Happy New Year's Eve!

We're still doing the family thing here, and I love it!!!

It's fun to see the switch with the older two boys, who have switched from loving the presents to loving the time home with family more.

I know I said no more crappy pictures from my old camera, but despite the terrible quality, this pic's still one of my faves.
I love when the kids get together. They do a lot of laughing. :)

And I know I said no more pics w/my old crappy camera, but this terrible blurry picture is one of my favorites because it's one of the things I love most about the kids getting together. They do a lot of laughing.

Just being silly and hamming it up for the camera.
They do a lot of goofing off and being silly too.

One of my favorite things though, is that even though there are a ton of places to sit in the house, they all still opt to sit together. :)

Living out in the country, and in a small town to boot, we don't have a lot of things to do to keep the big kids occupied.  The guys went out to shoot some targets and they had fun with that... it was a little too cold for my blood though, so I hightailed it back inside.

And of course we've been loving our time with our daughter-in-law and the sweet, sweet baby!

Little one has THE best personality. She's just happy-go-lucky and loves everything.

Her mommy put her hair in pigtails yesterday and I couldn't help but laugh...little cute baby.

Lots of new fun things. Baby's loving them all, and we're loving watching her love them. :)

Wishing everyone a safe and happy New Year's Eve.

$50 Staples Gift Card & Lasko 5394 Digital Heater Giveaway!

Disclosure: I received a product to help facilitate the review.  All opinions stated are genuine and my own.

The Lasko 5394 Digital Space Heater is a great way to gain an extra boost of heat where you would like or need it.

One of the most important things to have in the winter, if you live in a cold state, is heat.  Sometimes you don't want to run up the electric bill, but would like a little extra heat in a particular room. Or maybe you have a cabin or other place where a portable heater would be ideal. If you're lucky enough to live in a warm state, you might like to have this for the rare occasions when it does get a little chilly.

This Lasko 5394 elevated pedestal heater (sold at Staples) is very easy to put together, just the few simple pieces you see in the picture above. It stands 30" x 12" x 12" when assembled. That makes it perfect for distributing heat right in the area where people are most likely to be, such as seated on a couch or chair, or resting on a bed.

The top of the heater has easy to use and/or program buttons that you can control by hand. The timer can be set in one hour increments for up to (8) hours. The heat settings are high, low, and auto. It also comes with nice features like a remote control, and widespread room oscillation. It is 1500 watts, and comes with a warranty.  The Lasko 5394 Digital space-saving heater can be found in stores and online, including both at Staples.

One winner gets a $50 Staples Gift Card and a Lasko 5394 Digital Space-Saving Heater
One lucky winner gets this awesome heater and a $50 gift card to Staples. US entrants only.

Happy Day After Christmas ;)

Our elf did a lot of fun things, we're going to miss him. ;)
I hope everyone who celebrates it, had a very Merry Christmas yesterday!! We woke up to a note from the elf (who had to go back home). I'm going to miss the elf and his crazy antics (like the one photographed above).

Santa filled the room w/Army men, they were everywhere!
And this could be the last blurry picture I post because Santa is a nice Santa who bought me a new camera. Have I mentioned lately how awesome I think "Santa" is? :)

Santa also filled every single nook and cranny of the room where we have our Christmas tree (including the entire floor) with little plastic Army men, and the things Army men need to work (like plastic Army planes, 'copters, tanks, etc.).   I guess Santa was hard at work while we were sound asleep. And Santa found an Army Man Lego Set too...because he's nifty like that... to say this whole set up was a huge hit with the youngest in our house would be an understatement. Guess it's a good thing he wrote Santa that letter. ;)

Santa needs a secretary, I think though, because the 'big present' my daughter got, she got from two people (including us). Looks like Santa's got some 'splainin to do, and baby darling girl has a decision to make. :)

Baby Grand will be here tomorrow, and I can't wait!
The grown kids are all coming in tomorrow (flying and driving, depending on the kid ;)), and new grandbaby will be here too.  Her other grandma e-mailed me this picture from yesterday, and all I could say was, awwww!!!!  I cannot wait to see her and kiss her little fat cheekers!!

