It Was a Good Run!

We had a long overdue visit with friends tonight.  It was nice to get out for a bit. The San Diego game was on...and though no one really cared who won that particular game, with the Chargers now not in the playoffs, it looks like Whisenhunt is a top contender to come to the (Detroit) Lions. Hubby's got him 4th in line for a fave, but it's looking like he might be the Lion's favorite. We'll see this week.  I wouldn't want to come to Detroit to coach, just because it's cold, especially not if I previously lived in California, but that's just my way of thinking (says the gal who moved from Florida to Michigan, but never mind that...).

Hubby's name plate is attached on the other side as the winner for the last two years,
BUT, every winning streak must come to an end (dang it).

Hubby had to give up the Fantasy Football Trophy (winner keeps it until next season end).  He's been the winner for the last two years in the league but as lady luck would have it, lost his title this year...probably for getting a bit too cocky.  'They should just cut a slot in the back and stuff my money in it this year,' is what I think he said at the start of the season. Or something very similar. lolol  Not a lot of modesty there, let me tell you. ;)  He does almost always win or come very close to it though, and has for as long as I can remember. I'll give the props where they're due.

I NEVER have that kind of good luck with Fantasy Football, but I still think it's fun. One year that trophy might be mine.  Slow and steady, steady and slow, that's the way we always go. ;)   Anyone else play?  Have a good season this year?

Well, I am totally not trying to rub it in, but my Patriots moved on to the next round. And I am thinking they'll make it to the big game this year!

mail4rosey said...

Totally happy for you, THEY are having a good run, that's for sure!!!

Janine Huldie said...

I have no clue about anything football related, so there would be no way I would ever win at Fantasy Football!! :)

Stephen Tremp said...

I grew up in Michigan but have lived in Orange County since leaving high school. Still big Lions fan and hope Wisenhut takes the job and takes the Lions where they have the talent to go.

Yeah, its too cold for me to live there too. Visit, yes. Live, no.

Pride In Photos said...

I have always wanted to do this and my husband and I can't seem to find the right group we want to join.

mail4rosey said...

You might, I've seen people have that newbie luck when they first join in. :)

mail4rosey said...

Totally able to relate to the last one. Wonder if the announcement will come today?

mail4rosey said...

Start your own! :) I love your boots picture, so sweet! I bet those were a big hit too. Little ones LOVE boots!!

Pat Hatt said...

I've tried it 2 years and yeah, I suck, but I didn't come in last lol At least it will give him a goal to win again next year

mail4rosey said...

He does three or four a year. I can only keep up with one if I'm playing.

bxcrochet said...

Never have been into football. I am more of a baseball person. But one day I know you will get that trophy! :)

Impressed by your hubby winning two years in a row!
I would be the soccer queen though
Can't wait for the World Cup!

Optimistic Existentialist said...

Maybe he'll be able to start another winning streak next year :)

mail4rosey said...

Hubby does a baseball Fantasy League too, but that's too long and complicated for my tastes. I do like a live baseball game though. :)

mail4rosey said...

Gah, hubby wanted to get tickets to that so badly, but he wasn't drawn in the lotto for people who were allowed to purchase them. Man, those tickets went fast too, and so many people applied!!

mail4rosey said...

He's pretty darn good at it, wouldn't surprise me in the least. :) Maybe he'll be more modest next time though (yeah right!). ;) Thanks for the visit. :)

Britney Mills said...

I'm just excited the 49ers are still in it! I have never really understood Fantasy Football. Is it hard to learn?

Jennifer Clay said...

I have never played fantasy football...heck, I don't even watch football. LOL

mail4rosey said...

No, it's not hard at all, and it's fun. You just have to remember to change your players in time (before the games of the week, with your players in them, begin).

mail4rosey said...

I like it, but I so hope my youngest doesn't join football! My first two boys played, the second in the cold weather, and going to the games to watch was brutal (the players rarely seemed to mind, but I was frozen). :)

Sandee said...

I've not played either. Hubby and I are not sports fans so it just doesn't interest us. This weekend had a lot of TVs on and people were all huddled up in their boats. It was pretty amazing.

Have a fabulous day. :)

Shauna S said...

I never played fantasy football but it sounds like fun. I haven't watched football since High School with my dad. Hot wings and watching sports was fun,

mail4rosey said...

Yep, I can see it. Not the time of year you want to miss a game. :) Glad you had a fun weekend!

mail4rosey said...

Hot wings and football go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. :)

Melissa Pezza said...

My husband is out too! I want to do it next year! Go Pats!

Michelle Beaton said...

As a Pats fan I would have much rather played your team next week than Denver in the altitude!

Lame Shrill Owl said...

Wow! That is quite the trophy they have for Fantasy football. It's always fun to get together with friends!

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

I tried once had no clue what was happening .

Amanda Komoski said...

I'm not much of a football fan really and I hate all sports on tv but I love to be there live in action. The ambiance of the crowd going wild always seems to rub off on me.

AMBER EDWARDS said...

I'm so lost when it comes to Fantasy football. I'm not into sports much. But all my neighbors play it and it is a lot of fun to watch them get all excited about it. lol. That is an awesome trophy toO! So sad he had to give it back.

Kristi Maloney said...

I am not familiar with Fantasy Football. Congrats. to your hubs for winning so often...but yeah, can't win 'em all I guess. We are big Patriots fans here and are very excited for next Sunday's game! Go Pats! :)

Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell said...

Now maybe if he holds back next year, he'll regain his title. Either way though, that's darn impressive he captured it twice in a row!

Lawna Noe said...

I am not a fan of football at all BUT my hub is a huge football fan! Plus we have three little football fans. He won 2nd place in his fantasty football league this year which means he won $50. First place received $200~!

Jayne Townsley said...

I tried to play Fantasy Football one year and I just hated it.

Football I love, though! My Bears got a bad call from a ref for touching little darling Aaron Rogers (I guess they should surround him in bubble wrap) and lost. But, I #BelieveInMonsters and we'll be back next year!

tara pittman said...

Not into football but my 14 yr old and hubby are. They like the Bears

Maddi'sMommy said...

Neither my husband or I play but a few of our friends love it.

Mistee Dawn said...

Though I do not play fantasy football, we are football junkies. Seattle is my team! Hope they go all the way!

Anonymous said...

I've never played, but I've always thought it was a fun concept!

Elise said...

Sounds like your hubby jinxed himslef! lol Football terminology is all Greek to me, but I *have* heard of fantasy football.

Sarah-Louise Bailey said...

Sounds like he put his foot in it with the fantasy football league, do you have anything planned to fill its spot ;) xx

Pam said...

I know nothing about football, so I don't do Fantasy Football, but I've heard that it's fun. Maybe someday you will win instead of your husband! :)

Susan Kane said...

Whenever I watch the Chargers play, they always lose. Next time I will watch a show on quilting in the next room.

MikiHope said...

No, I do not play Fantasy Football-nor do I watch or keep up with Football or any sport for that matter. That was a lucky streak he had--2 years in a row--maybe your year is next year!!

Kristin Sumner said...

Don't know nothing about fantasy football nor regular football. Not my kind of sport. I'm a baseball kinda girl :)

Petro Neagu said...

I don't play, I wish I was but some sports are only made for certain people. What I do best is the sport called "bossing my husband around" :)

Chubskulit Rose said...

I don't understand how football works. Sorry to hear about your husband losing the title.

Holy Ghost Writer said...

Have never got into them

Casa Vilora Interiors said...

I don't know the first thing about football :-(

Growing Up Madison said...

When it comes to football I'm a total dud! I know nothing at all about football. Hubby does fantasy football and I can't understand that either but he enjoys it.

Ann Jones said...

