Blue Penguin and Bears in the Snow are both great book ideas for holiday gift giving, and they both come from the extensive library found at Candlewick Press.
Blue Penguin is a hardcover, oversized book with a tale about a penguin who is a bit different from the others.
Not everyone treated him well because he did not conform to their idea of what a penguin should be.
The penguin began to sing and relate to someone rather unexpected as the story progressed.
The ending is a happy one, but I won't give it away. The pictures in the book are bright and engaging. The storyline has a message that's easily understood by the target age group, which is 3-7. Written and illustrated by Petr Horacek, this is a fine addition to any child's book collection.
Bears in the Snow is a story about a group of cute little bears who want to go sledding on a snowy day.
The trouble is, the sled isn't big enough for them to go all at once. So what on Earth are they going to do?
Written by Shirley Parenteau and illustrated by David Walker, this hardcover book designed for children ages 2-5 is sure to please with it's short but lively story of how this group goes about their own special kind of problem solving.
The ending on this one is happy too (my favorite kind of book!) and the characters are a delight no matter your age. This is going to be a fun book for my granddaughter to open on Christmas morning.
