Visiting the Fire Station

Little man at the end of the line, waiting to get in the truck

At the beginning of last month we took a tour of the fire station. We got to look around the inside of the office and see where the firefighters went to relax, sleep, eat, and train. We also saw the chief's office and got to hear how the day-to-day routine went when there was no call to take.

The tour of the garage was next, and that's where we got to see the fire engines. The kids thought it was awesome, but I was pretty impressed too. The chief let the boys tour the inside of the truck. That's my little one at the end of the line in the picture above.

This is the other side, he's on his way out.
Of all the things to get excited about.. he was thrilled he got to sit on the seat of the truck.

And that's my little one coming out of the other side. :)  I really liked that they were allowed to be hands-on and touch and explore the trucks, and hear about how the equipment worked (and what exactly things were used for when the trucks were out on a call). There were a lot of things to see and learn, but what my son got most excited about, was that he got to sit on the seat and look out the window. That made me laugh because truly when he was looking out, all you could see was the tippy-top of his hat. ;)

The tour was really hands-on and the Scouts got to actually touch and feel
a good number of things on the truck.

It's really pretty amazing how efficient the trucks are at utilizing space for useful things, allowing for a sufficient system to be created to help with whatever type of emergency or assistance might be needed from something that has to be mobile.

He was talking a mile a minute telling me about the buttons and gadgets. ;)

All of the kids were pretty psyched about learning the real workings of the trucks, and it was definitely an interesting and fun day for the Scouts.

The day we went happened to coincide with practice runs for trainees.
This ladder was extended very high in the air.
Surprisingly, it didn't shake or falter a bit with the weight of the man on it.

One treat we had that we might not have come across on any other day was the training. Men and women training to be firefighters were performing vigorous exercises to get them ready to become official. The one the kids liked the most (and us adults were pretty mesmerized to watch too) was the ladder climb. I wish I'd have thought to ask how high up that ladder extended because it really was way up there. Amazingly, the ladder didn't shake a bit with the weight of the person on it, not even when he got to the tippy-top. I imagine climbing up there with a load of heavy gear is no easy task. If you have to guide a person down with you too, I imagine it's even more of a challenge (especially if the person being guided is apprehensive).

On the side of the fire truck, there is an intercom system that reaches the firefighter on the ladder, so he/she can readily communicate with whomever is down below. Once a trainee would reach the top, the chief would push a button and ask them how it was up there. The guy in the picture above said it was cold! lol  He wasn't wrong. It was definitely a chilly day to be out training.

A photo opp with the chief who was kind enough to give us a tour.

We did the group photo opp at the end of the tour, and the kids all got fire hats and coloring books. Definitely a fun outing for the day.

Contest Ends 2/2 just before noon (11:50 a.m.)

This year, leading up to the Super Bowl, which is right around the corner!!!, Southern Recipe, Rudolph's, Pepe's, and Lee's snacks are doing something great! They are donating to Pass the Pigskin, an organization being supported by Ickey Woods and Coach Ditka, every single time someone makes a snack purchase.

Every purchase of Southern Recipe, Rudolph's, Peep's, and Lee's snacks
will generate a donation to Gridiron Greats.

Southern Recipe is one of the participating brands.
Look at some of the flavor choices they've got for the Pork Rinds!

We've got our Southern Recipe Pork Rinds on hand, and above you can see a sampling of some of the flavor varieties that are offered. Check out the website to learn more about this delicious snack line. You'll find more than just Pork Rinds...but for my husband and kids, Pork Rinds is as much as they need to know (they love those things!).

In addition to the donations for snack purchases, football Hall-of-Famer Coach Ditka and former football player Ickey Woods (of the famed Ickey Shuffle!) are working hard to help promote and find ways to generate donations to The Gridiron Greats.

The Gridiron Greats is an organization that helps former football players gain solid footing when the need it. Over 1,000 players and their families have already been helped, and they are hoping to help many more. In fact, Coach Ditka has said if donations get to $100,000, he will Prancercize at the 2015 football draft in Chicago. Ha! That alone is worth making a donation in my book... but the goal behind the idea is worth even more!  You can learn more about the initiative, and donate if you'd like, here: http://gridirongreats.org/index.php/home

Click on the picture above when you get to
the website, to play the game!

There is also a contest going on, and if you want in on this one, you'd better hurry, entries are only being accepted until just before noon (11:59 a.m.) on 2/2. One lucky winner is going to receive $3500 and free pork rinds...just for playing the game! Share to gain extra entries, and help draw attention to this very worthy cause!

You can visit the website here, to play the game and enter for your chance to win the prize...but hurry, it's ending soon!

