Good Things x2 (awards and shout-outs)

I know that bloggers are always doing nice things for one another. Whether it's adding a link on their Rafflecopter form, sending a gift, sending over a kind e-mail, or what-have-you.  I always appreciate these things for the reasons they are done (a kind heart).

Recently I received two bloggy awards, one from Lanaya at Raising Reagan, and one from Z at Kicking Kilos. Thank you ladies, for thinking of me, I think that's awesome.

Lanaya's award is the Squirrely Blogger Award, originated she said from Menopausal Mother (another super nice, and funny lady!) and I'm supposed to give 7 quirky facts about myself that you might not know.
  • I want a puppy or kitten, but I'm scared to get one because I don't want to board them when we travel places (well, hubby vetoes the puppy anyway)
  • If I won the Lotto (which I next to never play), I'd buy a house for part of the year in Europe
  • Florida was my favorite place in the world to live (lived there 18 years) but I don't think it'd be the same if I moved back.
  • Winter driving scares me. We're talking flat-out knuckle-gripping, hair-raising scared, & I despise it.
  • I was in law school for one semester (full schedule w/Contract Law being my most fave class). Hubby was overwhelmed and hated it, so I quit. He's doesn't get overwhelmed easily, and he has never asked me to quit anything. It should have been easy to quit, but I struggled with it and cried. It was something I really wanted and loved. I love hubby more. (I am revising this to add that quitting law school was the best decision I made because I wouldn't have little man if I hadn't, I'm sure of it. Funny how things work out like that, isn't it? :) ).
  • I wish all soccer games were at noon so we didn't freeze in the early mornings.
  • I cook meat daily for my family, but I am a vegetarian and have been since I was a little girl (always fighting with my mom not to eat meat). I just don't like it.
Z's award was The Sunshine Award.

For Z's award I was supposed to offer 10 things about myself. I have 7 above, so 3 more are:
  • I am 43 (ahahhahah, I said it out loud).
  • Hair not my natural color has started to creep into my head (I refuse to say the 'g' word).
  • I doubt that I'll ever dye my hair to remove the 'g' word. ;)  I'm a grandma, I've earned my old age. ;)
For both of the awards above you are supposed to nominate others and have them post the award, the facts, and then nominate a certain number of other people. Please feel free to participate by grabbing either of the awards and creating your own post, if so inclined. You can find the instructions for them on the links at Raising Reagan for the Squirrely Blogger Award, or at Kicking Kilos for the Sunshine Award.  Again, thank you to both Lanaya and Z for the shout-outs.

Thank you, Judy!! I love everything you sent!
I appreciate your thoughtfulness, and I appreciate you!!
I also recently received a very thoughtful gift package from Judy at Judy H-J's Thoughts, A Twinless Twin. I was literally blown away! What a sweet thing to do, and they are wonderful gifts that will always remind me of her when I see them. I have the one pictured above on display in our library, and I love it! There are many bloggers I'd like to meet, all over the world, and Judy is definitely one of them. Whether that happens or not, I still want to thank her from the bottom of my heart for being so kind. Thank you, Judy, a million and one times!!  You are a real sweetheart!

So, being very pleased with all of the  nice around me, I want to be nice too (good things like that are contagious, yes?). I thought a shout-out to some authors who are also bloggers, would be a nice thing to do. Writing a book is no easy feat, writing several, amazing. These folks deserve a little hurrah!

We all seem to run in the same circles a little bit, 'meeting and talking' to the same groups of people here and there, so a lot of you may already know these authors/bloggers. If you've heard of them and their books, hurrah!  And if not, I hope you'll swing over and have a look. They are not listed in order of preference (I like them all), but rather by last name, or blog name if I don't know their last name. I'm sure there are other blog authors I know that I have forgotten, and I hope they'll forgive me for a lack of mention. We have a soccer game coming up quickly, and grandma and grandpa are meeting us there, so I'm rushing around a bit, but I did want to get a blog post up for the day.

Authors
1. John DeBellis
2. Pat Hatt
3. Holy Ghost Writer
4. Kenya G. Johnson
5. Vashti Quiroz-Vega
6. Susan Flett Swiderski

John DeBellis, blogger at Another 920 Spot, authored Stand up Guys: A Generation of Laughs. This is a memoir of Mr. DeBellis' stand up days as a comedian. I have this on download, and haven't gotten to it yet, though I fully intend to sooner rather than later.

