Last year when it was my son's birthday the staff at a restaurant sang to him while he was looking around to see who's birthday it was, hahahahaha, best video ever!! This year, he did much better, and Texas Roadhouse knows how to do up a birthday. This lady yelling was our waitress, and she got a really good tip. ;)
Another big event happened this week...school started! Little man is repeating Kindergarten again this year...our choice. This was such a hard, hard, hard decision for us. The teacher left it in our hands last year whether or not to pass him. He was doing fine with his work but was noticeably under-confident in doing it. I saw the same thing on the soccer field. He was basically a year younger than everyone else (he's on the birthday bubble), and that can make a huge difference in Kindergarten. I saw that with my own two eyes.
A big thank you to Joyce from Catch My Words who gave me so much clarity and help when I was trying to make this decision!!! Joyce is a school teacher, and she was a big, big help to me on making one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made regarding my youngest. I knew in my heart of hearts when I made the decision it was the right one. Just a couple of days into the school year, I've had that reaffirmed several times. He is already showing confidence this year (he knows what he's doing this go around), he's the same size as everyone else now (lol!), and it's just the right fit.

See? He's got that shirt tucked in to show off that brand new belt. hahahaha |
Because his birthday is right before school starts, he never gets to celebrate in class...or so we thought. Since today was his turn for Show & Tell, and to bring a treat, we got permission to bring in birthday cupcakes, that I
And the school year is off and running, woo hoo!! Grandma and Grandpa are picking him up from school today, to take him out for a birthday dinner and give him his present (they were out of town for his actual birthday). His first time ever going off without mom or dad, and he's excited. It's going to be a good day for my little one, and that makes me very happy. :)
He's having a fun birthday more than once this year. I like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's having a better school year too. That's so important.
Have a terrific day. ☺
Thanks, Sandee. That was a tough decision for me, really tossed me off of my smooth rocking for a minute. ;)
DeleteAh...a woman after my own heart! I knew I like you, Rosey! The cupcakes look beautiful, and so does the little boy holding them. I'm so glad that you feel good about your decision, especially a hard one that requires serious soul searching! A Happy Birthday and cheers to a good school year!
ReplyDeleteIt did take so much soul searching, that was a big one. :)
DeleteHigh Five to a fellow Bakery Buyer, wooooot! :) Someone's gotta support those ladies who bake for a living. ;) Thanks for the well wishes to my little guy.
I was waiting for this post! Happy 6th birthday to your sweetie. He is adorable. So glad to hear that he is repeating K - my daughter is the youngest in her grade (6 t the very end of December :(). And I too wish that I could have held her back - but NYC is now very strict about this and wouldn't let us. I think it's so important for them to be confident on the beginning of their academic trajectory and the current common core is no joke. So happy for you, cheering on your decisions and wishing all the best on this new academic year! And Happy Bday again to your sweet boy. xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Monica. The curriculum really is no joke, they've got those kids reading, writing, and doing their Math half way through the Kindergarten school year. While that's amazing (compared to my own half-day, play-time Kindergarten experience) it's also intimidating if you're not ready for it. He's going to be just fine this year, I can feel it. :) Thank you for your kind words and well wishes!
DeleteMust have been hard indeed but sounds like it was surely the right plan. That can be the best to when everyone can't make your birthday, as then you get to celebrate more haha
ReplyDeleteMore than one b/day celebration: The perks of being a kid. :)
DeleteHappy birthday to your little guy and honestly sometimes we have to make the hardest choices as parents, but so glad this one seems to have indeed been the right one for him.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janine. x2! :)
DeleteHi my dear!! What a lovely post, your little man is such a cutie and it sounds like he's had such a wonderful time too! Xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sharon. Birthdays are fun. :)
DeleteI'm so happy for him! Happy Birthday lil' man! I couldn't help, but hear his name in the video, and I love it! I think you made the right decision about him repeating another year of Kindergarten. Mica's birthday is in Aug. I waited for him. I had my doubts with/when to send him to the big K. Let's hope now he can be a leader in his class (since he knows what's up).
ReplyDeleteFour kids, Alissa...and only one of them has a normal name, lolol
DeleteYour boys have great names, both of them!
I think we made the right decision to repeat here. I'd rather have him a tad ahead than a tad behind.
BTW schools here won't let us make treats to send to school. I get it. But the odd thing is that the PTA board has bake sales all the time. Such a contradiction. It makes me giggle a little; at how some rules work.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the same. Florida wouldn't let us bring anything not store-wrapped, but they had big bake sales to raise funds. :)
DeleteOh my favorite little man is having a birthday! Congratulations and many many blessing, years to come with happiness health and love with the guide of Jesus, Mother Mary and your Guardian Angel! Hugs, Lizy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lizy!! Best kind of birthday wish to give! :)
DeleteHappy birthday to the little feller!! This calls for cake :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Cake's on the house (if you're in his kindergarten class today ;) ).