I hope everyone's got their messes all cleaned up, gifts put away, etc., and can relax a bit today.  Hubby's lucky here, he's got the day off, woot!!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

The Mother of All Meltdowns

Source
$.99 on Kindle

I was thinking of bloggers and how nice they are collectively.  Of course, if I could get each and every person a little token of happy for the holiday, I would, but I like far too many bloggers to do that, I would absolutely go broke.  ;)  Still, it was a thought and many of you have one or two bloggers you are especially close to, so perhaps this idea would be great for you/them!

A lot of you know Janine from Confessions of a Mommyholic.  Oh my gosh, she's just nice, funny, sincere, AND she's got a piece published in the book, The Mother of All Meltdowns.  The book is a compilation of stories by 30 different writers, all sharing a personal story with you. The book is sure to evoke emotions. It may make you laugh, cry, or find yourself nodding your head in agreement because you can relate.  My favorite part is that each of the writers is also a blogger.  That got me to thinking this would be such a fun gift to give another blogger, if you did have one (or more) on your list that you wanted to give a thank-you to, or simply say Merry Christmas.

Of course it's a read for any adult, not just bloggers, but I thought it would be a nice holiday gesture to send one to another blogger or two.  It's available on Kindle for $.99, or you can buy a hard copy for $9.99. And purchasing one is a great way to show support to the group of bloggers who collaborated to make the book happen, and it's support that can be done for less than a dollar (if you purchase the electronic version). :)

Big kudos to the gals who wrote it, and took the time to have it published.  Wishing you all every good success with your writing endeavors!

Information and purchase information on the book can be found here.

Del Sol Color Change Polish

Disclosure: We received a bottle of nail polish to help facilitate the review.  All opinions stated are genuine, and my own.

Source

One last stocking stuffer?  I thought I was done doling out presents, and in all actuality, I am, but a bottle of Del Sol color change polish arrived in our mail, and that is too good to pass up for a little stocking gift when you have a teen in the house.

My daughter loves to paint her nails, and she loves to experiment with mixing and matching colors, patterns, embellishments, etc., so I think this will be a great find for her come Christmas morning. It goes on clear with lots of glittery sparkles that are oh so pretty, and it turns into a different color when you're in the sun.

Source
We got the 'Sweet 16,' that turns a rich reddish maroon glitter color in the sun.  It's funny because you forget it's on there, and then you go outside and you've got different colored nails. I like it!  I painted just a thumb to test it out. I like the sparkly clear color in the house too, it's fun. The polish is durable too, I've had it painted on my thumb for several days and despite all the work I've been doing in and around the house, it's holding up like new.

Del Sol has tutorial videos on their website for making different nail creations. I've shared a Christmas Light tutorial in the video above.  I'm sure there are just tons of great ideas you could come up with for this kind of polish. If you have a teen in the house, it's the perfect last minute shopping item to put in a Christmas stocking. It could be a fun item to ribbon up on top of a gift too.

The Del Sol website is full of color changing items, including character shirts, hoodies, jewelry, sunglasses, etc.  You can learn more about Del Sol and their products by visiting their website here.  You can also follow them on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and/or Pinterest.

Christmas Program

video

The Christmas Program came and went.  Our son is second to last singing in this little clip.  The little bow cracks me up every time. When they got back to the risers, they saw their bells had fallen, and that was a concern. How can you jingle without bells?  :)

Wishing you all a happy, productive (or restful, whichever you prefer) weekend. :)

Making Holiday Treats with Nestle

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Many of you know that my idea of pretty, fantastic, wonderful, & terrific is usually something one of my kids have made.  Gingerbread houses are no exception. So when Nestle sent us some SweetTarts Holiday Gummies, we knew right where to use them.

Yesterday was "Make-a-Gingerbread-House Day" for the Kindergartners (yeah, I love that day!), and we put the gummies to good use! You can see the trees and snowmen providing the scenery around the house (those are the gummies).

I asked my son what his favorite part of making Gingerbread Houses was, and he said it was the taste-testing. ;)

You can make your own Gingerbread House out of a milk carton too. It's way easier than trying to construct one and have it stick together from a kit (at least it is for us!).

