Worth the Wait

This morning we left at 6:30 to go see the balloons. It didn't say cancelled online today, so we thought we were in luck.

You can see the sky in the background was dark and the clouds were low, so they sent a ball up to test the weather. It came back negative.

They decided instead, since a good number of people did show, to blow all of the balloons up and leave them tethered. It was fun to watch them inflate.

One of the balloons did go up, though I'm not sure why, even the MC sounded surprised when she announced that it was in the air (a rebel amongst us, perhaps???  Or maybe not, who knows. :) ).

It was great to get to see the balloons so up close and personal.

Sparty was there, representin', and he was looking good, as usual. ;)

There were quite a few balloons, and it would have been spectacular to see them all taking off, but this was different, and peaceful, and nice.

Hubby's off work today and was supposed to go with us, but when we tried to wake him up, it was clear he was no longer interested in our early morning adventure. Same scenario in the teen's room. So it ended up being me and little man. He loved every single thing about the balloons, but when he wanted to watch he sat way back here. I asked him why so far and he said he was scared of the fire (that keeps the balloons up). ;)

The balloons weren't up too long at all before they started taking them down again. It wasn't what we went to see, but it was just as good, in a different way, and I'm glad we stuck around for a bit.  We'll head back later today probably, to see the car show and the fair (if we can ever get the rest of the family out of bed). ;)  It's going to be hot today, but that's okay... it just means summer's here, and for that I say a big woohooo!

How amazing. I soooo wish we had something like that around here.

Smart to stay far away from the fire haha must be awesome to see. And at least he'll never play with fire and pee the bed lol

You made big points with the little man. I'm just saying.

Have fun this afternoon. Sounds like a good time indeed. :)

It was kind of like seeing a little bit of a painting taking place in front of you. At least you had some great quality time with the little guy! My hubby does that to me a lot! LOL!

That's so cool! Too bad they didn't go up, but it must've been neat to get close. They're so colorful.

Balloons are so colorful when there are a lot of them in the air. Too bad they didn't go but as you said, it must have been fun watch them get ready.

Wow that was pretty cool to see. My kids would have loved just that. You got some great shots.

Wow what a cool experience! I've never seen a hot air balloon in person.

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

Oh wow it was gorgeous! I need to get the boys to one of these.

That's great that they still inflated the balloons for the crowd! We went to a show like that years ago, and I loved it.

I've never seen hot air balloons up close, so this looks like SO much fun!!! Even if the balloons didn't go up, except the rebel. Hope you enjoy the rest of the day too. =0)

He did love it and it was so nice to have that one on one with him. :)

mail4rosey said...

We did have great QT and my hubby does that to me a lot too. ;)

mail4rosey said...

They were colorful, it was pretty to see.

mail4rosey said...

Happy weekend to you too. :)

mail4rosey said...

So I've been told. ;) They were a nice sight. :)

mail4rosey said...

I was glad they put them up, that was fun to watch.

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, it was a nice morning. :)

mail4rosey said...

Not sure if they'll fly here this year, they're 0 for 3 right now. ;)

mail4rosey said...

I like to watch them. I don't think I'd fly in one now, I would have years ago.

mail4rosey said...

I like to see these as much as the kiddos. :)

mail4rosey said...

I was glad they inflated too. :)

mail4rosey said...

It was fun, and I do suspect that one was a rebel. ;)

Janine Huldie said...

I am sorry you guys didn't get to see them actually go up, but must admit that it looked cool to be able to go up and close on this and actually be so close to them!! :)

Irish Italian Blessings said...

Very cool! I've always wanted to do this, they have them in Reno each year which is closest to us and one year we'll actually go!

Man I am extremely jealous. I want to go to one of these. and also a sailboat race. both to watch and just take pics. awesome pics. :D

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

They're gorgeous, but it's too bad they had to stay tethered. I think I figured out howcum the Remax balloon took off. They misunsderstood when they heard somebody mention "building castle in the sky" and they wanted to have first shot at listing them. (Sorry. That was pretty bad.)

Theresa said...

They really are a sight to see up close, aren't they? Too bad they didn't get to go up, but still fun nonetheless!

Betty Luckhurst said...

I think they are so beautiful, but you'd be hard pressed to get me up in one!

Hi Rosy .. it sounds ideal for the little guy - I bet he was mesmerised with the colours, and balls of air .. aren't they glorious - bet his mind was wandering too imagining all sorts .. what fun - lovely to see.

In some ways bet it was just wonderful to be together for a special day ..

Next time - they'll go up .. cheers Hilary

Dana said...

