Pepper Spray for Safety at Work: The Home Security Super Store

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

The Home Security Super Store is helping to keep my husband safe at work.

You wouldn’t think there were that many perils of being a mailman, and for the most part you would be right. There are, however, some instances where safety decidedly comes into question. That means it is a good idea for people in such a position to be prepared for the ‘just in case.’

One example I have to offer came in the form of a big dog my husband, a mailman for the last 20+ years, ran into the day-before-yesterday. Because the weather is getting warmer, people are leaving their doors open, cracking their windows and using their screens. Most people know that dogs aren’t overly fond of the mailman, probably because that’s someone they don’t know coming right onto their turf.

When hubs went to reach into the mailbox at the house where the aforementioned pet lived, the massively huge dog ran to the door, and because it was the lightweight screen door, had his head sticking out, teeth bared and a vicious bark going…trying presumably to eat my husband. Fortunately, there was no harm done. My husband offered him a doggie treat, something he keeps in his pockets at all times, and all was well…at least long enough for my husband to retreat safely off of the porch.

One of many types of pepper spray available on the website.

While we laugh at some of the instances he comes across with the dogs, they are not all funny, and many a mail carrier has been bitten. That means that although it is not something mailmen want to do, using pepper spray is something they will do, if they have to, in order to buy them the time they need to get to safety if a dog is surely going to bite.  Of course animals are not the only safety concern mailmen/women come across, so carrying the pepper spray is always a good idea anyway.

The Home Security Super Store carries a variety of types, sizes and styles of pepper spray, as well as many other non-lethal items that could be used for safety and/or protection. It is truly a one-stop shop for home security solutions and self-defense needs. Take a look around their website and you will see that they have a huge selection of DIY home security & personal safety product, with a low-price guarantee.

You can learn more about The Home Security Super Store by visiting their website (http://www.thehomesecuritysuperstore.com). You can also follow them on Facebook here and/or Twitter here.

There are many instances I can think of, besides the one I’ve given, where safety protection would have been in order. Walking the bike trail, early morning hikes at the lake, trips to the park when it’s getting dark, and shopping in the wee hours of the morning (which I sometimes do at the 24-hour super store) are all things that come to mind for just me alone.  I’m sure if I thought for a second or two, there would be others.

How about you? Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you could have used, or did have something along with you for safety purposes?

  1. I was frightened to death when we moved from Canada to the USA. My husband ended up buying me some pepper spray, and it's especially helpful if I'm ever out in the dark by myself - at least i have some sense of security.

  6. Oh poor hubby - big doggies can be scary! I am not sure what pepper spray is - I don't know if it is allowed her in the UK x

  7. I have also been bitten by a dog before when running (and chased by many more dogs!) I didn't get hurt, because the dog bit my shoe, thankfully. I have been chased by many more dogs, though. I usually try to find a big stick on the side of the road and act threatening if I really have to. They can be scary. Pepper spray would probably be a better solution.

  10. Pepper spray (the one law enforcement uses) is awesome. You have to go through training and have it used on you so you know what the results are when you use it on someone else. Wow, it just shuts you down. You aren't thinking about doing anything but breathing and opening your eyes. Powerful stuff. I understand over the counter stuff isn't as powerful, but still works. It's the getting away that's the important part.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  36. I could not imagine being a mailman nowadays – because of the dog factor. I remember when my lab/Chow mix was a puppy, our mailman came up to him with treats to get acquainted with him. I thought that was the nicest (and smartest) thing to do. Usually, I wouldn't let anyone do that, but we liked our mailman – he was really considerate!
