I have posted about building things with my kids before. It's something all of us like to do, from us parents to our teen, and right down to our little guy. There's something very satisfying about working hands-on with projects, and that's especially true when you're creating and learning with others.

The eitech Train with Rail Car Construction Set
Eitech makes these great stainless steel building kits (there are quite a few to choose from on their website, and several on Amazon) that encourage experimenting, and teach children hands-on motor skills, basic STEM skills, and the importance of following instructions.
All of the pieces in each kit are interchangeable with the other kits, so you once you've created your intended masterpiece, you can move on and create you own ideas from scratch. There is an instruction sheet included with each kit that labels parts by photo, size, and name (so you can mix pieces up and not have to worry about remembering which pieces go to which kit).
|We created the eitech Trail Bike kit|
We have two kits, and opted to create the eitech Trail Bike Kit first because it is the smaller of the two.

and organized by type
These kits are the real deal. There's no putting them together in a few minutes flat and moving on to the next thing you want to do. They vary in size, but even the smallest one, as seen here, has quite a few parts that have to be put together from scratch.
|The eitech kits are no joke. |
You invest time and energy into these & it's a wonderful thing!
You're investing your time and energy into these, and it can be a little time-consuming. That's okay, we like time-consuming for projects like these.

He is securing a handle bar to the bike.
The satisfaction the kids (and parents!) get from watching pieces of stainless steel form into something really cool, is a great transformation to see take place.

Once you've worked through the process and your masterpiece is complete, you really get a nice sense of accomplishment.

The only word of caution I have, is that it's so fun for parents to be involved, that you might temporarily forget your child is loving this project too. Don't overstep and build for your child, but rather be the guide. Allowing them ownership of the process will instill confidence in them, and leave them (and you) smiling ear to ear, once the project is complete.
There are many types and styles of kits to see, and I've linked some of them below:
