What's Coming to the Wharton?

Disclosure: I did not receive compensation to promote this post. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

There are lots of great shows coming to the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing, MI. Two of them are mentioned below, but be sure to check out their website as well, to see what other great entertainment is on its way!

Showing February 13-15, 2015

The Wharton Center is a wonderful venue for live entertainment. We recently attended a show there, and the layout, set-up, acoustics, spacious seats and parking...not to mention the fantastic line-up of shows that are coming, will definitely keep us going back for more. Check out the website to learn more, and I am happy to tell you about two of the shows right now. :)

The first one I'm excited about is, "I Love Lucy!" Did you grow up watching Lucy? We surely did, and so many years later, I still think those shows are still hilarious. How fun would it be to see the show live?! This one is coming right around Valentine's Day too...so if you're looking for a unique gift for that day, this could definitely be it!

EAST LANSING, Mich. ― The 2014-2015 national tour of I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE, the hit stage show adapted from the most beloved program in television history, is coming to Wharton Center on February 13-15, 2015. The production, which began with extended sit-down productions in Los Angeles and Chicago, quickly became an audience favorite and hit the road. Tickets to see of I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE, part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Broadway at Wharton Center Series, are available at the official source to purchase Wharton Center tickets online, whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

Thea Brooks and Euriamis Losada lead the company as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, with Kevin Remington and Lori Hammel playing Fred and Ethel Mertz, the Ricardo’s loveable landlords and sidekicks. The cast also includes Sara Jayne Blackmore, Sarah Elizabeth Combs, Gregory Franklin, Jody Madaras, Carlos Martin, Denise Moses, Cindy Sciacca, Kami Seymour, Richard Strimer and Mark Christopher Tracy.

An “out-of-body experience for ‘Lucy’ fans” according to Showbiz Chicago, I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE takes audiences back to 1952 as members of the Desilu Playhouse studio audience where they await the filming of two hilarious and oh-so-familiar I LOVE LUCY® episodes, “The Benefit” and “Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined.” A charming host entertains and enlightens the crowd to the behind-the-scenes filming process of a brand new thing called “television,” the Crystaltone Singers perform advertising jingles in perfect 50s style harmony and the sidesplitting antics of America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel – are presented live on stage and in color for the very first time! It’s a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience TV Guide’s William Keck calls “the most entertaining stage production I’ve seen in years – including Broadway!”

February 11-12, 2015!
This is an interesting concept for a show!

The second show to put on your radar if you're in the neighborhood is Walnut Street Theatre: A Life in the Theatre. This show is new to me, but I watched the trailer and I like the concept. It's an interesting way to offer a behind-the scenes look at theatre.

EAST LANSING, Mich. ― To become as time-honored and established as WALNUT STREET THEATRE is no easy feat. The theatre, which boasts over 200 years of operation as the oldest theatre in America, has seen its fair share of history through the bright lights that shine down on their world-renowned stage. WALNUT STREET THEATRE will continue their historic legacy when they appear as part of the Theatre Series at Wharton Center. Tickets to see WALNUT STREET THEATRE are available at the official source to purchase Wharton Center tickets online, whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

WALNUT STREET THEATRE will pump new life into David Mamet’s hit show, A Life in the Theatre, when they grace the Wharton Center stage this February. The play, which chronicles the struggle of an older, veteran actor and a newcomer on the scene, mirrors the same pulsing rhythm and quick dialogue of Mamet’s other hits, Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the-Plow. From rehearsals to reprisals, from ego trips to acting tips, this comedic performance will speak volumes on the themes of generational differences and the nasty draw of the spotlight. Though the language may not be suitable for children under 15, the portrayals by the two actors will resonate through the bright comedy and quick-witted writing that has become a staple of Mamet’s professional repertoire.

The history surrounding WALNUT STREET THEATRE has definitely been legendary. From trial runs of a Streetcar Named Desire with Marlon Brando, to molding future stars like Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Lauren Bacall, and Robert Redford, WALNUT STREET THEATRE has kept the flames of theatre burning for almost 200 years. This profound theatrical history will continue when A Life in the Theatre takes the stage in East Lansing, creating a one-of-a-kind, can’t-be-missed experience.