My husband is really good at fantasy football also :) Me not so much!

becca said...

i have no clue about anything football related

Theresa said...

Tough loss for the hubs, but he definitely had a good run! We don't play fantasy football, but it does sound like a lot of fun!

Julie Maloney said...

Well you know me, I'm quite vocal about football. I started off great but I ended up in sixth place. Bah.

mail4rosey said...

It is very fun, I hope you join next year and love it. :)

mail4rosey said...

A Manning/Brady game. It doesn't get a lot better than that... I remember. ;)

mail4rosey said...

It is fun to get together w/friends. And the draft (where you do) is one of the best parts of FF. :)

mail4rosey said...

You've got bigger/better things going on over at your place!! Loved seeing the pic. of your Francie today. :)

mail4rosey said...

I'm not a big hockey fan, but the riled up crowds there get me going too. :)

mail4rosey said...

It will def. be missed. ;)

Anonymous said...

It is good for them to lose every now and then, especially when they do get a bit too cocky about it! I can remember all the people I worked with having the fantasy football. I think I can name maybe three teams total - I prefer to cook food for the people watching!

mail4rosey said...

I remember when Pats fans were laughed at...that is LONG AGO a thing of the past. Man, they're on a roll!!! :) GL!

mail4rosey said...

I loved your Tweet today. I'm totally sitting NEXT to hubby next year when I draft (kidding!). :)

mail4rosey said...

Placing is worth a victory dance. Big kudos to your hubs!! :)

mail4rosey said...

I wish I could say I didn't laugh. I like Aaron Rodgers, but really... he is pretty bubble-wrapped (protected from EVERYTHING), I do have to agree. My Packers friends get so sensitive when I say such things. hehehe

mail4rosey said...

Being in the NFC North, I should automatically hate The Bears, but the beauty of FF is I don't because they've got players who dish out the points for MY team, hahahaha

Thanks for stopping by. :)

Elephant's Child said...

Fantasy football? Completely new to me. Though my ignorance about all things football probably explains it.
Thank you for you visit and kind comment over at my place.

mail4rosey said...

Hubby and I are competitive, so if we're both playing, it's an extra dose of fun. :)

Kim Bartlett said...

Dropping by from Moon on Facebook. There's a lot of Fantasy Football going on in this house. My sport is hockey though so I have no clue who to even cheer for lol! I'd definitely suck at football but Fantasy Hockey I've tried but still suck! Ugh!

Colette S said...

Isn't he glad they didn't put any of his money in there :)

My hubs invited me to do the fantasy football two or three times. I usually beat him. i do nothing. I just pick my team and I"m done. He researches, peruses and put so much in it and so he cannot understand how I usually beat him :D

Well good luck to your hubs for next year.

Colette S said...

I didn't see any share buttons. Is it me or are you having problems with those showing too?

mail4rosey said...

I know you were so happy with the Saints/Seahawks game on Sat. :)

Props to Brees though, for consistently being one of THE best players to have on a Fantasy Football team. ;)

mail4rosey said...

It's fun to play, keeps you on your toes, and your stats. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Modesty def. works in your favor when you've lost the season. ;)

mail4rosey said...

The one bright spot, it was taking up precious book space. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Someday, I will win (said with great conviction). lol

or not. Either way, it's fun. :)

mail4rosey said...

lol, every time I say something won't happen, it always does. I might break out the quilting too. ;)

mail4rosey said...

I'm going to keep plugging away at it, victory or none. :)

mail4rosey said...

My hubby's a huge baseball fan too. :)

mail4rosey said...

I don't excel at that one either, though some days it would be nice to have such a talent. ;) hehehe

mail4rosey said...

You win some, you lose some. He'll be okay. It is fun to tease about his cocky start-of-the-season statement though. ;)

mail4rosey said...

It's really a ton of fun if you like football. :)

mail4rosey said...

It's easily my favorite sport to watch on TV. Live, watching the kids or hubby play their sports is my fave. :)

mail4rosey said...

My husband and I are a little (lot) competitive, so it makes it fun when our teams match up against each other. Winning one of THOSE is as good as winning a whole season to me. ;) :)

mail4rosey said...

Props to our husbands! :)

mail4rosey said...

It's a fun way to spend the cold months, that's for sure. :)

mail4rosey said...

Theresa, it's so fun (if you like football).

Joanna Sormunen said...

Sorry to hear your hubby had to give up the trophy. I don't play fantasy football, I know, I know. I've never even seen an actual football game. Not even in the TV. Just some flashes in the news or movies but that's it.

M Clark said...

I don't play fantasy football, but I do watch a game every now and again. Thanks for sharing.

Football is a great sport I watch it sometimes, But the answer to your question No I dont play Fantasy Football, but would love to watch everybody else play

Maria said...

Congrats to your husband for his previous wins!!! I love football especially during the playoffs!!

Lady Lilith said...

There is always next year. At least he did win two years in a row. That must have been fun for him.

Tough Cookie Mommy said...

I barely know the rules to real football, much less fantasy football. He can try again next year.

Brian Miller said...

ah you cant win all the time...smiles...my team fell short of the playoffs...i hope the rest of the games are good ones you know...

Danielle @ We Have It All said...

Aww bummer... but fantasy football is so much fun. Sorry he lost it though!

Peachy Adarne said...

I am clueless when it comes to sports! specially football!

Mel@Mellywood's Mansion said...

Julian has his dream team for Aussie rules and like your hubs lost the title lol I can't stand it

Kay Adeola said...

Well i am sorry but this has all gone over my head football and me do not really mix and hubby loves to play sports some of the time i take no interest lol.

Ashley Gill said...

My husband is DEEP in the Fantasy Football World as well.. he has a few teams, but the one he watches the most they play for a trophy and a small bout of cash. Each team has to put in $2 at the beginning of the season and the winner takes all.. He has gotten 2nd place for the last few years. I hope next year he wins!

Teresa Moody said...

I totally dont know anything about football, unlike my husband, who is a football freak. lol.

mail4rosey said...

Carolina never had such a fan. :) Sorry to hear you finished 6th. Next year... :)

Kristie said...

My father-in-law always plays and wins or comes close to winning too. No clue how he does it! My 2 brother-in-laws were playing this year too...between the 3 of them, they were the top three out of about 20 last weekend...not sure where they ended up yet, but I'm sure I'll hear soon enough. ;-)

mail4rosey said...

There is like a whole category reserved as 'Football Food,' isn't there? :)

mail4rosey said...

Thank you for visiting back. :)

mail4rosey said...

I wouldn't be good at FH either. I didn't even know it existed, but I guess I should not be surprised!! I was surprised a couple of years ago to learn about FBaseball!! I think that goes too long though.

mail4rosey said...

We have a nephew who did the brackets, not knowing a thing about basketball, and won all the money. Fun stuff!

mail4rosey said...

I see them? My email subscription has only gone out a few times this year though. Crazy.

alissa apel said...

That trophy is pretty cool! My husband loves college football the most. Mainly because people freak out about the Huskers here. :)

Our Neck of the Woods said...

Oh I love that trophy! How fun. I'm glad you had a good time hanging out with your friends. I'm not a sports fan so I don't keep up with football or anything. My hubby used to play fantasy football with his friends but hasn't for the last couple years. He's more into baseball so he does still play fantasy baseball though!

Shey W. said...

Sounds like fun. I don't know anything about football, fantasy footbal but my hubby like that sport too

mail4rosey said...

I'm married to a sports nut, so I've seen pretty much any kind of sport I can think of...some I enjoy, others I ignore. :)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks for visiting.

mail4rosey said...

It is fun to watch others play, and everyone always walks out of the draft thinking they've got THE best team. That makes me laugh. :)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks for the 'grats. :)

mail4rosey said...

