Wordless Wed. in the Sandbox

Every single time we go to the park kids run over to the sandbox.
Parents always give them an emphatic, 'No!'
I guess it's a dying art?

  1. I hope it isn't. I really, really hope it isn't. Sandcastles, sandforts and grubby play are the foundations of a happy childhood.

  2. I think sandboxes are fun for children, I always encourage my daughter to play in them when she could, that and I always made sure she had rain boots to splash in the rain. Children need to stay children for as long as possible :)

  3. I hate when my kids go the sandbox, too. I hate the mess and that the sand always ends up getting tracked inside the house.

  4. Hi Rosie - enjoy while he's still doing it .. he looks happy as a sand-boy! Cheers Hilary

  6. What?? I love playing in the sandbox! Those parents need to remember that they were kids once too :)

  7. Yup, not a fan of that damn sandbox either and my kids pre-school last year used sand as the ground covering for the whole damn playground. Needless to say, we changed schools this year and so not going to miss that part of the playground to be honest!

  8. My son could play in one for hours!

  9. I love to build sand castles even as a mummy! My children love it to bits... it will never go away for us! no!

  10. lol they just jump right in. The cat can get behind that.

  11. I always loved sandboxes, and so did the kidling, and I never minded the mess... I think a problem a lot of parents have is that the cats often use them, not to mention the bugs!
Cinnamon and balls of aluminum foil solve the problems; cinnamon for the bugs (especially ants) and no cat I've ever known liked aluminum. Connelly runs and hides just at the sound of it!

  12. I have so many memories of playing in sandboxes.

  13. Yeah, that's unfortunate! An outdoor activity like that? It's perfect for kids and they should play in the sand to their heart's content!

  14. My kids love the sand pit but I have to admit I hate the amount they bring home in their shoes and hair, still isn't sand play part of being a kid

  15. It's not a dying art, but we personally HATE the mess. I'd rather the water table any day.

  16. i love the sandbox...its a great excuse to get dirty...and build castles...smiles.

  18. When my son was little he loved the sandbox too. I guess it's a kids thing.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  19. Isaak loves the sandbox. I can see why parents don't like it. They get so dirty. He used to make fake fires in the sandbox last year. He'd dig a hole in the sad, then set sicks up on top to look like he was gearing up for a fire.

  20. Isnt it funny how that works, They love it.

  21. It's nice to see you not saying "no" and letting kids be kids! I would much rather my child be covered in sand, outdoors than being clean but sitting inside using an iPad!

  22. playing in sand or dirt is one of natures toys! I still play in the dirt, only now they call is gardening ;)

  29. Sandboxes are so much fun! I used to pretend that I was hosting my own cooking show as I made delicious concoctions out of sand and plant leaves, haha. I guess parents see a sandbox and then immediately see little particles of sand all over their house! That's not fun!

  30. I need a sandbox moment to let go off some stress. Oh to be a kid again

  31. Whoever invented the sandbox knew what he was doing.

  32. My son loves to dig in the dirt or sand! It seems to be a "boy thing".

  33. I let Elliott play in the sand whenever he wants to, as long as we aren't getting ready to go somewhere where that would be a problem. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. My daughter loves the sandbox and I had to eventually buy her one of her own. I guess parents have forgotten there is such a thing called wipes, hand sanitizer, soap and water. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wonder why they say no. I don't see the problem as long they looked clean, they're fun. - Jenn @ The Rebel Chick

  36. My kids love the sandbox!! I figure I can just shake them out when they are done and let them have fun. They are kids and they are suppose to dig and explore so they can learn!

    ReplyDelete
  37. i love that you let your son get in the sand and have fun!! "let them be messy" i always say! they're kids! :)
i can't wait for piper to experience sand...she's been on the beach, but was much younger. i have a feeling a lot will be going in her mouth! :)
hope you're having a relaxing night, rosey! xoxox

  38. I really can understand why some parents don't like their children to play in the sandbox. For one it's messy and two, you never know what's in it until you dig and dig. This concern is valid, but I think kids should also be kids. Sandboxes are very great instrument to help you be creative and even talented. :)

  39. Oh I can remember those days in my sand box at my grandma's home right next door. It was the best. Still to this day I love to sculpt at any beach I get to go to. Volleyball is to strenuous. Give me the sculpting of anything in the sand and I am a happy gal. I am so anxious to be in California for December this year, my heart needs the beach. Thanks for your sweet comments, Rosie. They are always so nice. ♥

  41. What a great moment captured! I so want a sand box :) It would surely help with the mud addicted son I have here.. ugh!