Pat Hatt, blogger at It's Rhyme Time, has authored MANY children's books and a few novels too. I have read a few of the children's books, and my favorite so far is The Swashbuckle Chuckle! Check out one of the links above to see the large selection available, hard copy and/or Kindle.

The Holy Ghost Writer, blogger at Holy Ghost Writer Books is shrouded in mystery and has a big international contest going on, with a large cash prize for the person who guesses his/her identity from clues found in his/her books. You can read more about that here. I have read The Sovereign Order of Monte Cristo, and being a sucker for all things Monte Cristo (I love that story!!), I was enthralled from page #1. He/she has many other books to choose from, and you can find those here (hard copy and/or Kindle).

Kenya G. Johnson, blogger at Here's the Thing, has authored The Christopher Chronicles. This is a story that depicts the funny things her son (and spitting image of her, I might add) said when he was five-years old. You can purchase her book in paperback or Kindle form here.

Vashti Quiroz-Vega, blogger at Vashti Quiroz-Vega's blog has authored The Basement. Both she and her blog are fairly new to me, but I have been reading what she puts up on the Sunday blog hop I help host, excerpts from her book, and I always enjoy her writing. I have her book on my To-Read list as well. You can get it in hard copy or digital format.

Susan Flett Swiderski, blogger at I Think; Therefore, I Yam, authored Hot Flashes & Cold Lemonade, also on available in hard copy or Kindle edition. I have not read this book yet (it's on my To-Read list), but after reading Susan's blog posts for awhile now, I cannot imagine it not being fantastic. Her posts are ones I often share with my friends or family.

my recent favorite books

And to conclude the post, Melissa Bo, who blogs over at readingnks: My Recent Favorite Books, is running a book review tour. You can swing on over to her site to see great book reviews, or you can contact her to get in on the action (she's looking for people to join in on her book review tour).

I hope you'll take the time to check out any of the above bloggers. They all have great things to offer. :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Congrats on the awards and I too received from Lanaya the Squirrely Award. I need to do a post on this at sometime in the future, too.

Hubby was going to go to law school too, but then he just quit. He was inches away from his masters degree and then just quit. He's never regretted it though.

Have a terrific day. :)

Pat Hatt said...

Thanks for the shout, being nice and less stressed will make less grey hair show, maybe hahaha I've got a bit of grey hair to and still 15 years younger than you haha a cat or dog at your sea, sure that would be fun. As long as there is a good boarding place they'll be fine, but then if a feline just need sometimes to come once a day and that is all it takes at your bay.

My Dear Rosey! Congratulations on your awards! Well deserved each one of them! I HATE driving in the snow...maybe because just like you Florida is one of my favorite places on earth, other than Hawaii and obviously back home in Panama! what do they have in common? The tropical weather that my hair hates, lol..but who cares the sun and beaches are all worth it! Big Hug! and congrats again...I will check all these authors you mentioned! Judy is a peach! I follow her blog and she is so so sweet! Lanaya is also super cool! Happy Saturday love! Carry on.... :)

So you do book promotions, too? Well I need to stick with you because I hope to have one of my books published one day.

Congrats on your lovely awards. May the bloggie gods smile upon you. I enjoyed the inner glimpse into your life but I always feel like a peeper when I read it.

Good job on the promotions for the bloggie friends. They are all deserving and talented.
Have a perfect week end

Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!

You're not allowed to be "old", if I am going to be your age in 3 months! ;-) I was delighted at the vegetarian part because I didn't know that about you and it was a cool surprise. I was a vegetarian from age 7 to 17ish. In my freshman year of college I got tired of eating PB&J and cheese sandwiches and first ventured out with tuna fish. Then started eating chicken again. When I met my husband he turned me on to the world of seafood. But I never ate pork or beef again. Thanks a million for the book shot out! ;-) Looking forward to mailing the giveaways next week.

I think that this post is great. Anytime that bloggers can support each other, it is a great thing for all of us as a collective.

Congrats on the awards! And I'm 28 and have found a few silver strands already. Lol

I can't think of any nicer gal to get this or nicer gift to receive. Congrats.

