You get to choose from various speed on the dial, or you can push the button that will give you a combination of speeds in one setting.
I guess you can see it more clearly in this picture. Turn the dial to choose your speed, or push a ready-to-use preset button.
This is an inside look down the carafe. That's a stainless steel blade there, and it makes fine work of frozen fruits and veggies. It does a good job with ice too, which seems to be the thing that is hardest on blender motors. This blender works on a 1.1 HP High Power Motor.