What beautiful colors! I'm glad you got to see them blown up, even though they weren't in the air. :) Happy Sunday.

RACHEL TaoOfPoop said...

The pictures are just incredible! I can only imagine what it must have been like to be there.

Kristi Maloney said...

Wow! What a great thing to be able to see. They are beautiful. So, would you go for a ride? Not sure I would - afraid of heights!

Lana said...

I'm from St. Louis, and every year they do a balloon glow the night before the balloon race. Somehow I have managed to miss it every single year and this post just makes me realize how much I long to see it. I think hot air balloons are so amazing. In fact, I once dated a guy whose neighbor had one! I kept trying to get him to take me up, but I think he thought I was joking! :)
Thanks for stopping by Monday's Nugget!

This morning I took hubby to the golf course and the balloons were all over the sky. We weren't even looking for them today. It was very cool. :)

Oh my gosh Rosey... GREAT pictures you got. Bet the little guy was amazed.

mail4rosey said...

I think Reno would be as fun as the balloons. :)

mail4rosey said...

There were some really gorgeous colors!

Mel@Mellywood's Mansion said...

Even if it wasn't what you meant to see it was still amazing, lovely shots!

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Alissa. I saw them flying this morning (not even on purpose). Very cool. :)

Momma Lew said...

That is SO amazing! They have a ballooning fest here but it is pretty expensive.

mail4rosey said...

Saw 'em this morning, right over our house and driving along the road (very unusual treat!)

Veronica Lee said...

Lovely shots of the balloons, Rosey! My sons would have been so thrilled to see those colorful balloons!

mail4rosey said...

They do have a little magic in them, don't they? :)

mail4rosey said...

'twas fun, Sandie. :) It marks mid-summer though, and I'm not a fan of that...seems like summer's flying by way way way way way too fast. Way. ;)

mail4rosey said...

The car show was nice, the little one loved the fair (his sister and I enjoyed his joy, lol). :)

mail4rosey said...

You have a great weekend too, Cindy. Thanks for stopping over.

mail4rosey said...

We saw 'em flying this morn. (well hubby and I did anyway). Very nice!

mail4rosey said...

That's awesome that you went up. My daughter and were wondering if the baskets were roomier than they look...because they sure look tiny. :)

mail4rosey said...

It was fun. Thanks for hosting the hop!

mail4rosey said...

lol, Remax gettin' the jump!

mail4rosey said...

The flew today. :)

We were there last night but missed the flight, and then saw it today on accident (well hubby and I did).

mail4rosey said...

I'd have done it once upon a time. I'm getting a little more reserved in my older age. ;)

mail4rosey said...

They always make me happy when I see them. They're just all-around cool.

Lynn said...

These pics are wonderful! I'd love to see this, too!

mail4rosey said...

You're right they did go up the next time around.

I like to see them and I'm grown, it's even better I'm sure, when you're not (grown). :) Thanks for visiting.

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Dana. I like that there are so many of them. Just one would be cool, but that many is ubercool. :)

mail4rosey said...

They come every year and it never gets old. :)

mail4rosey said...

I'm not scared of heights, but I am getting a little more cautious with old age. I am going to say no I wouldn't do it (but I do still have a good dose of dare in me, so who knows). :)

mail4rosey said...

A balloon race sounds fun. They've done a scavenger hunt here before, putting an items up high and the first balloon to get it won something, but not an out and out race. :)

mail4rosey said...

How cool would it be to see these going over NYC???? I love just the thought of it!

mail4rosey said...

It was an instant hit as soon as the first one started going up. :)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Mel. I like the balloons. :)

mail4rosey said...

I guess we're double lucky because they don't charge anything here (knock on wood that continues).

mail4rosey said...

I bet it's an awesome experience to be in one. For me, it's awesome to watch. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Lynn. It's fun that they come to town once a year. :)

When I lived in Upstate NY I used to go to the balloon festival every year. One of those years my friend proposed to his girlfriend in flight. It was awesome.

Wow! So Beautiful!! I love hot air balloons and think it would be neat to go up in one someday...I'll have to make it there to see them too! I've always heard about it :-)

Even though it's not colorful, Sparty is my favorite! Neat to see he was there :-)

mail4rosey said...

Sparty rocks. :) I bet your little one's would like it. It's free, but if you go to the afternoon launch it is surrounded by things that are not (free). ;) There's a fair, car show, laser show, animal petting area, pony rides, etc. It's a fun way to spend the day and the balloons make it unique.

They also have live music. We got to see the Pistons Drum Line play when we went and that was aaaaaaaawesome. :)
