4 Tips to Ensure Your Day Starts Well

What do you do to ensure your day starts well? Of course there are many things you can do long-term, like eating a healthy diet, getting enough exercise and ensuring you are taking a multi-vitamin if you need it. But what about short-term, in the immediate, right now?

Here's what I do, and I'm telling you, I've been waking up feeling great!!

1. Get a good night's rest! It's important that you're getting your recommended daily amount of sleep in, and that you're sleeping well, all through the night. Buying the right mattress can make a big difference too, and is an investment well worth considering.

2. Make sure the room you're sleeping in is not too hot, or too cold. Waking up intermittently during the night because your body is telling you to chill out, or heat up, leaves you with the need for two cups of coffee in the morning...one for each hand. No one wants to deal with that, so set the temperature accordingly, and keep blankets, throws, sheets, etc. nearby they're easy to grab and take to bed with you.

3. Make sure the room is dark. This is especially important if you're a light sleeper, or wake up to the first peep of sunshine that brightens its way into your room. Get darkening shades or curtains, or invest in a sleep mask. The latter is very affordable and worth its weight in gold if you're one who needs it to be dark to stay asleep.

4. Don't take your phone, computer, tablet, etc. to bed with you at night. For some reason, when you do, your mind stays tuned in to that device and you wake up to check it. Whatever it is, it'll wait, your sleep is important too.

Take care of you, get the right amount asleep, enjoy the comfort of a quality mattress, pull down the shades, ignore the electronics and put a little pep in your step when the a.m. arrives. That's what I do...and it works like a charm. :)

How do you ensure you get a good night's sleep so you can wake up rested, alert and happy?

  2. Don't take the phone, computer etc. because it is not just the mind, but Blue Light, makes your body think it is day time and releases chemicals or whatever in the body that keeps you lively instead of letting you fall asleep.

  3. Great tips! Easier said than done, though! We live RIGHT next to a major 8-lane highway. All night long - sirens, semis, motorcycles....OMG! I can't wear earplugs because I have yo hear if my old mom calls me in the night. 8 lanes of traffic.....you have no idea!

  9. Those are all great tips. I have trouble falling asleep at night and I used to take medication to help me get to sleep. A dark and quiet room helps me get to sleep faster.

  11. I turn off all electronics at least an hour before bed. I'm lucky that I sleep right through and don't usually wake up during the night.

  16. I can't stand light of any kind in the room. It has to be pitch black. I even cover up the alarm clock with a towel each night so no light peeps through. Otherwise, it drives me nuts and I can't sleep.
