Hasta la Vista to Dirt, Bacteria and Carpet Grime!

I found this infographic to be a tad bit disturbing. The walkway at our front door (just past the tile entry) is getting so downtrodden from winter traffic that I can't help but wonder if it is a culprit for the grime mentioned therewithin.

We vacuum daily but only have the carpets cleaned professionally once a year (right after winter packs up for the season and leaves). If you have carpeting, how often do you have yours done? Will this change your mind on how you look at/care for your carpet?

  1. Woah, this was definitely eye opening. We only have carpet in our basement (but we recently had to have it removed due to a flooding last Spring.) We only had it professionally cleaned maybe twice within a ten year period (I know, so bad.) We are looking to put new carpeting down there and are definitely going to take better care of it <3

  2. We got rid of our carpets recently as we opted for laminate and when the carpets were removed you had to see all the soot and dust that came up with it. Definitely eye opening for sure.

  3. Our entire first floor is hard wood, but upstairs we have off white carpeting. Trust me, I didn't choose it - it was already installed when we bought the house.

  4. Great infographic! Will refer to when I finally get around to cleaning the rugs: a must to get rid of dust mites!

  5. We have our own cleaner and hubby does the rug in sections. High traffic areas are done more often. It's a maze of ugly if they aren't cleaned often. Vacuuming is essential too.

    Have a great day. ☺

  7. Wow, this inforgraphic is beyond disturbing! We ripped out all the carpeting in our house after we purchased it in August and laid down hardwood. I have never been happier about that decision than I am right this very second lol!

  8. OK...This infographic is reinforcing my decision to get rid of our carpeting as soon as we can. EW! We usually vacuum twice a day, but still...

  11. We don't have carpets anymore, but when we did, I'd pour baking soda on all of them about once a week before I left for work. If it was Springtime, I'd leave the windows open too. When I got home, the place always smelled so much fresher, and I'd just vacuum up all the baking soda.

  18. This is awesome! We have carpet upstairs and our vacuum cleaner is broken PLUS we have only had our carpet cleaned once... because our water heater burst. I don't even want to think about what's in their carpets!!

  19. Terrifying, and I'm such a slacker about vacuuming! What makes it worse is pets, and I have two of 'em!

  22. Great infographic, particularly the part about how to clean various stains! I haven't lived in a place with carpet for a little while now (all hardwood! Which is easy to keep clean, but not as comfy), but I can appreciate all the tidbits shared. Thanks!

  25. I've always thought that was how carpets were. That is why I don't want shoes in my home.
and I really want them cleaned again.
And I want them gone from the house!
    Thanks for sharing.