Every little bit helps, so don't forget to pick up your pork rinds
(or other qualifying snack) for the big day (Super Bowl XLIX)!

Introducing LoveSpoon Candles

Disclosure: I received a product sample to help facilitate the review. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

The Cornerstone Collection Candles have wood wick!
They burn clean, smell good, and they crackle!

Have you ever heard of a LoveSpoon? In Wales, "a LoveSpoon is a wooden spoon decoratively carved that was presented as the best wedding gift which ultimately symbolized romantic intent." Because of their beautiful and intricate detail, they are no longer used as functioning spoons, but rather are presented as housewarming or wedding gifts, or are given as a gift to a woman. And that is from where the name derived.

LoveSpoon candles are 100% soy, and they smell really good! They're also very solid, and their classic look fits well with most any style of room. You can choose from two different kinds (with varying scent options for each). There is the Cornerstone Collection that comes in a decorative tin and burns with a wood wick. the descriptions says these wicks crackle when burning. How soothing would that be while taking a bath, or lounging on the beachside patio at night, doing nothing but kicking back to relax??! Oh wait, I'm daydreaming, there are no beaches around here, but you get what I'm saying, right?

The Monogram Series comes with a cotton eco-wick.
This is the one I tried, in the Lime Cooler scent.

LoveSpoon also offers the Monogrammed Series that comes in a glass jar. The eco-wick on these candles is made of cotton. A large number of fragrances are available to choose from, and I got a random sample of Lime Cooler. This tropical citrus and fruit delight begins with the scents of tart lime, refreshing orange, and crisp apple. Our Lime Cooler candles have the best fruity, flroal heart with rose, black currant and sweet vanilla plums.

Such a nice glow when the lights go out!

The Monogram Candle provided such a nice glow when we turned off the lights! It was impressive, and instantly changed the atmosphere. Funny how something simple like a candle can do that, I know.

This is after burning it for half an hour.
Very little amounts of the soy wax melted.
That means we'll get a lot of use out of this candle!

The 100 % soy wax burns slowly, which I like. After half an hour of burning, only a small amount of the candle wax was gone. That means we'll get a lot more use out of it in the future.

The Monogram Series LoveSpoon Candle burns clean.
This picture was taken while it was being blown out.
Notice, no icky smoky residue to wave off.

The Monogram Series Love Spoon Candle burns clean, and doesn't release chemicals that might be found in traditional paraffin candle wax. You can see in the picture above that when we blew it out (and this picture was taken immediately upon blowing out the flame) that there is no smoke produced and lingering when the candle goes out. I like that...nothing ruins the pleasant experience of a candle burning faster than blowing one out and being left with obnoxious, lingering smoke fumes.

Don't Forget Valentine's Day!

Don't forget too, that Valentine's Day is quickly approaching. Check out the many great scents and see if you might find one that would be just right for your holiday gift giving (and of course, these are good for any time of the year as well).

LoveSpoon Candles is one of those companies that gives back too (in terms of charity), and of course that is something we all like to see going hand-in-hand with a business. You can learn more about their charity efforts, product, and such by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Wordless Wednesday: Charge It!

I'm cleaning up my pictures on the computer, and came across this one.
On the way in to the movies...we saw an electric car charging station.

On the way out, we saw a car actually utilizing it. Cool, right?
My first time ever seeing a station in a parking lot.
Do you have them where you live?

What Type of Flooring Should I Get? DirectBuy Can Help

I'm ready for new flooring in our main corridor and dining room, both of which currently have carpet. I would love to switch to something easier to clean as both get a lot of foot traffic coming in directly from the outside. There is a spot right at the front door where people can take off their shoes before they come in, but well, you know how that sometimes goes. It's been 7-yrs since we put that carpet in, and although professional cleaning revives it somewhat, it's still time for it to go. Our dilemma? Deciding what kind of flooring will be most appropriate in those places, in terms of both durability and visual appeal. That's where DirectBuy comes in.

With a wide array of flooring available for purchase, DirectBuy understands that deciding which kind of flooring to buy can sometimes be overwhelming. As such, they've put together a handy dandy infograph for you, to help make things a little easier.

Learn more about DirectBuy by visiting their website. Be sure too, to check them out on Facebook and/or Twitter.

300 winners get a free bottle of #PurexPowerShot with a new Flip-Dose Cap! 3 additional winners get one here!

3 Grand Prize Winners are going to get a Whirlpool Washer & Dryer
300 entrants will get a free bottle of the new Purex PowerShot Detergent

Purex has a Sweepstakes going on right now, & they want you to enter!