Ingredients

  • A washed and dried pint-sized cardboard milk carton
  • 3 full-sized Graham Crackers
  • White Frosting
  • Something for little hands to use for spreading the frosting
  • A paper plate
  • Candy Embellishments

Note: You can staple the top of the carton closed so it doesn't open during assembly (optional)

Instructions

  • Spread a square-dollop of frosting on the middle of the plate, making it approximately the size of the milk carton bottom.
  • Firmly (not so firmly you remove the frosting from underneath the carton) press your carton into place
  • Carefully snap your graham crackers in half (you should have six squares)
  • Spread a coat of frosting on the top of the carton and on each side.
  • Firmly (not so firmly it breaks) adhere a graham cracker square to each section.
  • Allow to dry.
  • Then you want to carefully spread frosting on top of the graham crackers, and use the frosting to hold your decorating pieces (candy) in place.
  • Embellish with candies like the Wonka SweetTarts Holiday Gummies (placed in the frosting to hold in place), and allow to dry.

We used our Wonka SweetTarts Holiday Gummies
to create outside scenery for my son's Gingerbread House

Easy peasy, and fun too.  The little ones enjoy making these. They get to use their dexterity and feel accomplished, while still being offered a bit of a challenge. And it's working with candy (always a big bonus with the young crowd). I love making one (or more) of these milk carton Gingerbread Houses each and every holiday season.

Nestle also sent us a great big candy cane full of powdered pixie sticks. Those are hanging on the stocking rack, and all of the kids can share those throughout the holiday season (after Christmas morning, of course).

Will you be making/baking things with candy over the holiday season too?  If so, make sure to check out the Nestle brand. You can get all kinds of Nestle goodies (Wonka, Nestle Cruch, and Butterfinger too!) for baking and holiday creating, and none of them are over $10.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Revised Winner

The first winner drawn for the Things Remembered snow globe giveaway did not get in touch with me (I tried many ways), so a new winner has been drawn. She has already confirmed and her globe is on its way.

Wiley's Finest Wild Alaskan Fish Oil

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I know some of you take Omega-3 supplements daily. My husband does too, but it's always been in a capsule form. When I asked him if he'd like to try a liquid form he said, "Are you crazy?"  :)  I told him it said it tastes good, he was skeptical. Well we got it, and he tried it (after looking at the bottle a few days...I guess working up his nerve) and he liked it. The flavor is not at all unpleasant, in fact you are supposed to refrigerate it after opening it, and he said he likes to take his spoonful when it's cold. You only take it once a day, and so far (after three days of using it), no fishy burps (common w/the capsules).

This is a different way to get an Omega-3 supplement, and is especially fantastic for those who don't like to, or have a hard time swallowing pills.  I think that's what I like most about it.

The Wild Alaskan fish oil is naturally orange, and derived from sustainable Alaskan fish caught by American fishermen.

The following is information from Wiley's:

Great Tasting Liquid Fish Oil!

Get your Omega-3s in a liquid! Our all natural, rich orange color liquid is reflective of the Wild Alaskan Pollock diet. We gently process the oil to remove environmental contaminants while preserving the natural micronutrients Vitamin A & D and the super antioxidant Astaxanthin.

·         Each teaspoon contains
o    440mg EPA, 220mg DHA for a total of 660mg EPA + DHA
o    220mg Omega-7
o    600mg Omega-9
o    Naturally contains (not added) Vitamin A (3000-8000 IU) and Vitamin D3 (1-10 IU)
o    Naturally contains (not added) Astaxanthin 5-15mcg per serving

·         Take 1 tsp. per day; 8.45 fl. oz. bottle is a 50 day supply!

Being a fish oil in liquid, it seems intimidating at first, but I tried it this morning, and it's not bad at all! Definitely not fishy tasting, which is what I guess I expected, even though my husband told me otherwise. How about you? Would you consider a liquid form of Alaskan Fish Oil?

You can learn more about the product by visiting the website. You can also follow them on Facebook and/or Twitter.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Glasstic Water Bottles are Awesome!

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

My son's teacher expects the kids to bring a water bottle to school every day. I like it because it's a good way to encourage them to want to drink it.  The challenge is finding the right water bottle. We have gone through several in two years, with the worst case being one we got from the discount store that actually sprung a leak. :/

Glasstic (shatterproof glass water bottle) has been good for my son for several reasons. First and foremost, the drinking spout is an open, fairly large, very easy to clean oval opening on the top. That means my son does not have to fight to open or close it, and it's easy for me to make sure it's clean. The latter is very important to me. With the water bottles that have the long skinny drinking straw, I worry if it's clean enough...how do you actually know?  With the Glasstic bottle, that's not a concern. The bottle also has a nice flip top with a lock, which is designed to prevent leaking and/or accidental spills.