It's awesome receiving awards. You get to learn new things about that blogger that you won't generally know and you get to meet some other great ones as well. Congrats!

Whooo Hooooo... congratulations on the awards. You deserve them.

We decided awhile ago not to get any animals because we travel so much. I am happy not to have them since they make such a mess and it would be me cleaning it up.

Its really nice that they recognized you! Awesome job on the awards

Judy Haughton-James said...

Thank you so much Rosey! I have just come online and this has certainly brightened my night over here in Jamaica. I was really happy to send you those gifts. I appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness so much. I am really glad that we met through blogging. It is certainly amazing how we meet so many wonderful persons through blogging and become good friends although we have never met each other. I found the facts about you to be very interesting. Heartiest Congratulations on your awards. Truly deserved. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Binky said...

Congratulations on the awards, Rosey.

Justin Knight said...

Awesome job on the awards! Well deserved! Just out of curiosity, why did your husband dropping out of law school mean that you had to do the same? Seems a shame when you were into it so much! :)

alissa apel said...

Woo Hoo you are popular with the awards!

I loved living in Georgia, which is near Florida. I loved it, but my allergies did not. I don't think they are great in Nebraska either, but family is here.

I'm with you on the games. We don't have to worry about that one. I can just imagine. If they were at lunch time, food in a cooler could come with.

I'm 37, have grey hair and do not dye it. I think it annoys my mom that I don't. Oh wells.

Ai Sakura said...

Congrats on getting the awards! I'm always blown away by the friendly bloggers I meet online and you are definitely one of those I'd love to meet if possible. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :)

i plan to grey naturally. i'm 33, no greys yet. i did dye my hair earlier this year (for a TV promo) but otherwise it had been 5 years. Plan to not dye anymore either.

Colette S said...

Congrats on your awards Rosey.

I wanted a dog too, but dh does not like dogs. He grew up with cats, so I went along with cat.
The neighbor just gave us two kittens. I'm potty training and those fun things.
I'm also worried about boarding and travel, but maybe not so much travel anymore since our budget has vanished.

I hope you get one. They seem fun and cute right now. ew on the stinky potty.

Why does winter scare you?
I don't like it much, but then I live in LA :)

You have such a kind heart.

Maybe a time will present itself for you to continue with that which you love also.

Rosey I'm "29" and I'm grey . haha.

Will dye.

Judy makes me miss home.
What a precious gift!

Thanks for sharing the authors. Some are familiar!
I love finding new kids books too!

Happy Sunday! :)

Nicole Adkisson said...

Congratulations on your awards! I think it's great when we can all work together and bring one another up rather than tearing one another down.

Masshole Mommy said...

Funny you said that about a dog because that is the EXACT same reason we're not getting one - not that my boys are happy about it. They want a puppy in the worst way, but I don't think it's fair to the pup to have to board it for that much time during the year.

mail4rosey said...

Did she call us both squirrely? ;) Happy to be in good company. :)

mail4rosey said...

Long as he never regretted it, must have been the right decision. :)

Terrific day to you too!

mail4rosey said...

Pretty sure a kitten would delight the kids!! We've been tossing the idea around a bit now, it could totally happen. :)

mail4rosey said...

I wouldn't mind winter if the roads were always free of ice and snow. I really just hate driving on either, and you always slip or lose traction at some point. I spun out once on black ice (first time I drove on it when I got here). I think that's what did me in.

Happy rest of the weekend to you!

mail4rosey said...

Any time.

mail4rosey said...

Without a doubt I'd be on board for blogging about it. I have no doubt you'll be published.

mail4rosey said...

TMI? :) I rarely do them, but this week I thought I would.

The authors all do have a great talent! Thanks for visiting, Manzanita. :)

mail4rosey said...

I think so too. :) Thanks for visiting, Launna.

mail4rosey said...

You are sweet. And I saw your awesome yeast rolls featured today. Those are so pretty to look at!!!

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, it was fun. And fabulous weekend to you too!

mail4rosey said...

I do remember reading you grew up vegetarian. :)

My family doesn't think a meal is a meal w/o meat, and if the little one tries it, they glare at ME, lolol

Okay, we're not old. But somebody better tell the grays. ;) Who gets gray hair when they FEEL so young, sheesh. :)

Have a great Sunday, Kenya!

mail4rosey said...

