Gluten-Free with Canyon Bakehouse (review and giveaway)

Disclosure: I received product samples to help facilitate the review. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

Canyon Bakehouse, located in Loveland, Colorado, is a bakery dedicated to making Gluten-Free bread that has the consistency of traditional bread, and tastes delicious. The website touts the following features of their freshly baked items:

  • Certified Gluten Free
  • Made in a dedicated Gluten Free Bakery
  • Dairy, Nut, & Soy Free (if egg is present, it is clearly noted)
  • GMO-Free

I hear about Gluten-Free all of the time, and I have been more than just a little curious to learn more about it. One thing that seems consistent, through my non-direct affiliation with it, is that it's hard to find Gluten-free items that appeal to those who don't have to eat it. Canyon Bakehouse is on a mission to make that no longer true.

Regular multi-grain bread on the left.
Canyon Bakehouse 7-Grain Gluten Free Bread on the right.
We were sent a box of Canyon Bakehouse items to try.  I was curious to get started right away, so the next morning I made my way to the 7-grain bread to toast up a hearty breakfast. In the house we also had a loaf of multi-grain bread, so I took a slice out to compare the two. They looked the same to me, but there were a couple of differences.

With the 7-Grain Gluten-Free bread, you can actually see and taste the grains. I liked that, a lot. The textures between the two were very similar, though the Gluten-Free was a bit more spongy...just a tad, and it did not deter from the flavor. My husband had 7-grain toast with his breakfast later that morning, and he said the same thing.  The gluten free bread took longer to toast too, which Ann from Foodie in WV (she has a lot of Gluten free recipes that look soooo good over at her place) assured me in an impromptu discussion we just had, is not out of the ordinary.

While you could tell the difference between the traditional loaf of bread we buy that has Gluten, and the Canyon Bakehouse loaf that was Gluten-free, both of us agreed that the Gluten-Free selection was not all that distinguishable from the bread we already had in the house. It was my first experience with anything baked intentionally Gluten-Free, and I'm glad I had it.

I found out that I can get this bread at Target in Norman, and I will share this with my granddaughters who have gluten problems. Thank you for sharing this review

Not a shred of gluten goes into my body, I enjoy standing too much haha

Sounds quite good. Most gluten free breads are quite dense.

I have not tried to not eat gluten.. but this makes it sounds good and easy..

I learned they are all gmo free and kosher!

Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering about this. I really want to try the gluten free foods side by side.

I do eat some gluten free, but I don't see much of a difference at all.

Heather Jones said...

I'm always trying gluten free things because my friends are gluten free, and the just don't appeal to me all the time. So I love that they are trying to make products many will enjoy.

DWei said...

I'm going to pass. I'm trying to avoid bread because it's way too filling and doesn't give enough calories for my liking.

Can't wait to try it out - thanks for sharing!

hey i swear by gluten free....a kid i used to work with ...major behavior problems....put him on gluten free and it cleared him up....seriously...

Manzanita said...

Sounds good, looks good so it must be good. Ha I usually eat sprouted grain bread but I love bread and often yearn for some good old fashioned white bread with butter piled on top. Warm is even better and when the butter runs down your fingers.
I'll look it up. thanks.

Cranberry crunch muffin? Sign me up! We are not Gluten free in our house, but I would definitely try their products.

My brother has to stay off gluten. I will have to tell him about this company.

This is the first I have seen a GF bread that is multigrain, I will definitely look for this at the store (or online). It is so hard to find good GF breads but I love that things are getting better and easier to find.

Kristi Maloney said...

This bread looks like a great gluten-free option. I've tried a few gluten- free things in the past. Gluten-free bread is hard to "get right". Sounds like this one is a winner. I would try it for sure.

Ashley B. said...

I've not yet tried Gluten Free baked goods. I have always been curious about how they taste though. I don't think any gluten free bread would be a big hit with my kids and Husband, but I would certainly give it a try!

Kenneth Clutario Agudo said...

That bread looks nutritious and very fluffy. Does it taste good?

I like their recipe: Spinach Quinoa Salad with Caraway Croutons

I may have to try it.

mail4rosey said...

I'd like to try sprouted grain bread too, and warm bread?? Yep, I'm all in with warm bread too. :)

mail4rosey said...

That's what I was thinking too when I was trying these...that it's nice Gluten Free items are being made so thoughtfully now so that people enjoy them too (which I have heard previously was not always the norm).

mail4rosey said...

Me too, Robin, on the muffins. I thought that type sounded good too. I'm a sucker for anything w/cranberries in it.

mail4rosey said...

I believe you. :) It's nice when behavior fixes can be found so easily, and I've seen it before too (with other examples).

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Lisa. :)

mail4rosey said...

The 7-grain tasted good. The texture was a bit different, more dense/chewy, but still good! I really liked the actual oats/grains being detectable in the bread...that's a huge bonus for me in the taste department.

Aisha Kristine Chong said...

Now this is something I definitely would love to grab a bite on plus its gluten free!

I like that they have a recipe section! I have been wanting to try gluten free bread for a while, but I have been too chicken to try it, as I am a bread junkie. I really need to make the switch though, for health reasons.

When I attempted to be gluten free I had a hard time finding bread that wasn't absolutely awful! Since I am not currently trying a gluten free diet, I am going to pass on the giveaway to give those who really could use it and need it a chance to win. Still, best of luck everyone!

I have heard a lot about Gluten Free products and it might be the way we go at our house.

Ann Jones said...

I've tried a few of their products and they are pretty good. Thanks for the mention, I appreciate it :) Finding gluten free options that taste good can be a big struggle. My kids are finally to the point that they oftentimes prefer the gluten free bread and baked goods that I make, but it has taken a while for them to make the switch :)

Pam said...

We have had some bad luck with gluten free breads. This one sounds like it would be tasty. We will have to give it a try.

We have tried couple of gluten free breads and they have been really dry :( Have to try Canyon Bakehouse one. Thanks for the great review!

Christine D said...

I learned that their breads are all free from Gluten, All Nuts, Soy, Dairy, and Casein. That is really important to me, because most sandwich breads contain some form of dairy and my daughter is allergic.

mail4rosey said...

That probably makes meal time easier if everyone is enjoying the same foods. I'm a vegetarian, and I'm the only one who is in the house, so meal times are sometimes not so great for me as everyone else. ;)

Zulema Tomlinson said...

I entered. That d sandwich looks soooooo delicious. I'm very bad about eating breads. It's good to know there's healthy choices out there.

Gluten free foods are becoming a fast growing trend. Our local store has a fairly healthy selection of gluten free items, both inexpensive and more costly items to meet just about any budget. I'm very grateful for that since gluten often is really bad for thyroid patients like myself.