I also like that it's glass, but it's not going to break.  I know those of you who are essential oil or mineral water drinkers prefer glass only, and the durability, size, and shatterproof elements all make the Glasstic bottle a great choice.

See that handle?  That makes it easy to tote if you're an adult taking it with you on a run, or another type of exercise. It also makes it very easy to carry if you're a child (water bottles with no handle can be difficult for little hands to carry).

A big bonus for Glasstic is that they offer glass insert replacements for the life of the product, for just the cost of shipping.  That encourages re-use and helps ensure your bottle is going to around for a long time. Nice! Right now we've only got one in the house, and I let the youngest take it to school each day for his water. If we had another though, I'd use it for my own fruit and veggie concoctions, and for toting around with me when I exercise.  The bottles are also double insulated and sweat-proof so I wouldn't have to worry about condensation, or that they would mar any surface like wood.

The Glasstic bottles are easy to disassemble for cleaning, and they are dishwasher safe.

You can learn more about the Glasstic shatterproof water bottle by visiting their website.

You can also follow them on Facebook, and/or Twitter.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Free Holiday Fun

Free activities are everywhere this time of year, and I love it!  Last week (not last weekend, with all of the snow, we opted to stay in), we went to the mall and in the center of it they had the Letter-to-Santa station that's up every year, the big mailbox, and the holiday stand-ups.

Little man stood in line and took his turn to write the letter.

When it was time to mail it, he had to peek and make sure it went all the way down (why does everyone do that? I do it too). :)

And pose for a few pics for mom.

It's a little free entertainment we like to take part of every year.  It makes shopping more fun.

On a side note, and sort of related, my teen daughter finally told me what she wants for Christmas...after I'd already finished shopping :/  I told her she's getting coal for waiting so long to let me know. ;)  I don't like one thing on a list though...I don't want the kids to know what they're getting. Very minor shopping left now (just the groceries right before the big kids get home). We're on the home stretch, and I'm getting so so so sooooo psyched to see all of the kids (I'll probably say that every day until they get here)!! Woot! I LOVE this time of year. :)

Guylian Belgian Chocolate

Guylian Belgian Chocolate

If you are looking for an elegant selection of chocolate, Guylian Belgian Chocolate will not disappoint. Molded into delicate shapes such as a seahorse or a seashell, the chocolate itself is silky, creamy, and delicious.

I tried the Guylian Dark Chocolate yesterday and while I was not surprised to find it delicious, I was surprised to find it had none of the slightly bitter aftertaste I associate with dark chocolate. Zero, zip, nada, none!  It was just a small burst of smooth dark chocolate deliciousness.

Hubby likes dark chocolate but he wanted to try a truffle. The truffles are filled with Guylian's signature hazelnut filling, and they are light and filling at the same time. The truffle did not disappoint, and he went on about it so much that I gave one a try too.  Just as with the dark chocolate, the truffle was luxuriously decadent and it felt like I was eating something very expensive. The good news, I wasn't! Guylian Belgian Chocolate is not only delicious, it is also affordable.

If you see these while you're out and about shopping before the holiday, pick some up to give as gifts. I think these would be so well received by so many different people!! We're giving one of the samples we received to the secretary at each of the schools, one to the weekend mail person, and one to the next door neighbor we haven't yet given a little gift to.  I may pick another few little boxes up to put in the stockings. I'm not sure if they have any at our grocery store (that's the only shopping we have left now), but I'll be on the lookout (it's already written on the list).

I saw a coupon code on the Guylian website today...save 30% on all orders through 12/20 using the code Holiday30.

If you would like to order Guylian Belgian Chocolate online after that date (you can use the code now, but the 30% is the better deal!), you can receive a 10% off discount by using the discount code Chocolate10. The code is good until the end of the 2013 year.

You can learn more about Guylian Belgian Chocolate by visiting their online store here: http://shop.guylianbelgianchocolate.com

You can also follow them on Facebook.

One lucky reader will receive an assortment of chocolates like those pictured above by entering on the Rafflecopter form below. US entrants only.