  42. We do not have a sandbox at our local park. I think it depends on if we are going somewhere after the park and if the sand is wet or not.

    ReplyDelete
  43. My kids both love the sandbox. Most of the parks here have sand all over. They are in heaven. Probably because they don't have to clean themselves!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I understand why. Sand is not a favorite thing of mine. I much prefer a pool to the beach. However, i did let my kids play in the sandbox all they wanted.Great fun!

    ReplyDelete
  45. My kids love sand but to be honest the ones in parks are not exactly somewhere i want my kids playing in people let their dogs do their business in there i saw it one time and have refused to let the kids play in any since.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It might be.
I haven't seen any of those here...

  47. Kids truly love sand! You should try kinetic sand. It's no-mess sand and kids can play with it inside. It's very therapeutic too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. He certainly looks like he's having a good time! My kids get so sandy when they play

    ReplyDelete
  49. We used to make sandcastles, and would add water for rivers.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My son loves the sandbox at home. I'm a little iffy on sandboxes at the par since they can't cover them. We always do a quick look through first!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love to play in the sand myself! :) I do get onto the rugrats when they start throwing it at each other

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was that kid who stayed playing in the dirt! I don't know what about the dirt but I was always in it, its a kiddie thing!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't see anything wrong with letting them play in the sandbox. Kids are made to get dirty!

    ReplyDelete
  54. We are building a sandbox under our swing this summer. I think as long as they "dry" the sand just gets knocked right off.

    ReplyDelete
  55. We have a sandbox with no sand, I need to get some!

    ReplyDelete
  56. What a wonderful way to spend a summer day! My son always loved playing in his sand box.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Isn't it funny how as a child you didn't care how dirty you got? Now I look at a sandbox and think: SHOWER! I'd give anything to go back to being careless! Aw, childhood.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sand is the best! Kids need to get dirty and explore. I hope it's not dying either!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I hate the mess of the sandbox, but I know how important it is to let them play. Mostly I just want to not think about what teen peed in it, or animal, or the likes. Such a cute picture. For the record - even with all my worries - my kids still play in the sandbox

    ReplyDelete
  60. I can definitely see the appeal. I love it myself...not a sandbox itself, but I love digging my feet and hands in sand. The texture is therapeutic. I could understand why parents wont want their kids playing in it...it's unfortunate as it makes for such great play.

  61. My kids loved the sandbox as toddlers. Why they still love them today!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Our play grounds don't have sandboxes here LOL. We live by the beach so I think the playground designers figure they have a big enough sandbox already :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Our playgrounds hardly have sand either. Mostly padded flooring. Ahhh those were the days!

  64. Aw sandboxes are part of the fun of being a kid! Looks like he's having a blast!

  65. Sandboxes are so much fun!!
Every little boy and girl should have a weekly adventure with or in a Sandbox.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I used to love the sandbox! It is messy though, but baby powder will help the sand come off.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Playing in the sandbox is one of the simple joys kids enjoy. I can't understand it. I just clean up the mess after. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  68. I love letting my kids play in the sandbox I mean I know they are gonna get dirt in their hair and in their nails but hey they are kids after all right!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Growing up my next door neighbors had one boy, and he wasn't allowed to get dirty. I remember as kids how we felt sorry for him. Unless they are going to meet with the Queen after going to the park, why not get a little messy - that's part of the fun, being carefree!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. My boys loved the sandbox when they were little! I hope it's not dying either!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Playing with sand and building sand castles is part of growing up - some of us never grow up. :)
It is also an activity that promotes, imagination and creativity. So the kids end up with sand in their shoes (and clothes and hair) but they love it and had fun. Who knows, perhaps someday they'll be creating some of those amazing sand sculptures that we marvel at in awe and we wonder; "Wow, how did they do that?"

    ReplyDelete
  72. My son loves the sandbox. I just strip him down before letting him back in the car or house.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I see nothing wrong with letting kids play in the sandbox. A little dirt never hurt!