Three grand prize winners getting a Whirlpool Washer & Dryer Set.

300 winners will get a free bottle of the NEW Purex PowerShot Detergent.

Everyone who enters will receive a $1 off coupon in their e-mail.

Enter the Purex Giveaway HERE!

Purex also has a giveaway for three lucky Mail4Rosey readers. Each winner will get a coupon for one free bottle of Purex PowerShot Detergent. That giveaway will be on the Rafflecopter form below.

Brilliant white seal to prevent leaking during shipping. ;)

Look what we got in the mail, hurrah! I was happy to get it too because I love the new cap. If there's one thing I hate, it's laundry detergent drips on the bottle. It's gross, and if you don't see it/catch it right away it's hard to get off. It's unsightly, wasteful, annoying....and common! In fact, I'd say laundry detergent drips on the bottle more than half of the time when I use it.  No more! Thanks to the New Purex PowerShot Laundry Detergent, drips are a thing of my past.

AND the Purex PowerShot cleans the clothes well, even with our well water. That's no small thing. Even with a great water softener, which we have, our well water can leave clothes dingy if we don't use the right detergent.

Brilliant New No-Guess Cap!

The new flip.dose.done cap is very easy to use. Simply open the cap, flip the bottle upside down and deliver one super concentrated dose of detergent. Flip the bottle back upright and you're done. The PowerShot automatically refills and is ready for the next dose.

Please note it is super concentrated, so the dose measured might seem small to you, and that's okay. It's going to work, it worked great for me! The small amount used simply means more great product for the price.

And...brilliant Purex Giveaway :)
3 winners. Each one will get a coupon to try the new #Purex

The Purex PowerShot comes in two popular fragrances, Mountain Breeze and Natural Elements. I tried the Mountain Breeze. It smells gooood. A really natural, clean smell that is oh so pleasant to use. It's not a heavy smell (I don't like heavy scents), but rather a refreshing one that I enjoy.

You can learn more about Purex by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram.

US entrants only for the coupon giveaway.

Rogers Family Gourmet Coffee #Giveaway

Disclosure: I received samples to help facilitate the review. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Rogers Family Company is giving one lucky reader these four bags of coffee!

What's a good way to start a Monday morning? With a coffee review that gives you the chance to enter to win four bags of your own! Thanks to Rogers Family Gourmet Coffee, that's how Monday is starting over here today. :)

If you visit the Rogers Family Gourmet Coffee website, you're going to find a great number of items related to coffee and tea (including single-serve cups, accessories, gift baskets, tips to keep your coffee fresh, etc.). You're also going to find a huge selection of coffee that you can get in a variety of ways. Seriously, the options are amazing...type, flavor, roast...you can even select the type of ground you'd like for your coffee purchase. My husband likes to get the beans, I like to get the traditional automatic drip grind.

Did I mention they have a large variety of flavors and roasts? We've got four of them, and now I have the same four to give to one of you! Each of these are in 12 oz. bags, with an automatic drip grind.

When it comes to coffee, I dabble in flavors but I can take them or leave them... with one exception: Amaretto. Amaretto coffee is my weakness. I don't drink it often because I like it to be a treat, but when I do drink it... oh my! :)  The Amaretto Coffee we received from Rogers is the Fairwinds Coffee brand. It is a rich, full-bodied coffee, with zero aftertaste (which you do sometimes get with Amaretto). I love no aftertaste!  Fairwinds roasts their top-quality, hand-picked Arabica beans by hand, in small batches allowing for a darker, more flavorful blend. They package the coffee still warm, right out of the roaster, in vacuum sealed bags. The front of the bag has a one-way valve on the front to allow gasses to get out, and prevent air from getting in.

When it comes to traditional coffee, I like a medium roast. The San Francisco Bay Fog Chaser coffee is a blend of Central and South American coffees, all choice, hand-grown and hand-picked. It is also bagged warm, just out of the roaster. As much as I would love to open this bag up and taste it, I've decided instead to send it to my oldest son in D.C. He's up at 4 a.m. every morning, to head on out to work...coffee is a must-have for him in the morning, and he enjoys it. so I thought I'd send him this as a treat.

My husband likes most any kind of coffee, including the dessert flavors. When I asked him to pick out two flavors for the review/giveaway he went right to the Black Mountain Gold Swiss Chocolate Almond Premium Gourmet Coffee. This is a velvety Swiss chocolate from the Alps with fresh slivered almonds. If you like chocolate coffee, chances are very high you're going to like this blend. I brewed this one up this morning for hubby to take to work with him, he called and said he likes it! I'm not surprised, but... still good to know. I took a taste this morning, you can definitely taste the flavors, but not to the point that it's overwhelming, and again, no aftertaste (important to me with flavors).

