or change the whole thing when it's taken for granted. I also frequently check our pipes and lines.

  7. This is a great reminder to keep an eye on your roof. Usually we don't pay attention until it starts leaking. I'm going to have to check on it more often.
