Wordless Wednesday: Road Closed

You can't get through to the library in town...the road is closed because they're taking down a building.

There are hazard signs posted all around it.  Besides the risk of falling objects...asbestos maybe?  The building's pretty old, so I'm guessing that's a factor.  It's pretty tight quarters in so far as how it's situated next to other buildings. Wonder how long it'll take to bring it down & clean it up.

  4. Hi Rosey, that is too bad about not being able to get to the library. The building being demolished is very close to the other building and looks ugly!
    Have a great day.

  5. I also think it's sad when buildings get knocked down but if asbestos is heavily involved it's probably best, keep a look out Miley Cyrus might turn up with her wrecking ball LOL :-)

Have a tanfastic rest of week

  6. Clean up will take a while for sure. But if it's asbestos it's good that it's coming down.

  7. I always hate to see old buildings being destroyed as there is usually some monstrousity modern building to take it's place. But old buildings are an expense to keep up and to heat so tear away. Yes, plenty close to the next building. Haha

  8. Wow, that is some building and just hope they get it down soon so you aren't inconvenienced to much more now, Rosey. Happy Wednesday :)

  9. Looks like it's going to be a while before this is gone. It's interesting to watch the progress though.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  11. what kind of building was it? I hate when old building get torn down... but then i hate when they let old buildings get all dilapidated... knowing they could have done something to help preserve it... there are some in my hometown that need to be torn down now because they are so bad... but there was once hope for it...

  12. It always makes me a little sad to see a building demolished, even when it should be

  13. It has to be done. Tearing down this old building because of hazardous materials. But, it always makes me sad to see the building go.

  14. They can get them down pretty quickly, be more fun watching it implode though lol

  15. Wow! I thought this was due to the snow recently! Come see my WW today. Thanks. gahome2mom

  16. It would have been cooler if they imploded it like they do to the old casinos in Vegas LOL.

  17. I wish they would take some of our old buildings down around here. Parts of our downtown are starting to look like Detroit! Hopefully they get it down soon so you can get back to the library!

    1. OH that statement pierced my heart. ;)

      Kidding...Detroit's a mess, and I know it.

  18. Yikes, that is close to other buildings! Seems like it would be hard to take it down safely. But I guess the workers know what they're doing haha :)

  19. If it had contained asbestos they would have had to remove the asbestos before tearing the building down; friable asbestos is bad news! They have to be heathens to have blocked your access to the library...bad demolition people, no cookies!

    1. That's good to know. Must just be potential flying hazards (and who wants to get hit with anything off of that building??? Not me). :)

School got out early today, so we did drive across town in the other direction today, to get our library fix. :)

  20. I bet it comes down a lot faster than they will be able to get it cleaned up. What a mess...

  21. I agree, sad to see a building come down...but my boys would probably love to watch the demolition! Boys! oy!

  22. Oh my goodness!! They are building a monstrous sky scraper not to far from my home and when ever I see it (and all those workers!) I get nervous!

  23. Wow I have never seen a building so large demolished, except on TV when they take them down in one blast, my son would love it. Are they taking this one down bit by bit? That must take months.

  24. Like Karen, I have never seen a building that big demolished. It must be an interesting process that would surely take a long time. As weeks/months go by, you should post more pics of the process. :)

  25. Oh mine, this reminds me very much of a building back home.

  26. Yikes! That looks like a danger zone.

We have a building here in Omaha that collapsed on people this week. Two people are dead from it. Many were hurt. It seems like lately there is something every week that happens in Omaha to hit national news. YIKES!

  27. It looks like that building needs to come down :) Hopefully things go back to normally soon so it's easier to get to the library!

  28. Oh wow. Sad to see stuff like that.

  29. kinda shows you how fast time is passing by

    ReplyDelete
  30. You definitely do not want asbestos floating around.. make sure its cleaned up quick!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would think a while. But sometimes they can be quite fast about such things.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Maybe they are using explosives for the building to take it down? Hmmm ... looks creepy old.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I suggest you stay away, there probably is asbestos and you don't want to inhale any of it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow, that looks so dangerous.

  35. hm, never seen it done but with asbestos hope it gets clean up quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That looks so dangerous, hope they clean it up FAST!

  37. Talk about dangerous!! Let's hope they don't take their time cleaning it up! Uncreative Mommy-Lena Blair

  38. I hope they get it down quickly so you can get to your library easily again. I love to watch how they bring down buildings like this one that are nestled in among other buildings. I find it fascinating how they can do that without damaging the buildings around it.

  39. I think it would be neat to watch from a distant a building crumbling down kinda of like in the movies, but I wouldn't want to be close to anyone doing these sorts of jobs. It amazes me that people on the street aren't hurt more often when these wrecking crews bring down a building. Be careful! Thanks for joining my WW linky party!

  40. Oh my goodness, that is a lot of destruction.

    ReplyDelete
  41. They are building/updating the library in our town too...It's so exciting and when we go to the diner, across the street from it we LOVE to watch the trucks and crews.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's inconvenient but at least they are taking down old buildings instead of waiting for them to just fall on their own as my government does. People got hurt this way.
Happy Wednesday Rosey :) Or Thursday now :)

  43. Wow! It's always sad when old buildings are torn down, but it must be quite a site to watch!

    ReplyDelete
  44. That might take a while. Hope you have an alternative route to the library. Be safe!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Wow those are some interesting pics! hope you have a wonderful week!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I wish Orillia would take down some of the building there are around town. But nope they just sit there for years abandoned.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That first pic is really interesting. Looks like the whole right side of the building is melting away.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That does look dangerous! Hope they will clean it up fast!
    Happy Friday, Rosey!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wouldn't mind watching it go down, but it does look dangerous. I'd love to know how they do stuff like that.
I suppose the need lots of dynamite!

  50. Once they start, it doesn't take very long to bring a building down and clean it up. We had a building torn down a few days ago that was downtown that was built in 1915. Unfortunately, it was damaged too far to be cost effective in renovating it and the city decided to remove it.