He's generally in the top when he does picks of any kinds w/sports. A natural inclination for sports, I guess... :)

mail4rosey said...

He joins several leagues a year, and loves it. I'm okay with just one!! :)

mail4rosey said...

Sorry your team was out so early. I'm looking forward to good games too. :)

mail4rosey said...

3 in a row would have rocked, but 'twas not meant to be. ;)

mail4rosey said...

I am clueless at playing them (hubby's good at being a spectator or a participant). I think it's my two left feet that do me in. ;)

Courtney Pies said...

I played for a couple of years, but haven't in awhile. My dad plays every year and always does badly. Lol.

mail4rosey said...

Sorry to hear he's out. :/ Crossing my fingers for him for next year. :)

mail4rosey said...

Free time for you! :)

mail4rosey said...

It is fun when they win, especially because they get so geeked over it. :)

(Terry) My Journey With Candida said...

Yep... that dang getting cocky will come back to bite you every time. It is kind of like karma

mail4rosey said...

It's easy to get caught up in, and it can be really fun. :)

mail4rosey said...

Woot!! GL to them all. I hope you get a trifecta finish for your family. :)

mail4rosey said...

I freak out about the Huskers here too. ;) I know you're not equally zealous though, so I won't throw in a cheer. :)

mail4rosey said...

I think Fantasy Baseball goes on too long (baseball is a lot of games, making for a long season) but my husband loves it too.

mail4rosey said...

Hopefully you like the free time then, so you can do your own thing when the games are on. :)

mail4rosey said...

Well, I'm in good company then, hurrah for that. ;) I sometimes start off w/a bang, but I never even make it to the play-offs. :)

mail4rosey said...

Agreed. ;)

RACHEL TaoOfPoop said...

I think two years is pretty good, but it's still a long way to fall off that pedestal! Agree with previous commenters: trophy is cool and karma is a you know what! On a side note, I just need to comment about your last comment on my blog. You said that you didn't mind the messes when your kids were young, and my first thought was, "I KNOW, Rosey! Because you so clearly have so much more patience than me!! When are you going to give me a lesson? I desperately need it!"

~ Noelle said...

awesome... glad for 2 years of it... but yep... getting a bit to big for his shoes, eh? ha ha ha... hope you get it one year. that would be hilarious

Megan Chamberlin said...

I'm a Bears fan, so I can commiserate. I love playing fantasy, but since my team tends to fall apart before playoffs, sometimes my fantasy team suffers from my frustration.

Nikki said...

I know nothing about Fantasy Football, but that just sounds devastating! Poor hubby! I hope he gets it back! :)

Amiyrah Martin said...

I promised myself that I would join a fantasy football league next year since I love football. My biggest fear is my team falling apart right at the beginning of the season. Oy Vey!

Sonya M. Jones said...

I wouldn't be any good a picking winners. However, I do think the Patriots are going to pull it off this year. My poor Dallas is sitting home watching the game. I wish they would get rid of that coach. We need a team makeover in the worst way.

mail4rosey said...

But the teen!! That was a different story, remember!! :)

mail4rosey said...

Oh yeah, he was def. getting a little big for his shoes, and his britches too. ;)

mail4rosey said...

lol, mine used to go by the wayside due to homework sometimes. It's hard to recover once you have a couple of bad weeks under the belt.

mail4rosey said...

Thanks to Statistics and Accounting (the courses he's in after work gets out), I think he's already forgotten about it. ;)

mail4rosey said...

At the beginning is better than at the end, it means you still have time to recover! :)

mail4rosey said...

Or an owner make over? What??!?!?! Did I even say that on my nice, friendly blog??? Forgive me, Sonya... I do think it could be true though. ;)

Monica said...

There really is nothing like getting together with old friends! Honestly - I'm not much of a sports fan - but I do love how it brings people together!

mail4rosey said...

It does...and even the ones who don't like to play, like to socialize afterwards at the draft party. :)
