Random Rambling

My little guy is sick. First week of school and he missed day #4 (Friday). Welcome back to the school year.

Any parent hates when their little one is miserable. My youngest is one to get up and play & be cheerful anyway, even if he is sick, but he did a LOT of sleeping this time. In fact, he's sleeping right now. His fever's gone though, and he was up and at 'em for a bit today, so he's going to be okay.

My bedtime routine has been the same for a very long time...On weekdays I go to sleep around 8:30-9'ish and get up at 3 or 3:30 in the morning. I thought it was just always going to be that way, but lately I've been staying up late and not getting up until 5:30-6. It makes it feel like I'm missing out on precious productive time, but I just cannot get to sleep early. I'm not a bit tired. I guess it's staying up late with my teen all summer that did me in.  Whether I go back to regular sleeping habits or not, I'll adjust.

My daughter opted out of band this year (GASP), and is enjoying her first year of high school without a rigorous schedule and practice time. I tried to talk her into staying (band gets exciting in high school & you get to take awesome field trips), but she's just not interested, so that's that... I'm encouraging her to find something else she likes. It's nice to be actively involved with things going on in your high school. It makes the experience more meaningful,  I think.

Little man's signed up for another season of soccer. He's asked two years in a row to be in Karate, so I guess we'll sign him for that, once soccer season wraps up in October.

Chillin' at the Park

School is definitely back in full swing, and so everyone is very busy. That doesn't mean we won't still take time out to play.  ;)

  1. One of the things I took when I was school age was modern dance, it really helped increase my self-confidence and helped me through that 'gawky' stage.

Poor little guy, hate it when little ones are sick!

  2. I am sorry to hear of your son already being sick so early in the school year. I hope he gets better soon. I go to bed early too and have to get up early, but I like it like that! You have a very busy schedule and I hope that you have a good Autumn.

  3. Isn't it awful how our children get sick... I feel so bad for them...

I do wish that when I was in high school that I got more involved in something, I think it would have made for better memories :)

  4. Hi Girlfriend as soon as I read this I have to come and check on Little Man...how is he doing? How is the fever..hope is nothing serious and just your typical back to school lots of kids around kind of virus! The same thing that is happening to your daughter happened to my teen. the minute he hit HS forget band! He used to play the sax just like me and I was very excited about it, then he did 2 years of track and then just devoted his time and worked at the sound department of his HS until he graduated. As long as they are busy doing something it's ok! please keep me posted on how boy is doing...girl I don't know how could you be up so early in the morning...perhaps because that is the time when I'm usually heading to bed, hahahahaha! School doesn't start here till 8:45 so no need for mama to be up so early! Big hug and lots of love for little man, Lizy

    1. The day just rolls by so fast for me if I miss that early morning time.

Little man's fine now, just a little bit of a stuffy nose. Dad's down and out for the count though...sleeping for the last couple of hours and totally feeling the flu. I was surprised because dad doesn't usually get it.

Thanks for swinging over to check on the baby. Can I still call him that??? OY, I'm gonna anyway. :)

  5. Your lil' man looks like I feel. I had a fever Thurs. night. Now I have very little voice and a cough that sounds like a smokers cough. Blah!!! I hope we both get better soon. Sometimes when it's allergy season I have trouble kicking colds.

I don't blame your daughter wanting to stop band in one way. They do have early practices. But it stinks in another. All that time is lost. No follow through.

She'll be ok w/or w/out band. She just used to like it so much I thought it was a given she'd carry it through high school. She's full of surprises these days...busy becoming her own young woman. :)

  9. I think I had a mild stroke when you said you get up around 3-3:30ish. I don't see those hours unless there's a sick child involved! And speaking of sick, we had great first week of school, then wee one got a throat infection and missed the entire second week. Yes, it's going to be fun getting back on schedule. :)

  11. I get up about 5, and that leaves me enough time to shower, dress, and maybe check blog for ten minutes. I should be exercising instead. I sleep by 10 pm...any later and I would feel awful the next morning. Dino goes to bed by 8:30 -9. so it gives me some time to blog and wind down. Perhaps I should get up earlier, but I know I just can't.

Oh boy I hate when Dino is sick too...just not himself and can't get much done because he SUPER clingy. It's always a struggle when he's sick durin the school year...who has to stay home with him, LOL

poor little guy, hope he feels better now.

    1. When I go back to work it will be a struggle for who stays home here too.

Hubby's job totally frowns on days off, especially if you're not sick and dying. ;) They once sent a truck to get him in a miserable snowstorm when he called off for bad weather. No joke. It still makes me laugh.

  12. Awww don't you hate that? Christopher is sniffing about something. I am just about to wake him up for church and see if he groans. He was well enough for football practice last evening so you know what that means... I am not sure if its allergies or not. I wouldn't have him going all the place if I thought he had a cold - and definitely not a fever. I hate to see them when they are so sick they can't or don't want to play. Hopefully he is out of the woods now.

  13. Awww he just looks miserable! Poor guy. Your bedtime schedule is a lot different from mine! I don't know how you used to get up at 3! I usually sleep from 10:30 or 11 to 6 or 6:30. Too bad your daughter dropped out of band. My husband is a band teacher so we are all about band! But I understand she has to do what she wants as well. Band does get fun in high school :)

  18. Poor little thing! I can't believe he got sick already! School kids sure are full of germs! Hope he's on the mend. And good for you for letting your daughter make her own decision. If she wants to get back in she will. It's better than forcing her and having to have an argument over it! Maybe she'll like drama or journalism or year book. There are so many choices :)

It's so sad when kids move on from their "thing". Allison opted not to do choir this year, Mariah has cut out swimming. Of course, they have other things to fill their time, but a change in routine always is a bit hard to adjust to for us parents too!

  32. Poor sweet baby. I hope he is feeling well now.

First week of school and my daughter brought home a cold too. 2nd week and I got it from her and then my son and etc.

That is an interesting sleep pattern. You'll probably go back to habit :)

Ahh yes I would encourage her to find another passion. As long as she is not too scheduled, then she should be doing something.

I wish my son could do karate too. He wants to, but his father would prefer if he does something else. Apparently he thinks they chant.

Welcome to the school swing right! :)

    1. I checked into the karate and it costs a small fortune. It's very close to the house though. Not sure if I'll search the next city over for better prices, or not. Still thinking.

Hope you're all better from the colds now. :) Kids are germy little buggers, aren't they? :) Good thing they're cute. ;)
