Vacuums: Got a Favorite? Do Tell!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Finding the perfect vacuum, especially when you have white carpets, is really no easy task. When you've got people coming in and out a lot, and there's sand to boot, the need to find a good one increases tenfold. That's not to say there's not a spot by the front door for shoes, because in our house there is... but there are still many, many times people ignore that spot and walk right in just the same. Luckily, there is currently a large array of different vacuum cleaners on the market.

Researching ahead of time, to see what kind of vacuum works best for your needs, just makes good sense. If you're home is one that will have the tracks of winter grime coming in a good part of the year, you're going to want a heavy duty vacuum. If it's one that has a pool or is close to water (and if so, lucky you!), perhaps a wet-dry vac would be more your speed.

And if it's a low pile carpet that you have in your home, and you just want to run a vacuum over it daily, you might even look into a vacuum with no motor (my mom had one of those once and used it more than she used her upright).

Of course if you have kids or pets in the house, you're also going to want to consider a hand-held vac. Kids, pets and messes go hand-in-hand, so having a portable vacuum charged and at the ready is not a bad idea at all.

We currently have a traditional upright vacuum, but to be quite honest, it's not as strong as I'd like. A little more pull would be amazing, so I wouldn't have to go over the high traffic areas so many times to ensure that they were clean.

Of course too, there are other things to consider, like budget...warranty...and maybe even brand. I know some people have their favorites and nothing else will do (I can immediately think of two brands that have a huge loyal following, I'm sure there are others). I don't have a preferred brand, but I would like to try one of the more expensive vacs that are so well loved to see if they live up to the hype.

And then there's car vacs too. Let's not forget those. Think of how many times a day you are in and out of your car. Having a handy dandy car vacuum saves you the need to put quarters in a machine to get the job done. Simply have one on hand, maybe even one that charges in the car, and clean-up becomes a piece of cake (haha, maybe even literally).

How about you? Do you have brand loyalty towards any specific vaccuum? Or is there one type that you prefer over anything else? And if so, why?  And yes, I am having a riveting vacuum cleaner discussion today (after all, the vacuum is something we use almost every day). I do hope you'll chime in.

Oh, and happy vacuuming. :)

I will forever be loyal to Dyson. We bought a Kirby many years ago. It was big, bulky and weighted a ton. Not to mention was a pia it was to switch out attachments! That stupid vacuum was $1500 and I hated it. Not long after, we paid 1/3 less for a Dyson. I did a floor test. I went over the same carpet patch for about 5 minutes with the Kirby. Then I went over it again with my Dyson. I was shocked at how much dirt the Dyson sucked up that the Kirby didn't. 10 years later, my Dyson is still sucking up dirt like a pro!

Vacuum every day? I should, but I don't.
And I love my Dyson. When it dies I will replace it with another. They have brilliant suction, no nasty bags, and this one has been going for well over ten years.

I think the one I have is dyson, too lazy to get up and look lol, it does the trick, sucks up everything some slick.

We have a Dyson we use here.

I'm definitely a Hoover fan when it comes to vacuums! I love the one that was made for removing pet hair <3

Looks like there's a lot of Dyson fans! I have a Hoover and love it. I definitely don't use it as often as I probably should!

Yes, definitely a lot of Dyson fans here! I have a Shark Rocket. Paid a lot less for it than the price of a Dyson. It works great - I love it!

I had a Dyson and liked it but they are overpriced. Now I have a Shark and like it as much. It clogs a little easier, but is easier to get out clogs than a Dyson. More affordable and cleans great.

I'm a huge Dyson fan. They work just as well as the commercials say. I love mine!

I've always really wanted a dyson! But with all the moving, we're looking for lighter and smaller solutions so we don't have to have storage space for it.

I have no loyalty at all. My mom was loyal to Electrolux for her entire adult life. Dyson would be an excellent choice when current one breaks.

I have a bosh which I love but I have to get bags from the UK so once it dies we are switching to a Dyson.
I would love a central vac.

I have used several different brands in the past, but the Dyson is still unrivaled when it comes to vacuums. I consider it as the Ferrari of vacuum cleaners.

I bought a shark navigator about 6 months ago and it is amazing. I will never buy anything else now.

I would really love to have either a Dyson or a Shark. With a dog and three long -haired girls, we can kill a vaccuum pretty fast!

We have a Dyson and I love it. It's been losing it's suctioning power though so I have a feeling we'll be sending it in for repairs or buying a new one soon. :( With 3 dogs, 2 kids, and 1 incredibly messy husband, I'm vacuuming just about every day.

I'm not sure what brand vacuum we have, but the one we use downstairs has a wind up chord, which I totally love. Who wants to deal with the chord on a vacuum?

I have a Shark because I have RA and my wrists don't work too well. It's lighter weight than many others.

I really don't have a loyalty. The only vac I have is a car vacuum and it's been with me since forever.

My husband purchased a Kirby vacuum a couple years ago. Although it works well, it's extremely expensive. We paid over $1000 for it!
My favorite vacuum, which I use rather than the Kirby, is a Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Vacuum.

Can you believe that I do not have a vacuum in my home, I have a sizeable apartment but for some reason I choose not to buy a vacuum but if I was to buy for me it will have to be a dyson.

At the moment I'm using my mother-in-laws vaccuum here in Italy...and I love it! I don't remember the make but I don't think we have the same brand in Canada...unfortunately!

I really need a new vacuum and a heavy duty one--you would think that with just me and one cat it would be easy? No way---I really have to check out all these heavy duty ones.

Luckily in Estonia we always take off shoes when we are inside and so keeping carpets clean is easier :) What I have learnt is that the best way to clean carpets is using carpet washer.

I have no particular brand yet but this looks really durable. It would be great to invest in a good vaccum.

Any brand will work for me in terms of vacuums. As long as it can effectively do what it's made for, I will buy it.

I've always bought Hoover for affordability but I've been wanting to save up for a Dyson because of my pets. I heard they're quite amazing vacuums. Oooh, or a Roomba! :)

The Joys of Boys said...

I bought a Dyson a few years back and I absolutely love it. We try to take our shoes off in the house and I try really hard to keep it clean, but I have 4 boys, so a good vaccuum is a must.

I don't have a favorite vacuum although I am a fan of any of them that someone else is pushing :)

CourtneyLynne said...

Ahhhh i am going to say dyson here since that is why's I have but in reality I'm probably clueless on this topic.... I bought that vacuum that looked pretty lol....

I want a roomba (so you can just turn it on and let it do the work!)
But I also want the one I saw on tv the other day with an attachment to clean ceiling fans. other than that, I have no clue :)

I have three vacuums ( an older one upstairs, a Dyson for the main living areas, and a shop vac in the basement) and my favorite is the Dyson. When I first got it eight years ago i couldn't believe how well it performed compared to my old vacuum!