DeleteAwww happy birthday to your baby! I'm glad that he is more confident in school this year. Sounds like you definitely made the right decision in his education! Although I'm sure it was so hard.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy. I'm happy for my little sweet guy!
DeleteHappy birthday to your little guy!
ReplyDeleteOhh, Anne!! If I could make those gorgeous cakes you do, I'd never go to a bakery. BUT, I cannot, alas I shop. :)
Deletehappy bday to your baby!!! texas roadhouse is an awesome treat...my little guys love it cause they can throw things on the floor...ha
ReplyDeleteThat was his favorite part until they told him to stand on the bench, hahaa
DeleteThanks for the birthday wishes.
Awww! How sweet! I'll take one of those lovingly homemade cupcakes :) Happy Birthday to him!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christy. If you were here, we'd share. :)
DeleteIm glad he is doing well at school. =)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your Son! the photos are wonderful.
Thanks, Melissa. I'm so glad he is too!! :)
DeleteHappy birthday RS
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday RS
Happy birthday dear RS
Happy birthday to you!!!
That video is just too cute for words Rosie :)
XOXO
No way he'd have done that last year (way too shy in public). He's coming along. :)
DeleteI loved the video! He doesn't look shy at all lol. Happy Birthday kiddo! Hope he had a great day!
ReplyDeleteLast year he was hide behind me, hold my leg shy if even the neighbors came in to visit. He's getting less and less shy all of the time. I'm glad too (for his sake).
DeleteHope he had a great birthday!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe Love Texas Roadhouse here... that is actually where I went for my birthday :)
Texas Roadhouse and Hard Rock Hotel by the pool, you know how to live sista'!
DeleteHahaha... cute video Rosey. LOL.. so funny. Happy Birthday to the Little Man.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday wishes, Terry. He didn't smile about it until lunch was over and we LEFT the building. Then he was talking non-stop about it for a few, hahahahaha.
DeleteWell happy birthday to your cutie pie...6 years old! Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandie. I'm guessing he was happy to celebrate in his class. Kids make birthdays even better. :)
DeleteHappy Happy Birthday! I hope he has a wonderful 6th birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen!
DeleteHappy birthday little man ... 6 woo hoo!!
ReplyDeleteI think repeating kindergarten will be great for him. Especially since it will most likely give him the confidence he needs going forward!
Good luck mama!

What a very wonderful post. Happy Birthday to your son! He is so cute, and I liked his belt. Wow! What a nice thing that he got to bring these delicious cupcakes to his class so he could share them on his birthday!
ReplyDeleteLOL, Karen I asked him if he showed his belt for Show & Tell and he said, I showed one other person but not for Show & Tell, hahahaha
DeleteFirst, he's sooo cute. Second, I'm so glad to see other parents doing this. I completely get the whole birthday bubble and how it affects their maturity and the ability to relate with their peers. Good for you, mommy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support. No idea why a decision that should be so easy to make was difficult, but it was there for a bit.
DeleteOh Happy Birthday 'Little Man' ~ glad you had a happy one ~ Great Mommy you have and enjoy school ~ need to rush ahead with school ~ He will be going for 12 years ~ Smart move and thanks for coming by my blog ~ always great to 'see you'. carol, xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support, Carol. :)
DeleteMy youngest will be one of the oldest in his class because of cut offs and birthdays. He wants to start school now, but he is just a little bit too young which is a no go for the school district :) My oldest struggled a lot with kindergarten, but he finally did better by the end of the year. I know a lot of people that have either started boys later or had them repeat kindergarten. It sounds like you are a great mom and are doing what's best for your son :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad your little one was able to be where he needed to be by the end of Kindergarten. I'm so happy so much support from other moms came in from this one (before when I first approached the subject, and now). That's really nice, actually! Not everyone thinks I've made the right decision (in the family), but I'm still thinking I have. No turning back now in any case. :)
DeleteA peanut bar. Used to love those. Did you have a beer? can't eat peanuts without a cold beer. Happy Birthday Little Man
ReplyDeleteHubby was next door drafting for his work football team, and he was the one indulging. I was the one who had to drive. ;)
DeleteHappy birthday to your little man!
ReplyDeleteAnd kudos to you, I'm sure having him repeat kindergarten was a hard decision to make but he will benefit from it.
Both of our little guys are in kindergarten!
Kindergarten is a really fun year for them. My son loved it last year, and he already loves it this year. :)
DeleteGood luck to your little guy this year! He must love being a big guy now, in school. That's big time stuff, you know. :)
Sounds like he had a great day and many more
ReplyDeleteIt was a good birthday. :)
DeleteAwww looks like he had a wonderful birthday!!! Happy birthday to your little guy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nicol. :)
DeleteHappy sixth birthday! I love Texas Road House. YUM. I'm glad he's had a great start to the new school year. I know he'll do fabulous. Thanks for the shout out.