I like the supportive foundation of blogging too!! Thanks for visiting. :)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Tiffany. Happy Sunday to you. :)

JellyRose said...

Ooo, more blogs to read! :-D I feel like a stalker now, lol xxx

mail4rosey said...

Cuz you're 100% sweet. :) Thanks for the visit and the nice words, Sandie!! I always like when you come over here. :)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, and I agree, I like learning more about the people behind the writing.

And oh my gosh, your reviews recently (probably always, but I'm kind of a newbie visitor!) are so fantastic!! In fact, I'm headed over to Tweet now. Have a great Sunday.

mail4rosey said...

I'll look in the mirror and see a silver glint and think what was that?? Ohh, never mind, I know. ;)

mail4rosey said...

The messes I think I could deal with (I still have kids in the house). The travel...we come and go quite a bit, esp. in the summer. Even mini-trips would make me worried. I think because our fish almost died on our last big trip. silly, but true. We love our Fishy Fish. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Thank you, Karen. :)

mail4rosey said...

I'm happy you saw this post, Judy! I LOVE my gifts!! Many, many thank you's!!

mail4rosey said...

Thanks. :) I'm headed over to see your wombats!

mail4rosey said...

He wasn't enrolled, just me. The extensive schedule and then constant study time was difficult on him. BUT we very likely would not have our youngest child if I'd have stayed in law school and he is WAY WAY WAY better than any career goal I ever had. :)

Thank you for visiting.

mail4rosey said...

My husband says I'm going to dye mine, he's willing to wager on it, but I'm pretty sure I won't. ;)

I've been in Georgia. Not Savannah though, which I hear is fabulous.

mail4rosey said...

Ditto that!!! And a great weekend finale to you too!

mail4rosey said...

I'm not big on hair dye. My daughter, on the other hand, always wants a new hair color. Thank goodness for hair chalk!

mail4rosey said...

Winter driving scares me. The roads are slippery and I've never gotten used to it. I spun out once when I first got here, on black ice. I guess it made me chronically nervous about winter driving.

You'll have to let me know when you find the best kitty litter!! I bet it's fun having two cats with the two children!! They play together fun too, kittens do, when they're little. :)

We had the little one when I quit law school. He's way better than contract law. I have zero regrets. It was just hard at the time. :)

Judy is a gem. :)

I love books too, and I read children's books sometimes just because!! :)

Happy Sunday to you too!

mail4rosey said...

Agreed!! Thank you for the visit. :)

mail4rosey said...

I know, I keep picturing a sad pet face at the kennel/boarding place!

mail4rosey said...

That kind of stalking is okay. :) Thanks for the visit!

Great to hear about all of the bloggers supporting each other. Lots of things in this post to digest but I loved reading and getting to know you better. What part of Europe would you buy a house in?

mail4rosey said...

Probably right in Prague. Easy to get everywhere else in Europe, and I'd be in a city that everyone in the family loves. :) Thank you for stopping over!

Melinda Dunne said...

Congratulations on the awards. I would like to live in Europe as well. I lived in Germany for 3 years and miss it terribly. It is interesting how giving up one dream often leads us to a better, more fulfilling one.

Theresa said...

What a sweet gift from Judy! She is one of my favorite bloggers too :)

I also wanted to thank you for your help with my email question the other day. With that info and my hubby taking over, I finally have everything worked out. YAY!

mail4rosey said...

Agreed on the last part. And I bet Germany was a great place to live. My husband has a cousin who lived there years ago and she said nothing but good things about it.

mail4rosey said...

Congrats, and I dunno how much help that was, but you helped me, lol. That's going to save me a ton of time trying to find out who my Registrar is come tax time. :)

It is funny. I know the originator's blog, and she loves squirrels, so we'll leave it at that, and not wonder why Lanaya thought of me when the word 'squirrely' was mentioned. ;)

WHEW! That was quite a post, you're a super star! I know and love pretty much every blog you mentioned but haven't gotten around to visiting lately because between actually writing the posts, school (kids) and working out I can't find time to blog hop. I stick to about a dozen of my favorite blogs (you) and try to hop when I have free time.
