Is Summer Slipping Through Your Fingers?

It seems like summer is slipping right through our fingers.

I guess because school got out so late this year, and the weather hasn't been hot (we're in jackets a good part of the time, which is unheard of this time of year) things seem 'off' like summer hasn't really arrived yet. In reality, summer is half way over.

We're making the most of our time, but it's unstructured time this year. It's the first summer we haven't had a bunch of plans, and we're sticking close to home.

To add to that, our church schedule has changed for the summer (even the service times are different), there are no Sunday School activities for the kids, and they quit hosting Vacation Bible School, so that feels 'off' too.

My daughter is in Florida, and it's weird not having her here (I don't like it). It feels like something is missing, but in reality it's someone who is missing. Her brother notices her absence too. Again, I repeat I don't like it. I miss my baby girl in the house, teen attitude and all. ;)

I don't know what I'm saying, I guess I'm just saying it's an odd summer, and summer's are usually so predictable (I like predictable).

I've stepped out of my comfort zone and have a huge interview today. I haven't been in a traditional work place for almost 7 years (once uheard of too since I've worked my whole life). It feels exciting, but odd. I guess it's just the summer of change. Change is good, I know...without it things would get stagnate, but so many subtle changes at the same time feels strange.

In any case, wishing you a happy Friday, and a happy rest of the summer. I hope you're making the very most of it. Even though it's 'different' for us this year, I still know to make the most of every moment, and it's still my favorite season of the year.

  1. It's been a rather 'dissonant' summer here as well, it just feels off for some reason. I'm really not looking forward to the coming winter either, based on this summer. At the same time, there have been some oddly hopeful moments as well... Okay, this is me shaking off this mood, lol.
I have no doubt you'll blow them away (in a good way) at the interview Rosey!

  2. Good luck with the interview, yuck to traditional workplaces though haha true change has to come due. But a ton of change can throw one for a loop

  3. Good luck on the interview!!!

I feel like the summer is going pretty well here. I kind of get ready for school to start for the boy's sake. They do better with routine.

  4. Wishing you tons of luck today on the interview. And same here with the summer being a bit strange and definitely going too quickly for my taste.

  6. The truth is that we don't really like change. We like what is familiar. We accept change. Occasionally, if it is something exciting and we really want it to happen, we embrace change. Sounds like you just have a few too many things changing at once and it has upset your equilibrium.

  8. It does seem to be flying by his year

  9. I feel the same way. We had a short summer this year as it is because we got out super late due to snow days and our town is going back BEFORE Labor Day for the first time ever - so the kids are starting back in August which is unheard of!

  10. Our summer has been kind of weird this year, too. Since this is our first year of homeschooling, we are doing more school stuff this summer than we have in the past. We have Elliott's friends over a lot, too, though. So we don't have a great routine going yet, but hopefully will when everyone else goes back to school. :) We got out of school before Memorial Day Weekend here, so we've been on summer break for a while.

It's been weird for our family, too, because instead of taking our vacation during the summer, we are waiting and going in November.

  12. Well, that's unfortunate about your weather. It's been rather hot and sticky here, and I am no fan of the humidity. I'll send some of our nice summer weather your way! We've had some beautiful days like today too. Low 80ies no humidity. Yes, hard to believe the summer is half over. We are looking forward to our week in Maine. After that it will really be coming to a close. Also, best of luck on your interview!

  13. As your kids get older summers will change even more. You'll come to love them or at least embrace them.

    Good luck on your interview.

Have a blessed day and weekend. ☺

  15. Good luck with your interview!!! Sounds like some exciting changes are in store for you. I agree about it being a strange summer. My girls have been crazy busy with Girl Scouts and camps and family camping and swim team that I feel I've been running non-stop. I think August will slow down a bit. I hope. :)

  16. The cold weather is especially odd. I wish my summer were only half way over. I have one week left before returning to teaching. :(

  17. Summer is my least favourite time of year. We are in the midst of winter here - and I am revelling in it.
I hope your summer warms up for you and slows down - but know you will enjoy it anyway.

  18. I hope your interview went well. I've been gone for a traditional job that long as well. I wish the interview process could be skipped to get back into the workforce. I know it's not August yet but just today I said, "Dang it's almost August." Seems to be going fast for us because we've hardly been home.

  19. It's been a cool and late summer here, too. More like an extended spring. Good luck with your interview.

  20. Sorry it's an odd summer. Bummer your church doesn't do VBS anymore.

  21. I have had this feeling too. We busted out jackets twice last week. We've never done that in July before. We didn't make plans since we are going to Disney in the fall. We cancelled Allison's gymnastics for the summer, so we have been feeling summer is at a standstill too. It's definitely very weird!

    1. Crossing my fingers I make it to the next round for the interviews. I just saw your post about movies, and I was nodding in agreement the whole time. Nuh uh, no way, not for me either. :)

  23. I know what you mean. This summer is different, alright.

  24. Sounds like your summer is different this year and it's surprising that you're not experiencing summer heat yet. Here in Florida it's been hot and rainy, which makes for a really sultry, muggy summer but, yes, though it's been hot, my summer has been speeding by at warp speed. I keep telling my hubby that time is going faster and faster, not because we're growing older but because our Earth is spinning around the sun faster - I'm sure the years must be weeks shorter by now.

Wishing you the best of luck on your interviews.

  27. I hope your interview goes/went well and that you get what you were trying for. :)
As far as the summer? I agree: it's different. In addition to my Spanish teaching responsibilities, I'm now working in admin. That means I work all summer.
That's fine...just different and I secretly want more time for my own blog. :D
All in its own time, right? Haha.

    1. Happy to see you out and about!! I'm a lifelong adminer too. ;) Hope you're not feeling that faculty/admin fault line that pops up from time to time. ;)

And yes! All in its own time. :)

  28. I'm having a quieter summer, not all that predictable, but not too much out of whack. I hope all went well with your interview! I got a chuckle about missing your teen daughter, teen attitude and all!

  29. I have been feeling the same way about this summer... it took a long time to get here and it really didn't get her full out yet... Hopefully soon as you are right it is almost half way over.

I am not one to like change but it does end up being good for us in the long run... have a great week ahead :)

  30. I can't even think about summer ending! We have been having such a great relaxed season. How did the interview go?

    1. I don't know yet. Crossing my fingers I get to round two, they're still doing interviews for round #1 this week. :)

  31. First I hope you smashed the interview and if not well at least you get experience in that process again. I hope the family is back together soon, Jules is away for a couple of weeks and the house doesn't feel the same. Hope you get some more heat before fall, I know I am looking forward to winter ending!