While my husband will drink most any roast happily, it is the dark roasts that he loves the most. Over the weekend we tried the Cafe Jerusalem Kosher Coffee from Lion Gate (that my was my husband's second choice for the review). This is a smoky, rich, full-bodied cup that is also certified by the Star-K Kosher Certification. This was a coffee he really liked. I appreciated the flavor, it really is good. Dark roasts always taste stronger to me and this was no exception.

If you're looking to find a coffee company online that will deliver delicious options right to your door, take a look at the Roger's Family Coffee Company. In addition to the wonderful selections you'll find, it is definitely worth noting that the company cares about the carbon footprint they're leaving on the environment. In fact, the coffee they personally grow is done so on biodiverse shade coffee farms, which makes them a carbon negative company, and this case, negative is really, really good! They also are very involved in community aid, ensuring the farmers they work with around the world are paid well above the norm. They invest in the communities in way too many areas to list, and if you're interested in that, I encourage you to take a look here.

I could get wrapped up in all of the great that goes along with the Roger's Family Coffee Company, but for the sake of time, I'll get back to the giveaway.  One lucky winner is going to win one each of the four bags mentioned above. US entrants only.

You can learn more about the Rogers Family Company by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, G+, YouTube, Pinterest, and/or Instagram. You can also sign up for their newsletter and follow along on their blog.

Support a Business Venture/Adventure (with ZumZum Balance Bike #Giveaway)

Disclosure: Mail4Rosey did not receive compensation to help promote this giveaway and is not responsible for prize delivery.

I'm telling you... if you're interested in seeing a great review on a really cool sounding bike, head on over to Growing Up Madison and read what she has to say. This ZumZum bike really does have so many great features and a most excellent concept behind it. She's giving one away, and you can enter over there, or over here, since she was kind enough to share the Rafflecopter code. Either way, be sure to check out her review. If you have a child the right age for the ZumZum Balance Bike, you're going to want to check this out!

The Kickstarter campaign for this ends in less than two weeks!
You can check it out here.

ZumZum Bike has a campaign going on to try and raise funds for the business. It's an all or nothing kind of thing, meaning if they don't reach the goal, they get nothing. I have to say, they're doing pretty great...inching towards that goal, and they have 14 days left to make it! I'd love to see them cross the goal line, arms raised in victory. You can learn more about that here.

The giveaway for the bike (RV $249) is going to be short and sweet. Hurry to enter, if you want a chance to win. Ends 1/31 US/Canada/Australia/Europe entrants.

Invite BandZ: A New Way to Party!

Disclosure: I received a sample to help facilitate the review. All opinions stated are genuine and my own. This post contains affiliate links, which means if you purchase from my link, I get a few pennies on the dollar (and if you're shopping, thank you!).

This InviteBandZ kit allows your invitees to log on to RSVP, see your customized page,
see a gift list (if you want to post one), and more!

When I throw a party for one of the kids, it's not the planning, purchasing, set-up, or even clean-up that stresses me out. It's the RSVP process. For some reason, people don't like to pick up the phone and say, 'hey, we'll be there, thanks,' and so up until the moment the party starts you really don't know how many people are going to show up (or not show up). That means you have to play a guessing game as to how to plan activities, how much food to put out, how many party bags to make up, etc.

And then the fateful day comes and people who didn't RSVP always show up. Often times, those people bring extra people (siblings, cousins, neighbors, lol), and if you haven't planned accordingly for enough extras, you're likely to leave someone out on something, and no one wants to do that... nor does any kid want to show up to a party and have that done.

Enter Invite BandZ by Marked Private.

$14.99 for 8 party invitation/Invite Bandz (plus one for the host).

Inside of this kit, that retails for $14.99, you will find step-by-step instructions to help you set up your next party invites online. You will receive an easy-to-sign-up-for account once you enter the code on a card inside of your box. That code is linked instantly to the (8)  wrist bands that are also included in the box. If you're having a very big party, and have purchased more than one Invite BandZ box, you can easily link all bands to the same party by entering the Host Code from each box when the website asks, "Do you have more than one box of Bandz to add?"

There are (8) solid colored bands in the kit, and one multi-color band (for the host).

The Invite Bandz come in 8 different solid colors. An additional host party band is included, and that one is multi-colored (making yours easy to differentiate from the others). You take a band, place it with an invite card (the bracelet band wraps precisely around the end of each invite card) and give it to the person you have invited to the party. You can hand the bands out in person, or you can mail them in the envelopes provided. If you have little ones like my 1st grader, you could even ask the teacher to put them in selected folders (or whatever it is the kids take home from school daily).

On the Invite Card will be a website. Invitees simply log on to the website to RSVP, and note how many people they will bring (if any). The site they log onto will take them to your party page. This is where the fun comes in for you! You can design the party page to look any way you like. You can add photos, background stickers, videos, etc. There's even an ultra cool option to have a timer counting down the days until the party.

Once the party is over, you can create a 'thank you' page on the website, also custom made by you. Upload pictures from the party, allow party-goers to upload pictures they took, display videos, etc.  And if you don't want the party to end, keep the page open so guests can continue to come back and 'party' through the MP Friendz Hub, a private, safe and fun way your child and his/her specific friends can network online together.

I think this kit is pretty appropriate for the days and times. Kids like to go online, they like these kind of wristbands, and if the children are younger, their parents are going to like the ease of being able to log on and say in a matter of seconds that yes, their child will be attending. My daughter will be having her Sweet 16 soon, and I think this will be a fun way for her to invite her friends. Goodness knows they're all always on their phones...her included, so RSVP'ing for them should be a breeze, and the party page will be fun!

You can learn more about the product, or purchase it here: Invite BandZ

Keep Your Air Fresh w/the Febreze Air Purifier (with #giveaway)

Disclosure: Mail4Rosey did not receive compensation to help promote this giveaway and is not responsible for prize delivery.

The holidays are over, but that doesn't mean people aren't going to show up from time-to-time unannounced and ready to visit. While we don't mind at all when friends or family unexpectedly come to call, we do want to make sure we're always ready for the 'just in case.' One way to do that, is with the Febreze Air Purifier.

The visually appealing design allows this little beauty to fit right in to most any room design, and it is slim enough too, that it is not going to take up too much unnecessary room. I have never tried one of these myself, but I do love that it has a control dial that allows you to decide how much, if any, of the light scent you want released; all while removing air impurities from the room.

Julie Edelman from Accidental Housewife also notes the benefit of being able to use one of the Febreze Air Purifiers if you have pets.

Julie Edelman Tip on Embarrassing Pet Odors:

We love our furry friends, but we're not so fond of the embarrassing pet odor that they leave around the house--from kitty litter to pet mishaps to wet dog smell. Try using the Febreze Air Purifier to reduce odors and add a fresh, clean scent back into the air.

There are many other tips and ways to get the best kind of use out of the Febreze air purifier, and I think I might be picking one up for me, as a quick and easy way to keep the air clean in my house. That way when unexpected guests do show up, I'm geared up and ready to go.

What household cleaning tip do you have to share?

One lucky winner gets a Febreze Air Purifier to call their own. US entrants only.

SNAPO Click, Slide, and Rotate Your Way to Building Fun!

Disclosure: I received a sample product to help facilitate the review. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

My son likes to build things, and he's pretty great at it too. He'll start off reading the directions and make something as suggested. When that works out, the real fun begins and he'll branch out and do his own thing. Some of the concoctions he comes up with really crack me up. He's got a great imagination! One way to encourage both (his love of building and his imagination) is through Snapo.

There are a lot of different brands of building blocks/kits, but for me, there a few things that really make Snapo stand out above the crowd. First and foremost, I like that they come with a storage container. This handy plastic jar makes it easy to store the pieces when they're not in use, and they help make clean-up a breeze too. It's a vertical container too, so it doesn't take up hardly any space at all.

Second, I like that there are not a bazillion pieces in the kit. While huge building kits have their place, it's also nice to have a smaller container like this one, where projects can be made quickly and with ease.

Third, we really like that these little pieces are so sturdy!

Fourth, these pieces are easy to assemble, and they don't come off until you take them off (yet they pop off very easily when you're trying to do so intentionally). They snap, slide, and/or rotate (loving that they rotate!) at will, and honestly they're just so easy to work with....this little set has become and instant household fave.

Last night after dinner and just before bed (hence the jammies ;) ) my son and I took these out to build. Above you see he made a little Palm Tree, a house, and a little guy.

And then he made a little car for his guy (with a propeller on the back, in case the little guy needed to go really fast ;) ).

These SNAPO blocks were such a huge surprise to me. I had no idea how much I was going to really like these, but I do! And I recommend them to anyone who has a little one who likes to build. They've got every single thing I would ask for, if I made a list of what I'd like to see in blocks. There are many different styles/sizes of sets to choose from...take a look around and see what you like! These are recommended for children ages 3+

You can learn more about SNAPO by visiting their website. You can also follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.
