We are all big on good oral hygiene at my house. I've been very lucky that all four of my children have never given me a hard time about brushing or flossing. In fact, they have all gotten excited about helping me pick out toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.  They have also all, at some point, purchased a pack of Trident (who hasn't, right?).

Trident Gum is well known, as well it should be since they have been helping Americans to maintain good oral health hygiene for the last 50 years! The first national sugar-free gum in the US, Trident has offered a way to help with oral benefits when life has kept you on the move, and it has been shown to help fight cavities as well!

This year, Trident is celebrating their 10-year partnership with Oral Health America’s Smiles Across Americprogram (SAA), which provides oral disease prevention services for at-risk children due to poverty.

    • In 2004, Trident provided funding to launch SAA, and to-date has donated more than $2.5 million to support the program, which has impacted more than 2,000,000 children.

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and Trident wants to share oral health tips* to keep the pearly whites of those young people (and young at heart) healthy and happy all year long.
    • Brush 2Min (2X) – It’s best for kids to brush their teeth for 2 minutes, 2 times a day for healthier teeth, good breath and fewer cavities.
      • Children 2 or older should always use fluoride toothpaste.

o    Visit a Dentist – Kids and parents should visit a dentist regularly starting no later than age one (1).

o    Floss – Kids should clean between their teeth once a day with floss to remove plaque and food where a brush can’t reach.
-  Children as young as age (2) can floss if their teeth are touching.

o    Fluoride – Fluoride is nature’s cavity fighter and can occur naturally in some water and food sources. Did you know that to help protect teeth from cavities fluoride is added to dental products like toothpaste?

o    Chew Sugar-Free Gum – Chewing sugar-free gum, like Trident, helps keep teeth clean after eating and between brushing. In fact, chewing Trident sugar-free gum after eating stimulates saliva flow, which helps reduce the risk of cavities by reducing plaque acids, removing debris and strengthening teeth.

When I was growing up we didn't go to the dentist. I never went until after I was an adult. Not a good thing either. Love this post.

Have a fabulous day. :)

This is one of those things that I always have with me. I love Trident gum. Can't leave home without it. :)

I remember when Trident came out withthe slogan of thier gum making your teeth white. That was umpteen years ago, and I started buying it cause of that lol lol. My kids teeth were all good when they were home, but after growing up and moving out, hmmmmmm its like, moms not here anymore so I dont have to brush. LOL Only problem is they learned the hard way :(

Fluoride a good thing hahaha riiight! But yeah good oral hygiene is a must indeed

Chasity said...

We don't chew gum but thanks for the info

Shannon Wijnker said...

My daughter is two and we still use non-flouride toothpaste. She doesn't understand that she's not allowed to swallow her toothpaste yet. There is enough fluoride in the water that we drink - that when we go to the dentist, I request to NOT have the fluoride treatment. This has worked for me - no cavities for me or my kids.

BrettBMartin said...

we're sugar free gum chewers here :) I pay my kids or trade them for sugar gum if someone gives it to them.

Great tips! It's very important to instill dental habits from a very early age, so they become habitual. It's sometimes hard to persuade my little ones to brush, floss, and rinse, but I try!

We chew a lot of sugarless gum. Trident is one of my favorites, but recently we were told that even some gums have gluten. Turns out some of them have a starch that is derived from wheat. I did learn though that Trident is gluten free!!! http://www.tridentgum.com/textonly/faq
