Are You a Stocker or a Re-Stocker?

Just a silly question today.

Yesterday I noticed my husband was running low on something, and I told him I'd pick another up at the store when I went to town. He replied that he didn't need it...he wasn't out of the other one.

When we have a product or item running low in the house (food, toiletries, laundry detergent, etc.), I like to know there is a full-sized one already purchased and sitting patiently on the shelf, waiting to take its place.

Hubby, on the other hand, doesn't like to buy something if we've already got one in the house.

He's a re-stocker.  I'm a stocker. :)

Does most everyone fall into such a category?  If so, which are you?

  1. I don't like to buy things that we already have in the house. At any given time you will hear me say that "my house is not a storage facility". I just don't have space for everything, so one at a time is enough for me.

  2. I think I'm kind of in the middle. We have a smidgen of ketchup, no taco sauce and there's like maybe enough mayo to make sandwiches for the rest of the week. There's no back up. So I'll go get all of the things I need when I absolutely run out of something. I guess that kind of puts me in a different category altogether.

  3. I like to have a few extra on hand... I hate running out of things.. so I'm a stocker ;-)

  4. I am totally a stocker and my hubby is the re-stocker in our family. So, I can totally relate to this post and sometimes it just drives me crazy, because I would like to make sure that we have the item at hand in the house already and ready to use when need be. So with you on this!

  9. We do the same around here. I hate to run out of anything and when you open the last of something you replace it the next store run. You and I are doing the same. Far less stress.

    Have a terrific day. ☺

  10. I'm definitely a re-stocker. I never buy anything until I'm almost out of it. But it would be nice to have some things stocked up just in case!

  11. I'm the same as your husband :) I wait until I'm completely out of something before buying a new one. It helps that we live in town so we literally have a store down the block. It would be different if we lived in the suburbs or country.

  12. I am a restocker. We run out of things all the time. More so because of the grocery budget than anything else. Its just a little tight right now. I dream of being a stocker! LOL

  13. I think we both tend to be re-stockers with exceptions. My hubby is a major stocker of bread... he keeps buying it and then it piles up and they open the new one and push the old one back until there are like 4 open loaves of bread and three of them are stale! It drives me nuts :) I will stock up on things if I know i'm going to be making certain meals that week, otherwise I usually buy as it runs out.

  14. i am totally a stocker rosey! just like you, i buy something extra that is in the storage somewhere...just 1 of each (just so i am not labeled as a hoarder) lol!
i don't about you but it makes me nervous to see an almost empty something - example: almost empty toothpaste...when i see that, i make sure that i have a stock somewhere to replace it as soon as that is empty! haha

  15. My husband and I are exactly like that. I have been trying for 40 years - now I have one item opened and one of the same thing closed - so when he runs out of the item open - get the other one - and just write it on my grocery list so that when i go I can get a replacement. Does this make sense? Well he does it around 75% of the time - but I have two others I/m trying to teach too! I guess I am a stocker.

  16. I am definitely a stocker. Especially on toilet paper. I have rolls hidden all over the house for those "just in case we are running too low" moments. I am terrified of not having enough toilet paper lol.

  17. My husband and I are both stockers so we have to keep each other in check to make sure we don't become hoarders, lol.

  18. I'm a stocker!!! I have a massive stockpile that I love haha.

  19. I like to have a backup of certain items like toilet paper, juice, etc... Stocker! :)

  20. I definitely fall into the stocker category. Love nothing better than a backup plan. It makes me feel secure that I have whatever just in case of an emergency.

  21. Grant is the stocker. When he goes to the store (rarely) he will buy extra of the item. Like if I say one package of paper towels, he buys two. I guess I am more of a re-stocker, but I will buy two gallons of milk each week at the grocery store.

    1. When I had two boys in the house we went through milk like crazy. My daughter and youngest son aren't overly big on it.

  22. I think I am a bit of both Rosey! It all depends on the item. I hope your day is going well.

  23. Hi Rosey,
What a funny post! I'm a stocker and my husband is a re-stocker. However, when it comes to toilet paper, we are both stockers. You just can't have enough of that stuff in the house.

  24. I like to get lots of things when it is on sale for a good price even if we already have some. He wouldn't get things until we were totally out if it were up to him.... but I do all the shopping so he is excited when there is a second of what he just ran out of (even if he wouldn't have bought it). :)

  25. I am a total stocker - I like one and maybe even two sitting there waiting so if I run out I am good and have it on hand.

  26. I get mad at myself when I see stuff really cheap and I only walk out and buy one. I am a stocker, but sometimes I wonder why I am like your husband. I made sure that I got more of the items I needed today instead of having to go back to the store.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think I'm both! Is that weird? :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm definitely a stocker! I have backups of my backups lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am a stocker too!!! Though, I do have to confess, I don't just buy one backup item, it's more like 2 or 5!

  30. I'm definitely a stocker! A little too much of one sometimes.

  31. I'm a stocker! =)
and if I can "stock up" while the item is on sale, that's even better!

    ReplyDelete
  32. At heart I'm totally a stocker! To the extreme where I'm most comfortable with two items packed away depending on what it is~ but with our recent cuts to our shopping budget I've been forced into restocking! but if I get a little extra money I'll totally go stock my house first!

  33. My Hubs is a stocker and I am a restocker. We don't have the room for a stocker and I keep telling him that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It depends on what it is. If it's cumin...then I am a stocker. I always think we're almost out, buy a new jar...and realize I've got 5 unopened jars in the spice cabinet...ummmmm....

    ReplyDelete
  35. I aim to be a stocker but generally tend to be a restocker :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. i try to stock.... for the majority... and i wait till its the end (it has to be about 1/4 full and then i can get another on most....) i hate being OUT of anything...

    ReplyDelete
  37. If I know that an item is the last one in the pantry, I'll add it to my list and buy another one.
    So I guess I'm a stocker.

Why wait for it to be gone and then panic?