ReplyDeletehttp://joycelansky.blogspot.com
Thanks for the thoughtful advice. :)
DeleteI'm sure in the end, you made the right decision. You know your son and his abilities better than anyone.
ReplyDeleteI do feel like that's true. Thanks, Binky. :) I'm headed over to see what your wombat's up to.
DeleteHappy birthday to your little man!!! It IS a tough decision whether to let kids repeat the year or not and I'm glad Joyce was there to help you make it :)
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Thanks, Ai. I'm confident he's in the right place. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday little man! they grow up so quickly don't they
ReplyDeleteYou said it, sistah! I am soaking these years up and enjoying every last drop. My second oldest called today to tell me hi on his way to work. SIGH Seems like he was in Kindergarten not long ago. no joke.
DeleteWhat a little cutie! And a keeper, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you agonized over the decision, but it's clear you made the right one. (Mama Knows Best.)
It's a saying that's stuck around for so long with good reason, I do believe. :)
DeleteLooks like he had a lot of fun. Almost makes me wish I was 5 again.
ReplyDelete*6.
DeleteKids got it made. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED kindergarten, I wish I repeated, hello nap time!
They don't nap them anymore, at least not at my son's school. They did with my three older ones, but not anymore. Brave teachers. ;)
DeleteHappy Birthday to the little guy. My little man turned 6 on August 16th and he went into first grade this year. I debated keeping him back, but after several conversations at length with his teacher, I decided to send him on his way to first grade. He's only gone for 2 days, but I think he's gonna do just fine.
ReplyDeleteIf you feel like it will, chances are pretty great that he will. Seems we do know what's best when we observe and weigh our options. :)
DeleteAwww happy birthday! My oldest is now almost 9! wow it seems like just the other day she was 6! time sure does fly.
ReplyDeleteIt does, no doubt about it.
DeleteHappy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you much!
DeleteAww, happy birthday to your little guy!! I'd definitely make the same decision about kindergarten. There's no need to push them in my opinion. What's an extra year in school, if it will save them from feeling behind and younger than everyone in their class?
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest points that weighed in on our decision-making. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday to your son... also what a good decision to keep your son back, my oldest was 4 and the youngest... it took her awhile to catch up... she did fine later ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my blog lettersfromlaunna.blogspot.com
Thank you for your visit back. :)
DeleteHappy birthday to him! The extra year is bound to build his confidence!
ReplyDeleteI think it's just what the Dr. ordered. ;)
DeleteHappy Birthday to your little boy
ReplyDelete❤❤ ❤❤
Thank you, Winnie!
DeleteYou went to Texas Roadhouse! <3
ReplyDeleteSo glad he had such a great birthday. Those cheeks are too adorable! *hugs*
Thanks, Melissa. We don't head up that way much, it was a nice treat.
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday to your son. I am happy he had a great time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy. He sure likes telling people he's six now, lol. :)
Deletehappy sixth birthday to your beautiful son, rosey! he is so handsome! i love that you listened to your heart - and what a sweet friend to give your clarity - always wonderful to have support and understanding from others! i wish you and him all the best this coming school year. and may year six be an amazing one! xoxox
ReplyDeletemaria
Thanks for the well wishes, Maria! Six is a big deal you know, it means he's grown up now (or so he keeps telling me). ;)
DeleteHappy belated birthday to your son. Looks like he had a good one! We have a Texas Roadhouse where I live. It's been in business for a little over a year but I haven't been there yet to eat. I hear they are great with recognizing birthdays. My now 15 yoa son was held back when he was in Kindergarten. I fretted about it when it happened but I'm so glad now that I made that decision.
ReplyDeleteThe only downside is that he's now in the same grade as his 14 yoa brother and everyone assumes they're twins.
That could be fun (the twin thing). :)
DeleteThey really did do the birhtday up at the TX Roadhouse, it was awesome. :)
Looks like he had a great day. I'm so glad he got to celebrate his birthday with his classmates. :) Thank you for linking up on my hop. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting back. :)
DeleteThanks for sharing your birthday boy at our Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop. They grow up so fast. We are coming up on 2 years old and it has just flown by.
ReplyDeleteAngel
I agree, Angel it flies right by, so I'm making sure to enjoy it/him! He's already outgrowing so many things!
DeleteThey grow up so fast! I can't believe mine is about to be 3. I don't know where the time went.
ReplyDeleteI have one who's 25, and one who's 20. And I'm in total agreement with you. :)
DeleteSo handsome he looks so happy with the cupcakes :)
